I think a lot of us have looked at our spending and thought: What can I cut? Or looked at it and thought, if I took a pay cut, what would I cut then? I think many of us are aware of "lifestyle creep" and how our spending will expand to use up our funds each month, one way or another, through transferring to savings or actual spending. I was pondering this when I looked at my most recent CCs statement. My AmEx was $1316.86 and, when I assess it, I see about $420 that would be "easy" cuts--Starbucks, Fabletics, the snacks at the airports, Cracker Barrel. $320 is groceries $166 is medical $220 is utilities $416.32 is made up of the things mentioned above. My Visa for similar timeframe, out of $816.07... $463 is for gifts $84 is groceries $37 is gas for the car $144 is personal care $70 is misc The funny thing is that I spend roughly the same amount, in total, each month, just on different things. It's interesting what becomes *necessary* to us when we can afford them. Both these CC balances have been paid off and new expenditures are in their place for this billing period.

Update! this month has brought a little bit of upheaval for my table, but it's not a bad thing. lol...and, I still moved in the right direction on this bad debt! I opted to use a BT offer to consolidate the pair of Discover cards onto one Citi for an almost 0% interest rate through all of 2022. this will allow me to keep a little more cash on hand for the house projects that are still ongoing. I've got them on my American Express for tracking/consumer protection, but they are not being raced. at this point, my "snowball" is paying down the capital projects, and when I'm done with that, it will go back to the next highest interest rate. the "snowball" is about $2k/month. yesterday, I paid the deposit on the driveway paving, for $4200. oh, and the realtor for the reappraisal came by this morning, he said the mortgage company will have his report by early next week. fingers crossed that PMI will be going away soon! creditor | start | previous | today | 1st National | $24,168.63 | $17,871.60 | $17,561.40 | BofA #1 | $11,813.71 | $13,688.98 | $13,538.98 | Citi #1 | $12,826.10 | $0 | $10,000.00 | Citi #2 | $4,394.29 | $0

Fabulous job chiver78 ! You're down to just 3 cards (plus the AmEx for the house projects), and heading towards under 40K! When's your next bonus?

When's your next bonus? lol!! next windfall is if I get anything back in the spring for tax season. we are still playing with my withholdings at this job with the salary and bonuses what they are. bonuses hit in late June/early July. I will definitely be done paying off big house projects by then, and back to snowballing the remaining CC balance.👍

At work, we're really close to hiring an assistant to me. This is going to be really good because there is so much I'm not doing, that is far backburner stuff, due to me getting what *needs* to be done, done but, if I don't get that other stuff done, it may bite us in the ass. We may need paperwork that should have been scanned but is sitting in the stack of "To Be Scanned" paperwork. Plus, the database cleanup. Plus, preparing different files that could be opportunities for additional business. Stuff that I just never get to. And I almost never have a slow moment at work. I also feel like I'll be able to get even more done because the weight of knowing all the things that I'm not doing will no longer be there. Getting more productive is definitely a goal for me. It will help me get back to the salary that I was at without having to work the extra days.

EF = $191,906.50 Finally I have a few minutes to post my numbers for the beginning of the month. The zero interest rate ended for CC#1 last month. I have a balance transfer request in for much of that balance. CC#8 will be paid off this month, since the zero interest rate expires this month, and it is a situation where all accrued interest will be charged if it is not paid in full by the end of the grace period. CC#4 will probably be paid off by the end of the year. -movinonup

I expect a good month before they're fully up and running with few to no questions about how to do the specific tasks they'll be doing.

USAA just sent an email that they have auto loan rates as low as .49%, both used and new. I went ahead and applied to see what the rate would be. 1.99% for 63 months is a payment of $326 (and that was me thinking I owed $18,660 not $18,230 that I actually owe). My current loan was for 70 months in Nov 2018 so I have 34 months left come next month. I have until Dec 4th to decide if I want to take the new loan.
I'm not intending to take 63 months to pay it off. I DO intend to take the extra that I was paying to the vehicle (I was transferring $500 every month for a $409 payment) and put it towards the rain gutters.
I currently pay $600/mo to the rain gutter bill. The balance is $5919.
I'd also like to wean myself off using the CCs except for large multi-$1000 purchases and various auto-pays or things where they just don't take cash. Yeah, there are reward points but $1 for every $100 spent just doesn't seem like much especially if many purchases are larger due to them being on the CC (as the general rule of spending says happens). It's difficult to make the transition when I'd need to take money out to cover my upcoming monthly expenses when I need to pay for the ones already bought but I think I could forgo one of my savings xfers on Nov 1st, take that out as cash and still pay off the CC.

Kind of a slow month. We did get a new stove and microwave yesterday. It is 0% finance for 18 months. Our old stove had a huge flame coming out of one of the burners and was not safe to use. Also we paid to have a plumber come out and fix our outside facets before winter. There is always something when you own a home.
Hope everyone is enjoying their fall. We have leaves everywhere, and only 3 trees on our lot!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Shoutouts! movinonup - Nice progress this month! I may have missed this in a previous update, but why did your mortgage jump by so much? And do you want to restart your race? Minnesotagirl7 Thanks! My mortgage was refinanced because I'm getting close to the end of my renovation and need to pay my contractor whenever I get my CO. That will happen sometime my punch list is complete. I don't need to restart my race unless that works for you. -movinonup

My first payment isn't due until December 2nd. Very good news!

posting a little early this month, since I leave on Tuesday. continued turtling progress for the balances being raced, and paying down the house projects a lot more aggressively. I'm also going to be unlocking that Chase card to use while I'm on vacation, since the perks are better for travel than any other non-racing card. it's one I'm considering keeping after the dust settles, so this is a good test run. it will be paid off in full after the cruise charges post. in other news, I've unofficially gotten the news that the realtor appraisal came back at $495k, which is *just* barely over the magic number to be 80% LTV. I asked on that call to Chase (mtg) if there was anything time-sensitive that I'd need to sign over the next two weeks in order to proceed with whatever has to happen, and got told no. I'll still check in on "turnaround day" between the two cruise itineraries just to be sure. but as long as this is valid, I'll be getting back $225/mo from no more PMI that I'll be able to throw at debt paydown. woo! ETA: wait, I forgot - I apparently hit the limit for social security tax this past week. my last paycheck was $100 more than usual, so I went digging around a bit. SS deduction is usually a hair under $300/paycheck for me, so that's another $600/month toward paydown. again, currently aimed at house projects. *that* balance is inducing agita, but it is well under control. creditor | start | previous | today | 1st National | $24,168.63 | $17,561.40 | $17,238.97 | BofA #1 | $11,813.71 | $13,538.98 | $13,388.98 | Citi #1 | $12,826.10 | $10,000 | $9,857.99 | Citi #2 | $4,394.29 | $0

I know how you feel about the extra money chiver78 I will receive my first Social Security check on November 17. The gross is $235. Medicare Part B will be deducted from it and I get $91 per month. However, I no longer have to pay the Medicare Part B premiums out of my pocket every quarter. I still am surprised qualified for $235 of Social Security.

I submitted paperwork to an insurance broker to see if I can better/less expensive coverage than USAA on both home and auto. I pay nearly $900/yr for auto and nearly $1100/yr for home so we'll see.

EF = $154,953.04 I paid off CC#8 in full before the zero interest promotion period ended. My balance transfer from CC#1 to CC#2 posted. The fee was $560, so I got 12 months interest free for the price of less than 5 months of interest. I'm hoping to pay off CC#4 this month. My contractor took care of some of my punch list items. I'm hoping to get the rest of them done this month. That might be a tall order since there are jobs that require unique skills left. At least three different guys will have to come in to take care of the rest of my list. -movinonup

I submitted paperwork to an insurance broker to see if I can better/less expensive coverage than USAA on both home and auto. I pay nearly $900/yr for auto and nearly $1100/yr for home so we'll see. Looks like I have an opportunity to save ~$300/yr with a different company. Just need to finalize the details with the broker. I'll have to delay putting it in force until next week so that I can pay for both home and auto for one full year to save the most on the premiums. But I have to see how they're going to handle the homeowners because that is currently covered as part of my escrow. I'm thinking they'll either submit the bill to the mortgage company OR I pay OoP and my mortgage payments get adjusted down the road to accommodate the reduced demand on my escrow account.

Good evening everyone. I've been MIA. There's so much to talk about. Sad news my sister passed away on October 23rd. My son moved out. I'm praying he keeps his apartment. I'm feeling strong enough to go to work tomorrow. I feel bad that I've been off work but I needed a mental break. I'm buying the burial space next to my sister's. It's at zero percent interest. I plan to pay it off asap. Good news my mortgage is below 250K.

sealy My ashes are going in my parents plot, right next to mom as dad is on the outside. My favorite aunt's plot is on the other side and their plan was if my sister and her hubby don't want the two spaces in mom and dad's lot, they would be sold to my aunt's single kids. Who knows what will happen with it in the future.

I wrote a check for one year of auto and they send the homeowners invoice to the mortgage company which means, I'll get a small refund for the prepaid h.o. insurance.

Well, it's good I'm saving all this money 'cause I just found a leak from my bathtub, seeping down the wall in the basement.
