Ok... jumping right on! I was here about 3 years back and fell off because a lot happened, lost job, moved to a different state 9 hours away, had a baby, got new job, etc. So not even going to search for my old post and just starting a new race to keep it moving. We made a good income, save a good chunk but also spend a lot. We also have been tiptoeing around this debt for 2 years now (since DD was born) and it has increased some and I want it gone. More so now that we are talking about trying for #2. We do have some options to us that would help accelerate it but I am also a money "hoarder"; savings makes me feel "secure" and more so with my job on a rocky place. So yes I know we could scale back from maxing 403b and 401k, the HSA and other savings to kind accelerate the paydown but I don't want to do that yet. My goal is to be done with this in 3 years max. I used about half of our immediate EF at the beginning of the year ~10k thanks to Murphy (basement flooded, some of it insurance did not cover); MA levied 2k of my wife income for what seems to be old taxes that we are working on getting back (we did pay) and had to send ~2k to the Feds and State on 04/15 (this past Monday) for 2018 Taxes. Weird how long it takes to save 10k and how quickly it was spent (~1 month). Goal is to simply pay this sucker down. I currently send about ~$1,600/month towards the debt paydown. Big concern is in the midst of my job (crazy story, was fired and re-hired within 24 hours), me trying to launch my side business, all the craziness that is our life, a toddler : I kinda missed that the 0% trial period on those cards was ending … Imagine my shock when I was paying them this month and noticed that the balance was not going down by much... That because most of the payments for most was going towards interest. So working on a plan for that, not 100% sure yet what will be the final detail. Enough talking; here we go (rounded the numbers since easier to post like that while at work. cawiau 04/17/19 $62,000

Do you think you'll do an avalanche attack (highest %) or snowball (lowest balance)? I employed snowball until three or four months ago and then switched to avalanche because I didn't want to be paying a debt on something that wouldn't be coming with me when I moved this coming Sept i.e. my HVAC. I wanted to get its balance down to something that would surely get paid off when I sold the house. Then, with the lack of mortgage payment and other household expenses, I'll tackle the student loans and then the vehicle. So far the plan is the snowball method... I reduced my EF to about ~5k (will rebuilt throughout the year) and transferred enough money to pay off the HSBC and WF. Hopefully that will bring some momentum and keep moving us moving forward with the debt pay down. Also been driving for Uber eat starting 04/15 and all the money made from there will be sent towards debt pay down too.

Haitian, I think that I would study the fine print. Since your job situation is somewhat iffy (I missed the fired and rehired thing - it sounds very strange!), I would check for when any 0% (or other low rate) ends, and what the minimum payments are, and also weigh in how much you owe. For instance, the HSBC is a comparably low amount. It may be a good target in order to get one payment less to handle, and a free card for "the transfer game". If there is a card which will comparably soon go to a high rate, it might be a good idea to target that one, if for nothing else than to get a smaller amount to "play the transfer game" with. If there is a card with a high minimum per amount owed (make the division (minimum amount/debt amount) and compare, it can be a good idea to focus on that one, since it might be more difficult to keep is paid as agreed if money is scarce. After doing the above, I hope that you have narrowed down the field a bit.... Actually good post and bring the dilemma I have been playing over and over in my head the past week or so. Again this is totally my fault because I dropped the ball and got buried in work and did not keep a good track on when transfers were expiring and what not. So we find ourselves in the current situation were they all expired and we are paying regular rate. I added it up and basically interest was $1,050 out of $1,500 payment. Off course that will go down as I pay it down and maybe more balance transfers come available. My quick fix to this was to take a loan from my 401k; pay it off... and once the balances clean (a month or two) ... hopefully I will get other offers for 0% transfers and I can use those to pay back the 401k loan (interest rate is 6.5%). I could keep the interest rate long term but with shaky employment I may be here 1 month or 5 years... no guarantee. A big risk and been wondering if worth it. Again just thinking out loud here!

The Haitian - Welcome back! As I recall your race before was much higher so hoping that is a good thing (or maybe there were mortgages etc. in there before?) Either way the first step is listing it all out and making a plan so congrats on getting back into it! I am also a money "hoarder" so I totally get that. I need the comfort of a lot in savings.
Imaangel - Yeah for a new zero! Very exciting! And don't let the "big picture" get you down, you are doing awesome and have made so much progress already! Just keep going and you will reach the finish line!

I keep chipping away at the HVAC debt. I sent a large payment at the beginning of the month and have been able to four smaller payments towards it, this month, as well. May 1st will be my last full Housing Stipend and my last chance to throw a huge payment at the HVAC BUT, when I do, it'll bring the balance down to just over 10% remaining.
I did get a raise of .32/hr at the part time. And I'm hoping some folks at the campus will take me on as an assistant over the summer. Driving 3 miles to make $8.75/hr is sometimes better than driving 45 miles to make (now) $10.12/hr. I don't mind the drive if it's during the week when the tolls are only $1 each. I'll bypass none of them when it's like that. During the weekend, though, when they're $3 each. I try to avoid two of the four.
Two weeks from today is commencement. 25 years in the making for my college career.

Just sticking to the plan. I'll be paying roughly $500/month through October, and then this debt will be gone. I am taking the time to rebuild savings. It feels good to be on track.

Update! Pay-no-Interest $11,200.00 (New debt total: 08/2018 $388,835; starting debt 05/2007: 369,884)
This month marks my 12 year anniversary with WIRR. I joined back with it was a small group of us under the leadership of Maureen Dunleavy, watched it expand into the different regions, and now we are back to a small family again!
Some Stats: % paid on my mortgage: 94% ($176,800.00)
% paid on my total debt: 97.1% ($377,635.00) It has been a long journey, I still owe money on my mortgage but I keep knocking it down little by little. It has been great to have all of you alongside me as I keep chipping away at this final debt. Happy Spring!

Still don't have firm numbers on the pension buyback. I know a lot of people did things to their pension choices at the end of the year (there was a big rule change effective 1/1/19), but does it really take this long to figure it out? so frustrated!! I keep entering the pay deposit in my spreadsheet as what it will be when they finally get around to taking it out, and then I have to change it every pay. Please, just get around to telling me.

It has been a while since my last post and a lot has happened. As you can see from totals I am even further in debt now. I didn't have tenants for a while so I got behind in rent and now owe $15,500 to my parents. I did manage to pay back some of the money the loaned my last year so i guess I could be happy about that. As I mentioned in my January post I decided to go back to school to pursue a MBA, I will be finished my second class on May 19 but I have decided I should focus on getting my CPA designation instead of the MBA so I purchased the review materials using my MasterCard. Looks like I have fallen off the board. Please put me back on and adjust my starting figures so I can get credit for future debt payments. Thanks

Update: Nooccar(2): 5/3/2019 $45,666.33 (11/4/2010 $73,475.09 WU197)
I'm on pace to make my 1st year goal with this mortgage to pay it down by $5000. I am still considering renting a room or hosting a college student to accelerate the pay off. I've done both in the past but this place is smaller which makes me hesitate.

Update! Pay-no-Interest
I made a mistake on my previous post, I meant to write $11,200, not $11,700 remaining on my mortgage. I had some extra money left over after paying bills and moving $$ to various savings accounts and so I decided to apply an additional $200 toward my principle on my mortgage. Here are my new totals:
$11,000.00 (New debt total: 08/2018 $388,835; starting debt 05/2007: 369,884)

You're so close paynointerest ! Did you ever finish that bedroom? I love the idea of renting to a visiting professor (ie short-term).

paynointerest , when I get to 11,000, I'm not sure I'll be able to stop myself from raiding the savings account and paying the mortgage earlier. I'm at $21.7k+ so I can't do it now, but I figured out I'll be around $5-6k just after Christmas, and it will be tempting. I'll see how it goes this year. You must be getting excited about finishing up.

I have one little nook that I have to paint but I have stuff in that corner that has to be moved to my upstairs office. I just committed to the paint colors I want in the office and need to get it painted, then shelves built to move stuff from the downstairs bedroom to the upstairs office. It is definitely a process!

Maryland Monroe -- it is tempting but I'm committed to maxing out my retirement and having money in place to cover my taxes, etc. If I get these goals met, any extra money will go toward the mortgage. It is nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

paynointerest you could always move that stuff upstairs while you wait for the new shelves. That way you could finish painting. But maybe you're using those items now. Feel free to disregard that comment. You know I'm extremely impatient LOL.

I also have to finish painting the upstairs office, add new shelves to that before I can move the stuff from the downstairs bedroom. I'll get to it in time.

it's been a little bit since I've checked in here, haven't had much to report. not putting up numbers today, because a couple things have gone up in the midst of some chaos. I also had a dustup with the bank that currently holds my primary checking account, in that they sent out a payment I had changed the date on, and they are refusing to acknowledge that their app f'd up, that it was an "approved payment" as it was an iteration of a recurring pmt I had set up eons ago, and as such are refusing to refund the overdraft fees for the other stuff that bounced because of it - things that would have cleared, had payments gone out as I had set up. I've already opened new ck/sav at a CU this week, and have already started moving billpay info over. since I'm going to be between the two accounts for a cycle or two, I'm not going to make a snowball payment to the large interest rate card this month to keep some extra cash on hand. as soon as I see everything successfully clear for the new account, I will be closing my ck/sav at Bank of America. as soon as both CCs of theirs are paid off, those will go as well. the way they have handled this is so far beyond NOT OKAY, I'm all set. there will also be a call in to the banking commission. as in, YOUR technology f'd up, and this is how you respond to it? no. how is that even legal? grrr.... in the meantime, I got an email update from Citi this morning - that large interest rate card (Diamond) has had a bump in credit limit. ¿qué? my other Citi card had its limit lowered over the winter, to just over the balance at the time. this is the 2nd limit bump for the Diamond card over the same time period. that's crazy. but, it gives me a good tool to use in paying stuff down. there's $5700 left on that card now, and between snowball and bonus payout next month, I will have that paid off by July. then I have a nice, empty card with a $14k limit available to consolidate smaller balances at a promotional rate so I can focus on the next highest interest rate.

Update to Race #1, #2, #3 and #4! So many awesome celebrations this time!! $1629.02 paid off in the last 2 weeks!! It's been a rough time lately. Mother's Day was a total and complete beat down complete with panic attack and puking. I've hated Mother's Day my entire adult life, but now it's a whole new kind of monster.
Vegas was super fun and a nice getaway for me and hubby, but not good on the gambling front. Of course I have been a gambler for many years so I know how that goes, and we are in a position to be able to go and do that, still not fun to lose..lol.
We had our rummage sale and even though the weather was bad it still went really well. The sale as a whole made $2996.25. About $1000 of that was mine, but haven't tallied final numbers for me yet.
We used a casino win from before Vegas to throw on Rental #1 to get us below the $500K mark!! I hope to never go above that again!
Savings was at $18,350, last check, I haven't added up our deposits, FB Sales, rummage sale money, and subtracted Vegas losses yet, so not sure where we are at just yet. I will update that next time.
Celebrations for this update:
