For the sake of everyone, please bring back the fist fight. Easier to break up.

I just hope this isn't used as some BS ammunition against the 2nd Amendment (as things of this nature usually are).
Don't blame the weapon... blame the person that used it. If not gun, then a pipe bomb. If not a pipe bomb, then a car rammed into the building. If not a car rammed into the building, then something else. Bad people that want to do bad things WILL find a way to do them.

I'd say it is relevant where he obtained the weapon.

Random victims or specifically targeted ones... a bad guy that wants to do bad things will find a way.

You suggested "a pipe bomb" and "a car rammed into the building." Neither of these would be effective if the goal was to target only specific individuals.

There would be collateral damage as well, but either of them them would be just as effective at hitting their target as a gun would/could be.

I saw this on our news here earlier today. There is no rhyme or reason as to why the student decided to open fire in the cafeteria. Trying to imply he had a specific target in mind makes no sense.
Any little incident in this kid's mind could have triggered him. ESPECIALLY if he had psychological problems - instead of opening fire in the cafeteria, he may have just as likely shot his parents for all we know. People snap - and we often never know why or get the answers. And the sad thing is, there are always innocent victims in the aftermath.
Just my personal opinion, but I think too many of our youth today are being exposed to violence through TV and movies - not to mention a large majority being fed prescriptions for all kinds of "disorders" and we don't know the full effect some of those drugs have on them over an extended period.
Youth today are becoming too desensitized for reasons I mentioned above, as well as others.

...
"I was sitting at the table right next to the round table (where the shooter was). I just got done eating my food. He was quiet, everyone was talking. All of sudden he stands up, pulls something out of his pocket. At first I thought it was someone making a really loud noise like a bag, a loud pop. There were four more after that. I saw three kids just fall from the table, like they were falling to the ground dead. ..." www.king5.com/story/news/local/2014/10/24/marysville-pilchuck-high-school/17839189/ Do you think that it was a random grouping of individuals that the shooter was sitting with at that table at a high school?

I read that he had targeted his friends and it was not random- guess we will find out. In fact I am not sure it was a he- no mention of who it was yet- but I'll take effed up white kid for 1000 Alex.
Was supposedly a popular kid, played sports, etc. Obviously a major malfunction.

Marysville Pilchuck High School has many students from the Tulalip Indian tribe. Ron Iukes, a youth counselor with the tribe, said Fryberg was from a well-known tribal family. www.foxnews.com/us/2014/10/24/police-respond-to-shooting-at-washington-state-high-school/
