2020 Goals- Pay-No-Interest My goals for 2020 are to pay off my mortgage. I've set the target month for March since it will be 10 years ago in March that we bought our house. I accidentally made 2 payments for January 2020 -- here are the stats: $2,164.00 (New debt total: 08/2018 $388,835; starting debt 05/2007: 369,884)

I'm starting the new year right. Not only did I pay off my highest interest credit card this morning, but I applied and was approved for a SoFi loan to pay off my next two high interest credit cards. I've been toying with the idea for a while and finally decided to bite-the-bullet. The interest rate on those two cards are 24% and 19%. The interest rate I got with SoFi is 16% and there is not an early payoff penalty. This will save me over $2000 in interest alone if I had paid those cards off in the same amount of time as the 2 year loan. I plan to pay off the loan in 16 months (versus the contracted 24) so I'll end up paying less in interest. The two cards I will pay off using the loan have literally been frozen in a block of ice in my freezer for over a year, so I have no temptation to spend on them. This all feels really good and I finally feel like I'm making some great progress toward financial freedom.

Well, because of the age of the house and because of the cost of what it would take to make the house totally up to par for any govt loan, my new realtor is suggesting selling as-is. I'm quite okay with that and told her as much: "As long as I can pay off the mortgage and pay all the fees that go with selling a house, I'm good. If I get an extra $5, bonus!" The mortgage is just under $118,000 and she suggested $145,000 as the as-is listing price. Any condition-of-sale or closing cost assistance will increase that number.

Well. Here is my final update from 2019 (a little late)! I'm very cognizant of the fact that there is $1,300+ in credit card debt added from $0, however, I'm waiting on a $500 refund on that that should be processed in the next week, AND I have the cash to pay it in full (just waiting to see what it looks like with the refund applied). I didn't have my debit card on me when making some Christmas purchases but had the cash set aside, so while it's listed there, that's only to keep me honest and not because it's actual added debt. In other news, I've been able to continue stashing DEXBF's truck payment so my unexpected secret savings plan is over $2,000 now. If my work expenses continue to be above $400 monthly, I will hopefully be able to continue stashing the cash he gives me but I don't want to rely on that so I will play that by ear. At the end of the day even if I can't stash any more money, I still have an additional $2,000+ in cash I didn't plan on saving that will climb to $2,500 in the next couple of weeks and go toward some travel I'm planning this year so I won't end up adding debt for it. I hope everyone had lovely holidays! Happy New Year December Summary• No new credit card debt since paying off all of my credit cards in May! (technically this is true because I have the cash to cover what's listed below!) • Car loan is less than $8K! • Student loans under $29K! WHAT! • Total debt under $39K! 2019 Goals• Under $50K by February 2019 update (met February 2019!!!)• Reach 50% paid off by February 2019 (met January 2019!)• Pay off another student loan by Feb 2019. (met February 2019!!!)• Only have student loans and car loan debt by May 2019. (met May 2019!!!)• Reduce SL#B to <$3,750 by Dec 31 19. Revised from <$2K. (met December 2019!)• Reduce Auto loan to <$8K by Dec 31 19. (met December 2019!)2019 Summary• Started the year at $5,000 in savings with a goal of saving an additional $1,000 for a total of $6,000 in savings. I currently have $14,000 in my emergency savings account and $2,050 saved in cash without adding any more debt. Blew it out of the water entirely, adding over $10K instead of $1K to my emergency savings. Pretty proud of this one. This also included an $18K raise (which was mostly wiped out by an increased cost of living, but also a higher standard of living) and a change in bonus structure from a hard dollar range to a percentage range that will almost double my previous bonus at minimum and almost triple it on the high end (and won't suffer the same cost of living casualty, though I won't reap the benefits of the new structure until February 2021 as most of 2019 was in my old role and bonuses pay out in February of the following year). • I could have done better on the consistent exercise front, but hit my ultimate goal weight anyway (135lbs!) after 9 years of losing weight. 2020 will be for gaining muscle while maintaining my weight and getting back into marathon shape for at least one marathon in 2020 (it will be my 8th!). • I could have also done better on the self care front with all of the change, but am taking steps to do that now and started looking into therapists to help me with stress management (which I'm not so great at and have really been feeling with such significant change - new city where I know no one, new job with high volume and increased responsibility, etc). I also went to the dentist for the first time in 13 years and had no new cavities and overall, the dentist was really impressed with the care and attention I gave to my teeth so I was pretty pleased with that. Update to Race #2 and #3!!
$605.02 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!
Not much new going on here....we have a vaca scheduled for the last week of January. It will be nice to get away and into some warmer weather. Every update gets us a little closer to having the Store Loan paid off and I am so excited for that! We haven't had a new $0 in years!

I really only made it over the thousandth marker in difference because the December 20 update was late in the month and had added on a bunch of interest from the December 6th update....so the fed student loans are only down about 766 from the Dec 6 number.......but aside from that quibble, pretty good, and I'll take it. Unfortunately - I'm not sure if I am going to emerge from the spendy holiday months without some additional debt. I thought I'd navigated it really close but came out successfully - but as soon as 2020 hit, so did some shizzle....hundreds in unexpected, urgent spending and then medical expenses.....1k? An Aside: The hundreds - that ended up not being necessary? DMV issues - they needed a lot of documentation and as we haven't had a printer for a while, needed a new printer to print out said documentation, and some cheap legal help JIC as our final visit to DMV was Jan 2 and flight was Jan 3 ....then on the return visit to DMV - different workers of course, no one asked for all that documentation........ . For the medical expenses, 1k deposit for a biopsy procedure DD needs. It might come out more too.....I switched to HDHP with HSA for this year - and boom - a lot of expenses in the first week of the year. And hopefully - that is it for the issue, it could be pretty serious but I'm hoping not..... Well - as far as the expenses go - I'll see how it plays out. I've reduced my 401k to the minimum to pick up the company match (after excitedly putting it towards maxing it for the year.....waah waah waah waaaaaaaah (the losing sound from that bucket game on bozo's circus....for those who remember such things!) I'll see how long it takes to right the ship on that reduced 401k amount. The depressing part on the 401k is that it means to max for the year - at some point I'm going to have to really up it past the max point. I wasn't even sure if I could meet minimum monthly expenses at the max point, so I will need to rely on Rukh, Inc. income for more than just paying down debt and upping personal spending. And - the longer at the reduced the rate, the longer (and higher!) the more-than-the-max rate is going to have to be.... TL/DR - Good for now! Will see how the next few months play out!!

I have autodebit for my student loans and the Jan payment was scheduled for Jan 4th. That was Saturday so it didn't happen. It didn't happen yesterday--the first weekday following Jan4th--either and my account is showing the payment is past due. I sent them a message, asking why it hasn't been debited yet. Waiting patiently for a reply...

I'm stalling a little. the next shell move I wanted to make isn't available to me at the moment. my $21k limit BofA card had an offer for 1.99 until sometime in 2021, so I moved that balance over to the sky-high limit card. well, I went to make another move today and it wasn't there. so I think I wait a few weeks to see if another offer comes through. there's about $1k left on that card that didn't fit on the BT, so I'll wipe that out first. the $0 will be encouraging, even if it's a shadow $0. whatever. also, I forgot to cancel a $500 payment to that sky-high limit card. it wasn't necessary b/c the BTs were considered payments, and I could have thrown it elsewhere. grr...that's on me. I'll try to gather current numbers before I leave on vacation in a couple weeks. I'm really hoping that I find another offer in the BofA account, so I can consolidate a few smaller balances into one and minimize the interest paid to all of them. we shall see, I guess.

It's not as bad as it looks. I have the money set aside to pay the HELOC in full at closing on our new house. Closing was scheduled for 1/15, but it looks like it's going to be pushed back by a few days. So, sometime in the next two weeks I'll post a $0 balance for race #2 and add race #4 for $230,000, a mortgage on our new home. Sometime this year we will sell house #8 and our current home. That should put $140,000 to $180,000 onto race #4 and take race #3 to $0. Our plan is to hammer at the new mortgage and pay it off within 25 payments. Going great guns for a while there, and then RATS! yep rats, in the wall and the ceiling. $715 to eradicate and since this is our 3rd round in 6 years we are signing up for the $65/month monitoring. So yeah sometimes Murphy is literally a rat. Keep up the good fight Racers! Yikes!
