I increase my vitamin D3 and that seems to ward off the worst of it.

Sorry Sugi, I can be affected. I'm hoping that's not what has derailed me recently.
I keep bright lights in my place and think good thoughts. Going out every morning for 15 minutes in the sun can be helpful too.

I have a co-worker who has this. He says a lot of things at work are really getting to him right now. He is of an age to retire and he has plenty of $$ so I kind of forget that SAD could adversely color his decision making.

My big water oaks still have green leaves, so I'm okay so far. I do suffer from SADS when everything goes dead and brown, though. I'm glad I live where I do so there are only a few months of it.

I have been effected pretty horribly in the past... And still get a touch now and then. I have a Sun therapy lamp that I use most days at work, I take vitamin D daily and make sure that I get in regular workouts. These have helped me a lot. I also take a trip to Texas in December to visit family and soak up as much Sun as I can if it is out. We'be also been going to the Caribbean in February for the last couple of years... I get enough vitamin D there to help me survive March, which I HATE!

I would love to go South from December 29 to March 21 every year, that would be awesome.

I've posted a few times over the 4 yrs I've been here about my S.A.D.
It's very debilitating. The winters for me get worse every year. Last winter was brutal for me, since we also had terrible weather, blizzards and anything else that can be dumped on top of the condition. Plus my body hurts more than in the previous few years, due to a permanent injury to my legs. The cold, frigid temps & snow during winter make my navigation all the more troublesome.
At least I live in a location where we get occasional breaks from the nastiness with warm Chinook winds once in a while in the winter - but the darkness and cold are depressing. The short daylight hours are already playing on my mood.
I've been praying that we manage to have a relatively mild winter this year so I can come out the other end of the dark tunnel in the spring.

I've had trouble with SAD too. I've done best when we've had bad snow storms and felt I HAD to get out and shovel some snow. Even if I could only do a little bit, I felt better later after being outside on very sunny days.

I think I get it but I don't really get sad just lazy. It came early this year.

The short daylight hours are already dragging me down. This latest weather forecast has really thrown my into a funk.
Give me strength to make it through til March. It's bound to get worse before it gets better as far as weather and bleakness. I'm already dragging my gimpy legs dreading what's ahead in the next 3 months.

I turn on a lot of lights when it gets dark. That helps me a lot.

Today was the first sunshiny day in at least 10 days, maybe 2 wks. It's been awful and was so nice to see the sun today. It was pretty warm too so got in a long walk and soaked up some vitamin D.

I'm feeling better because I know the days are gradually getting longer. We're past Dec. 21st, so more daylight is on the way!

How you tell if this is going on. So much more energy in the summer with more sun and longer days. Fall, Winter, Spring dark and dreary and I am so tired I don't want to do much.

If the feelings of tiredness and general malaise are severe enough to cause problems in your daily life, it's S.A.D. It can be treated. There are products, like lights, that can be used to help with the problem. In some cases, medications are necessary to help control the symptoms.
