Haha, we only had 12 kids, too! Lots of left overs here, not sure why? We in the past had so many more, are new parents not taking kids trick or treating? What they're doing here is a lot of the sanctioned events. Trunk or Treating was put on by a lot of area businesses in a parking lot where kids went from car to car and got candy. I drove by it before we went out and there was no freaking way I was going to do it. The line was huge and it was cold. So you're just standing there waiting for what was probably an hour at least. I'd rather be out walking from house to house and seeing all the decorating they did. They had another thing at one of the colleges where the kids went from dorm room to dorm room and there were other activities as well. We did it last year....again...huge line and wait. I don't know why this is considered the new better way to do this? It seems to suck to me! Lots of paranoid parents out there these days. I've done the one at our zoo & that is fun. The trunk or treat & the mall ones sucked, so I'm not sure why so many people do those.
In our city, I swear half the town goes to one street. I can either trick or treat in my neighborhood where I'm lucky if 1/3 of the houses have their lights on & there are almost no people out. Or I can go to this one street where 95% have their lights on & it is like a huge event for the neighborhood. A lot go all out decorating - two houses this year had projectors set up with scary movies playing, many had fog machines, lights, spiders (like an 8 foot spider on the roof or something), and then most dress up to hand out candy & just sit on their porch because you don't get a break do bother to go inside & wait for the doorbell. One guy was out on the sidewalk passing out coffee to the adults. I know that many of those houses spend several hundred dollars on candy each year. So maybe a lot more cities have little areas like this where most go to trick or treat leaving the other neighborhoods empty.

We weren't home. The state high school sports association decided, in its infinite wisdom, that there should be playoff high school football games on Halloween night. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/rolleyes.gif) So, I decorated the lantern at the end of the walkway and put out a large bowl of full-size bars. It was empty when I got home. One person -- or several -- got lucky at our house. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

I don't remember any of the candy i got when I was a kid, I don't think getting store bought candy has been a special treat for about 50 years now. I remember the costumes, hunted houses and people.
