Sold the adjustable bed that was in the spare room to the roommate that moved out a couple weeks ago. Waiting for a woman to come by who's buying some folding chairs. I attempted to mail some packages earlier. That didn't work so well, being that today is a holiday and all. I'll try again first thing tomorrow, before I go get the moving truck.

I owe an update, it slipped my mind over the weekend. my bad. it's not good, though. total balance ended up going up about $800. as I said before, this is not at all sustainable. I know that booking that bonus cruise probably wasn't the brightest idea, but I can tell you that I need this mental break, badly. I also didn't add anything to any credit card in booking it or anything associated with it. so that's good, but I fully acknowledge that the ~$1k could have been better spent paying stuff down. at this point though, I kind of don't care. what I'll get back from being able to completely unplug is worth way more than the relatively little cost. current focus is to continue clearing out the house, since it needs to happen anyway before selling - both freezer diving to keep grocery costs down, and selling junk in the basement via FB yard sale postings. also, going back to consignment with clothing I haven't worn in forever. I said somewhere else, I just need to keep my head above water until I can list and GTFO of that house, away from the roommate, off the Cape. there will be a few more expenses related to my RE to-do list, but I expect that to be pretty minimal. past that, I'm just sticking close to home and finding free things to do with the pups. I am not planning any more trips to visit AZ this year, especially since I am spending the week with him on that cruise and again in Jan for the one that's built into the budget like my car payment. chiver78 10/16/19 $129,391.68 (2/13/19 $121,788.98)

Update to Race #1, #2, and #4!
$1438.80 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!
It's been crazy here again...some more...lol. We went on a mini vaca to MN and went to 2 Twins games and 3 casinos. It was a super fun trip and hubby just kept winning. We came home up about $3K! We were hoping to put that money into savings, but all of the "fun" bills that have been rolling in are sucking most of it up. The $700 vet bill, 4 new tires on the old truck, pouring a new cement patio at one of our rentals....sub pump and dehumidifier. In the long run it kept us from having to take that money out of savings so I guess that's what counts! Plus our trip was free so that was a huge plus!
When we got back we found out we had water in the other side of our basement. This side has carpet...and I had a HUGE pile of sales items that I hadn't inventoried yet over there....so it was a big mess! Luckily my FIL was house/dog sitting for us, so once he discovered the wet carpet he starting getting things moved and fans running etc. But everything got tossed all over so our basement is a disaster zone. Water issue seems to be temporarily resolved.
Other than that we are just trucking along. Babies birthdays are next month and I've been feeling really down. Keep thinking about how I should be planning a BD party for 1 year old twins. Just trying to get past the day, at least having Mother's and Father's Day behind us, I know the anxiety of the day coming is a lot of the dread. Once I get past the day I feel a lot of relief, so hoping that will be the case again with the BD.
Savings is at $17,200.00

Bankergurl - good luck getting through the next few weeks with the babies anniversary. I know those tough dates are so hard to get through, even though we know the anxiety is a little worse before and is often followed by relief, it's still hard to get through. Congrats on the casino winnings!
I don't have much to report right now, except I get paid friday and haven't had to use the CC! It's a baby step but at least in the right direction. This means I'll have a little extra to put towards the bill. I also got two foster kittens. They're absolutely adorable, I just need to remind myself that in many ways, I'm not ready to adopt yet. Sometimes I find myself saying that these perfect cats are more important than my reasons to wait, but I realize there will be more perfect kittens. I need to focus on my goals, which is travel right now and to travel I need to get my finances caught up, and for that I need to hold off on more pets. Fostering is such a good alternative in the meantime, but these little monsters are so sweet, they'll be hard to send off!

Not sure what advice to extend - what would be most helpful, but I think you do need to take the debt a little more seriously. Rethink your entertainment budget! It seems you are constantly on the move, travel, cruises, bars, etc. Seems like some reigning in is in order.

grrr.....I had this big post, and fat fingered the "back" button on my phone. I'll write it back out again when I get home later.
short version - I don't disagree on needing to rein things in more than I might be rn, but have a few things to clarify. I don't include every detail here on WIRR, so I feel like maybe there is a disconnect about why I am doing some of the things I have been lately.

acknowledging now for accountability. I am still on my phone, and heading to bed shortly. this week has been the worst in easily a decade for actually sleeping through the night. wherever I am, for those actually keeping score.
I'm really annoyed at my fat fingers from earlier. I got it all out without tears. ill do it again, maybe? it might take a bit, have some early to do list stuff coming this weekend. I was so proud of myself earlier for that post that got lost, I had everything I needed to fucking say and then it was gone.
apologies for language. I'm wound a lot tight rn. Ill check back in when i can.

alright, let's see if I can write this out without losing it again. the post, my mind, whatever. apologies for length, I've been trying to keep posts in this thread shorter than in the past, but I feel like I need to explain myself a little. thanks for reading. so the entertainment budget that you refer to isn't exactly just that. I'll hit the travelling first. the trip to Austria was for work, I'm not sure how clear that was when I was posting. I spent $5 on a souvenir for my sister and a postcard for my cousin. the trip to AZ was on airline points and on the cheap otherwise since I was staying *with* AZ - a guy that has slowly been becoming a large part of my life and may end up the reason I pack up and move myself and the pups out west. that trip was as much to see him as it was to see if I thought I could live out there. I'm not sure where home is anymore. it isn't where I am now, and where I was before is so different, so much more developed in just 5y, and I'm not sure that's where I want to be either. I didn't when I was there before, why would I think that's where I want to be long term? I may as well just move west to start over. at least I know I've got someone out there that's been holding back on me because he's afraid the logistics aren't going to work with me all the way over here. we had some really good chats when I was out there, and I'm counting down the days til I get to FL in a couple weeks and I see him again. the cruises are a huge part of my life as well. the big one in January has been a budget item since my first trip in 2003. as in, they get regular small payments on paydays, until the fare is paid off. that is not going away, sorry. there are too many loved ones that have become my family that live scattered around the country. this particular trip is the only time we all get to see each other each year. moving on. the trip in a couple weeks was a bonus. I already owned that I could have spent that money better elsewhere, but what this bonus trip is giving me is an escape from reality. more on that in a bit. I booked this on a deal that the management company does - if a trip hasn't sold out and you've paid full price for something else, you can get a stupidly cheap deal on the trip that hasn't sold out. I paid $300 for the cruise fare, period. cash in one shot, not credit. no additional taxes or tips or anything. full price for that cabin was more like $1400pp flight was on airline points, hotel is a bunch of us in a suite that I booked on a friends 'n family rate. that is going to work out to $50pp. drinks are covered by a beverage package that's already pre-paid, so there won't be an onboard account charge unless I decide to throw down $100 one night in the casino, which will probably happen. all the mentions of bars aren't quite what you're thinking it to be. for example, last Sunday I went to a sports bar. I did that because I wanted a pizza to pick at for the week, and that place is one of the better options around here. I spent $13 on the pizza, and I only pitched the last slice this morning (I had taken a cold slice for breakfast on the train each morning). was the drink $7? yeah. did I take up a seat at the bar watching football while I waited for my pizza? yep. I also didn't want to be at my house while my roommate was. so there you go. yesterday, I spent the afternoon at another place - a seafood restaurant where my friend is a bartender. I camped out in the bar for a few hours, working, with a glass of wine. my golden retriever hates when I'm on a screen, so I generally find somewhere else to spend the afternoon on days I WFH and can't be out on the back patio b/c I just keep the pups outside with me. when I say I'm at a bar, it's usually because I am friends with the bartender (there are a couple places..) and I know that they won't toss me b/c I'm taking up space as I nurse a drink or two to not have to interact with my roommate, yes in MY own home. I guess the question I have, that I raised in the lost post - the travel was booked before I realized exactly how not sustainable my current situation is. would it have been better for me to cancel the trips and eat what I've already paid? at this point, I'm waiting until I get back from the bonus cruise to tell my roommate that I am listing the house in the spring. I am legally required to give him 30 days' notice as he is finally under a lease. I had the foresight to recognize how volatile he will likely be when I would ultimately end that lease, and put him on a 30 day, tenant at will lease. the option I will be giving him is that he can stay til the listing goes live, and help me with my to-do list OR this is your 30 day notice. so, keeping that in mind, I need pup coverage while I'm away. if I say anything now, I haven't the faintest clue how he will react, and whether he will stay or not, and what his attitude will be about the whole thing. I'd love to think that he wouldn't do anything to harm or neglect the pups, but I can't be sure. and if I don't have him for the pups while I'm not here, I'd have my mom come down for the week (she's done it before, and that is not at all an issue) but I am not going to put her in the position to have to deal with him in that frame of mind. that's not fair to my mom... and may actually be unsafe. when I get back, I'll be home until late January. plenty of time for him to leave, via whichever option he chooses. but it will be ME cleaning up the mess I made, not my mom. with all of that said, I'm having a hard time biting my tongue about a few things that keep coming up. I want to just tell him off and be done with it, but I need him here in a couple weeks so I can just go away for a few days and clear my head. I felt so much better coming back from that long weekend in AZ because I was able to refresh and figure a few things out. you'd best believe there will be a throw down when I get back. likely when I offer him his options, because I can just imagine how that news will be received. I'm well aware that I have made a lot of mistakes in the 5y I have lived here, the biggest of which was inviting the roommate here to "help us both out" when the golden was still a puppy. I'm trying to fix that now. it won't happen in a day. so there it is, flame away. the world inside my head hasn't been a fun place lately. I know I'll come out of this okay, I just need to survive the next few weeks or so. also, feel free to ask questions. I've read this over a couple times and I'm still not sure I said everything I needed to say.

I know things are tough right now Chiver! And so giving you the community support here with all the virtual hugs!! and props for posting and staying in the thread. Keeping this on your radar is important. But - just keeping it on the radar isn't really doing anything. For some people it would. But that isn't working for you. So - here comes the tough love! And I will preface this as being the last bit of tough love I have to offer you. You know you've dug a hole, and you're wanting to dig out of it, you've acknowledged that bankruptcy is the eventual outcome if you don't right this ship. So - there isn't a whole lot to discuss unless you come forward with some detailed information on numbers - budgeting, pay down, interest rates, specific questions on strategy, etc. So unless/until that is up for discussion - these are my last two points for your consideration: Your spending (read:over spending) is emotional spending. If there are emotions involved (and it can be positive or negative emotions!) that outweighs any math to you. That is something that I think you need to grapple with a bit. The second point is your distinction between spending money and charging on a card. I think you need a realization that everything you choose to spend is essentially being financed on a credit card. If you take cash out of your paycheck and buy a beer - the cost of that beer is going to sit on a balance on a credit card for at least 10 years because you are so far in the hole or until you declare bankruptcy. You could have paid that money on the balance, but you choose to have a beer and now that 7(?) dollars that might have been paid off is collecting 24% interest until your balances is paid off. And you can absolutely attribute it to the highest interest rate you have a balance on because that is the balance that you could have paid on. And assigning a line item to an annual cruise doesn't alter the fact that you are financing it via credit cards. I'm sorry, but that is the grim reality that you are living with until that balance is paid off. Even allotting yourself 100/month for entertainment would be extravagant given your debt, and I feel that you are well beyond that level of spending. But if you are ever going to dig out of this, you need to have some limit on your discretional spending.

not terribly helpful today, but thanks. I'm trying to keep myself sane while I hold everything in and not kill my roommate before I have the chance to throw him out.
I'll ask the question again though - would you have eaten the fares already paid, to stay home and bite your tongue?

No. But having him gone and paying a dogsitter or service would have been better for your emotions and peace of mind. That way the only additional expense is taking care of the dogs and you don't have to leave your own house constantly because of another person. I would suggest giving him notice right now and make arrangements for the dogs. With everything else going on, your home should be your oasis right now. I know it's easier said than done, but this has been going on for a while now and you should not feel uncomfortable in your home.

I leave in 2 weeks. he's still entitled to be here while I'm gone if I tell him today. that's not happening, him knowing he has to go while I am not here. it's fine. nothing I am going to do for the next 2 weeks is going to make or break me, it can wait til I get back. I dont need pup care next week as M is on vacation to watch her moms pup. she is basically going to bring that pup here and hang out with all three next week. they are here now, actually. Like I said, just wound a lot tight these days.

I do remember that there was a comment in the lost post hoping that people wouldn't take it as excuses, but that I recognized some would. honestly, I am going to just tread water til i get back. I just don't have the brainpower to handle it right now.

Ok - so that is the plan, and that sounds reasonable given what already has been paid.
Do have a good time! Hopefully you can start to tackle things when you return.

Hopefully you can start to tackle things when you return. thank you. that's the plan. sanity being the first priority, because I'm kind of useless without it. I've posted a bunch elsewhere on the boards about this, which I didnt really do justice in the rant earlier. my parents are coming down tomorrow am to replace an exterior door and fix some water damage over the door frame from last winter - one of the things on my to do list*. I need to go out in the am and buy a couple pieces of hardware for the door that I bought last weekend, but that's about it. past that, I spent $42 at the grocery store this am on some fresh veggies for me and meats/10lbs of rice for the dogs (I do minimal kibble with real food. its better for them, and actually a lot cheaper as a bonus). other than daily parking at the train station on the days I go in to the office, I dont see myself spending anything until I leave for FL. *my dad is a contractor. it will be done right.
