how do you get food for that people out at the same time and keep it hot? Lots and lots of crockpots. Our family has lot of these things. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing...all in roasters.

I don't know about OP, but I don't think we have any cooked veggies at Thanksgiving but corn. Lots of raw though.

I set the table the night before (except for the flowers, which stay in the fridge). I use two coolers for drinks (we seem to use a lot of ice, so I do buy two bags; one to keep things chilled and one for beverage use). I cook most everything in those E-Z foil pans, so food stays hot and I can toss the pans when we are done. I set up a schedule to cook and chill/freeze the week before. We will have about 10 for dinner, so it's not a big crowd. I do have a four-mile race that morning, so I won't get home until 9 a.m. or so. (The race is in my town, so not a big drive).
The menu: Appetizers: shrimp and cocktail sauce; chopped liver and crackers, cheese assortment and cut-up veggies. This is a tradition for us; it never changes.
Dinner: Turkey Baked sweet potatoes (I will offer a choice of a butter/brown sugar/cinnamon topping and a honey/cinnamon topping for my niece) Potato pancakes and applesauce (another tradition, since Hanukkah comes up next) Green bean casserole (thanks to MPL for the reminder!) Cranberry sauce, and compote (most family likes the canned stuff; I like the real thing) Stuffing (white, whole wheat, challah mixed with sauteed apple, onion and celery) Rolls (everyone but me seems to like extra bread) Green salad (I like it as a leftover) Baked ziti (yes, another family tradition; mom and dad got this one from Italian friends.) Desserts: pumpkin and apple pies (I found a vegan pie crust recipe, so my niece can enjoy the pies).

I like my veggies plain or with a little butter - marshmallows are gross (they're made with gelatin) and maple syrup and brown sugar are for desserts.

Yeah, we have carrots too. Just raw. Plus broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, red and yellow bells... Easier to serve veggie trays to large groups, plus I think cooked vegetables are gross.

I second the use paper products and do a buffet. I also agree with labeling the serving dishes - I do that for my holiday party that I throw (one thing I tend to forget is a bowl/plate for crackers/bread/etc. for dips). stock up on ice the day before. 2 liter bottles of soda are most cost effective - you won't find 2/3 full cans sitting around.

My inlaws will bring broccoli with lemon and garlic, but even though that's cooked it is served cold. Lots of raw veggies for us as well as salad.

I'll do plastic plates if I have to, but would really prefer to have the real deal. Kind of a silly right of passage I guess, but I can't seem to get over it.

There will be so much on their plates there won't be room for mushy green things...unless it's a salad or pistachio pudding.

Over the years my aunt collected pieces of the same pattern Corellware. Whenever we'd see them at a garage sale or thrift store we'd pick them up. She's been hosting the Thanksgiving dinner for 40 years now and has more than enough to serve 40+ people without having to eat in shifts and wash between.

Between what I inherited and a few settings from my mom I do, but I want plain white correlle dishes for myself and plan to do what MPL listed. The kids will have paper/plastic so that takes us down to 25 total. And that is still assuming everyone comes. I'm sure we'll have some fallout, or some just come for dessert.

I use a combination of three sets: mine, my mother's and my grandmother's. Mom and grandma have passed away, so the dinnerware selection is our way of remembering them. They always came over for Thanksgiving. Grandma did the hideous sweet potato marshmallow casserole. We all hated it, but we ate it to make her happy. I now own that casserole dish, and yes, I use it. It's fragile though, at over 60 years old, so I don't put it in the dishwasher or high oven heat. I do use small paper plates and paper napkins for the appetizers, but everything else is crystal, china and silverware.

I like to use real plates, too. I'll 'fess up to having purchased china (noritake) a bit at time over a handful of years to accomodate 24 place settings. I have 3 or maybe 4 different 'patterns' that coordinate. I even sprang for some serving peices. I use fancy flatware (the actual silver ware is a pain in the butt to clean) that I purchased. I did buy 8 waterford wine glasses and 8 waterford water glasses - but I just can bring myself to use them. My family is a "glass clinker" family ::shudder:: and I can't bear the thought of chipping the Waterford. I've got a plethora of old time (40's and 50's era) fun Libby glassware (with safety rims!) that I collected up via garage/estate/ebay/resale stores that they can clink to their hearts content with. The rest of the serving dishes are 'nostolgia' peices from my mom's kitchen - so bits and peices of 'free' or 'dime store' or 'grocery store' give away peices. FWIW: there's a commercial for a dish washing soap that shows a hostess pulling out all the old plates and glasses (usually novelty things from vacations or tourist traps) along with her 'good china' to accomodate all the guests for Thanksgiving dinner. I have to laugh at that. I'm not using novelty dishes/glasses (even though I own some -- not sure all the ones shown in the commericial are even safe to eat off of!!) but the various tables I'm setting definitely are unique.

I really like Tiny's idea of collecting odd bits and pieces of dish and glassware at estate sales and antique shops. It makes for a conversation-piece of a dinner table! Plus, less worry about breakage. Heck, I always drive by garage sales; now I just might stop at some!
If possible, get the manufacturer and the year the piece was made, or at least the approximate time frame, so you can research possible lead content and to see if the pieces are dishwasher safe. Aside from that, I'd just have fun with the idea.

I did that last year. You still have to cook everything. the ones I've seen come fully cooked and you just heat it up. Yes, but the turkey had to be heated for low for about two-and-a-half hours, the dressing cooked, etc. That is a time saver but not as much as you think. I had to start cooking about 9 for lunch at 1.

Boat loads of potatoes, but I don't count them as a vegetable. I put them in the same category as stuffing and rolls. There's probably a green bean casserole, but that's something someone else brings as a side, not that we provide.

For large quantities that can be a big deal though. For serving under 10 maybe, but if you have 15 pounds of mashed potatoes to heat up? That's a lot to nuke.

I know you mentioned deep cleaning, but will you decorate?week or so. Who the heck deep cleans BEFORE 30 pepole run through the house? You'd just have to do it all over again after they leave. Just make it look decent and deep clean after the holidays! Minimize work as much as you can get away with and relieve your stress level. Anyone who doesn't like that approach can just come and do the work themselves!
