POM---fourth row down, far right is the kiss smiley (shortcut keys are : - * no spaces of course). With the new setup it must freeze in a point of animation where you can't see the red lips anymore ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) )

LOL! We have 8.0.6001. What do you have? POM that's what I have. Actually it says 8.0.6001.18702. I do see animated and moving avatars.

I did prefer IE 7, less of a memory hog and not shutting down and restarting browser windows due to what seem to be Microsoft programming errors.

Yay!! My smoochy/kissy face didn't look like Virgil's because it was not animated! Now that it's animated I see the red lips. ![:-*](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/kiss.png)

Problem solved, and the world is once again filled with much kissing. ![:-*](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/kiss.png) ETA: And as far as IE is concerned, may it be banished to the same pit as the snow leopards. Truly, no non-programmer can appreciate how thrown together it is. Not a word of a lie: 35-55% of the effort of any of these ProBoards hacks is figuring out how to primitivize and dumb-down code enough so that IE can handle what every other browser can do without breaking a sweat.

Weird Rose, I can see them where you quoted them. It seems that if the "shortcut" morphs into a link upon posting I can see them. Like this one: #rofl# But if it doesn't, nothing. I can type shortcuts and get a face but only if they're symbolic: : ( or ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

I don't think there's anything Virgil or anyone can do about that. I've got the same issues CL does--well, at least as far as the smileys go. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) It's basically just because of something our employers block on our computers that keeps the script from running correctly for us. Or something like that. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Befferz, I was thinking it was something here on my end too, glad I'm not the only one. And how do you know you don't have the same issues as me?? You're HERE aren't you? ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

You wouldn't be able to see the icons at the bottom if scripts were disabled.
One of the things I discovered recently is that if you submit using the shortcut (Alt+S), the smileys aren't properly converted.
This is a problem with the old Smilies V2 code that VSmileys is built on top of. See if clicking on the "Post Reply" button rather that using the shortcut fixes the problem.

I never use the shortcut, so that's not it. It's NBD really, at least to me, so don't worry your pretty little head about it. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I appreciate your stoicism, but if you're experiencing the problem then it's very likely others are too.
What browser are you using?

It's IE...but it's at work, so please don't hate me. ![](http://boards.msn.com/Themes/default/emoticons/47_47.gif) I'm pretty sure it's version 8, but no idea which service pack it is, since I'm at home now (and on firefox). The smileys work fine here, and it seems to be ok on IE8 here at home too. I'm pretty sure it's just something at work blocking the scripts from running. Security is pretty tight at my company. I also have another loophole at work too. ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png)

I don't hate IE users, dear Befferz. I pity them. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) IE users are like that poor sweet old lady in 3F. When she accidentally drops a box of peppercorns and they scatter on the kitchen floor, she quietly drops to all fours and begins collecting them individually with her tongue, shambling over to the garbage can, and spitting them in. When you notice what she's doing, you rush over with vacuum in hand, saying "There's no need to do that. My HooverFox will take care of it in twenty seconds." But she smiles at you wistfully and replies, "Oh no, young man. I've always done it like this. I can't imagine doing it any other way. I call it Intricate Extraction. And I'm just so comfortable with IE that I could never use HooverFox." I... I'm getting misty here.

Reminds me of a story: A family would always cut off the ends of a roast before putting it in the pan to bake. One of the kids asked 'why do you cut off the ends of the roast? The mom said: ' it will taste better that way' The grandma said:' That's not it at all, we cut off the ends so it will fit in the pan.' ![:-*](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/kiss.png)

You certainly have a way with words, sir. ![](http://media.funsmileys.com/smileys/happy040.gif) I have to say though, that I'm not terribly impressed with FF. Mostly because of one tiny thing--I hate the way it refreshes. With IE, if I'm in the middle of a page and hit refresh/F5, it refreshes right back in the middle of the page where I was. With FF, it starts the refresh at the top of the page, but then moves down to the middle of the page where I was. I can scroll down while it's still finishing the refresh, but then when the refresh finishes, it moves me even farther down the page. So if I try to click on something before it's done refreshing, half the time it moves just as I click, and I end up clicking on the wrong thing. Yes, I'm picky. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)
