Since I said stuff about me being lighter than 4 month ago I want to tell you all how weight loss affected my husband who also lost 16lb by then. My DH reached 260lb weight being 6'2" tall. He had a stant in his heart arthery for 5 years and last cardiologist appointment doctor looked at his results and said 'I am putting my food down here. If you are not losing at least 10lb in next three month - I am putting you on every pill in a book'.
Appointment had happened on May,30. June,1st we had stopped eating bread and potatoes and got onto salads and meat and seafood. We can't diet, really. Life has not too much entertainment and food is one of those things so we went 'naah', we are adjusting it to our own liking.
For both giving up bread and potatoes was like a shocker. However we love fish. Whiting is one of the favorites. We had whiting and salads for days. But it is just us, we don't get tired of whiting. people were laughing. Weeks on fish? But we did it. I think stomach somehow shrank. To be honest we had burgers and cheesesteaks (no roll) and home fries in this 3 month but in smaller quantites.
To make a long story short - in 3 month exactly my husband had 16lb down. Blood sugar 50 points down from 170 Blood pressure 120/90 down from 160/100 (he is on the bp meds) Triglecirides from 800 to 300...and cholesterol doc said was good.
Soooooooooo...I could not believe my ears! Only 16lb brought him down that much!!! Now he is 22lb down and we are eating everything. Just not that much. Honestly we could have half-loaf of bread for dinner. Nowadays we eat bread IF there is an awesome gravy that you must dunk something into.
Just sharing with those who are none-believers. IT WORKS!!!
P.S. I was dizy for 2 weeks and felt awful. Then I took my bp and it was 90/60. So I had stopped taking my bp meds about 2 month ago.

Wow. Good for him (and you). And now I'm reminded of how I need to get back on my health kick. I'm so busy running kids to all thier healthy things like soccer and swimming that our eating is suffering. Give up potatoes? Ugh.

Doesn't it feel good to meds?
Congrats to both of you.
My DHs heart attack was the proverbial 2x4 for us. It's amazing the stimulus a medical emergency will give.

tloonya, did your husband start to feel better overall (like more energy) when he made the changes to his diet and started losing weight? I'm just curious because I started making better food choices a couple months ago. I'm pleased with my efforts to take better care of myself, but I was hoping it would also help me feel better overall. Congratulations to your DH for making the changes and getting the results. And good for you, for being right there with him, making the same changes. Keep up the good work!

When my husband lost weight I was amazed at how losing even just a little bit made a difference, and all the things it changed. My big shocker was that he stopped snoring. I get so much more sleep now.
Congrats to you and your husband. Portion control is a huge part of maintaining a healthy weight. If you make your portion sizes just 10% smaller, it can make a huge difference. And if you need something that isn't traditionally slotted in the "good for you" category - you can have some.

I just started getting my lazy butt back on the treadmill after not stepping on it since May. Lately it seems like everyone is on Map My Run or other apps so it kind of calls out if you are being lazy. I only run if bees are chasing me, but I will walk, lol. My husband started getting in shape (he's 6'2" and at his heaviest, probably weighed 275 or more). He is down in the 230s now, and just had his personal best running, at 6+ miles...

When I turned 34 in Sep, I made it a goal before I'm 35 to get back to the best shape of my life when I was 25 when I was dunking basketballs and could run forever at 180 lbs/6'4.
I'm halfway there, down to 195 from 210 and am working out every day and am in much better shape. I eat fruit for breakfast, a spinach salad for lunch and usually fish for dinner. At first it was tough, but what kept me to it was keeping an endless supply of canned fruit at my desk and leaving money/cc at home during work. I also switched to Miller 64's instead of full beer. I feel so much better now. It does get annoying telling people no to food on the weekends and at work, I think people pressure others to eat badly so they don't feel as bad about doing it themselves.

He still needs to lose 'beer belly though he drinks no beer. Also we were told not to expect anything in first 3-6 month. Body is not believing you that you are about to be good. So it'll be in idle mode for a while. Then all of a sudden your scale shows 5lb down and you go WOW! and there where it starts. Do not give up. Time is very personal. But also do not forget to cheat when you are feeling the urge...for pizza! But not the whole pie

Wondering what would have happened if I was exersizing on the top of all this?

I started at 390 and have now lost about 135 pounds. I currently weigh what I did when I was about 4 months prego with my first son, back in 1993. I have never been in good shape, but I am now. I started slow with exercise being cleaning up around my property. Once the property looked fantastic I decided I needed more challenge and took up hiking/rock hounding. I have been climbing the butte behind my house where there is an old copper mine and a mineralization zone that creates interesting rocks/minerals. When I first started I stayed around the base of the butte. Now I head straight up its sandy/steep sides without even getting out of breath. The first time I hit the top of the butte and could see my property from up there I was THRILLED. My last MD appt my BP was down to 110/68. Slow and steady wins the race. Eat a bit better than you currently do, move more, and if you need it, seek medical help for depression. A winning combo for me!

But my SIL started in her 40's and just ran her first full marathon last weekend in Atlantic City, so I don't think it's ever to late to start if you're physically up to it.

Slow and steady wins the race. Eat a bit better than you currently do, move more, and if you need it, seek medical help for depression. A winning combo for me! Shasta has it right; slow and steady. It's always sad to see people start out, New Year's Resolution-style, with exercise classes or new equipment that leaves them in so much pain the next day that they don't want to get out of bed- so they give up. In my case I don't use a scale. I get way too hung up on day-to-day fluctuations. I go by how my clothes fit.
If you start out slowly you'll learn to read your body's signals. You can push beyond a little pain (unless it's aggravating problems such as a bad back or old soccer injuries, in which case you should consult your doc first). Then there are the times your body is screaming, "if you keep doing this you will be very sorry". I've got a few kinks from when I twisted my leg years ago on a fall from my bike. I will never run a marathon because too much running aggravates that pain, which I figure isn't a good sign. OTOH, I feel as if I can bicycle or swim forever. Yesterday I rode 22 miles, and I'm 61.
Find an exercise you like and don't think of it as exercise. It's a walk, a bike ride, watching TV (while you happen to be on a treadmill), etc.

I don't think a burger on weekend will hurt you. I had pizza yesterday 2 slices (without crust). Woke up today 40lb down legit!!! Wondering what would have happened if I was exersizing on the top of all this? I know several people that lost a lot of weight and 3 people that had gastric bypasses. All of them got smaller, but none of them really looked good. I think the way that they lost the weight and the fact that none of them started exercising is why they ended up looking the way that they did. They either looked sick, or they looked smaller but flabby. I've done a lot of reading lately about getting physically fit. From what I've read, when you lose a significant amount of weight, it's not only fat you lose, but muscle too. Exercising regularly helps you keep more of your muscle while you shed the fat. Having appropriately sized muscles (not huge like body-building pros, that's a different subject) is part of what makes us look "fit". Most of the people I mentioned also gained most, if not all, of the weight back eventually. Their methods for losing weight were not sustainable for the long term. They did things like drinking tons of green tea and eating very little food to lose weight fast instead of just making adjustments to what they eat and gradually losing weight. One of the ladies that had gastric bypass is still big, but not nearly as big as she was before. She was HUGE. I think that if you're mindful of what you eat most of the time, you can splurge every once in a while and enjoy some pizza. I think that for most people, if you decide you're NEVER going to eat any of the foods you love, all of a sudden, that's going to be all you can think about eating.

I eat whatever I want, but I use what I have eaten as a judge for how much physical activity I need to require of myself. I also started feeling better on the days that I move, so that also motivates me to move more. The secret, IMHO, is keeping at it past the first couple weeks when you feel like you are going to fall over dead from exercise. As you get more fit, and build some muscle, things get easier to do and the soreness goes away. It's easier to breathe and you don't sweat to death anymore. It also helps to have a large breed dog that has a lot of energy and loves to go out hiking. I can do about 3 miles at this point, and I don't get sore anymore. I can also now go out rocking for a few hours, then come home and shower and cook dinner. I no longer feel the need to take a bath and pass out after exercise.

I need an advice on flabby underarms exersize. I do not like googling it because it is all for skinsters from birth. Mine are flabby not from weight loss. I always had it like this. Be4 and after.

shake weight is the only thing you need for that.
