Raked over the coals for being bad when dealing with blacks.
Now today, a new twist, but totally unrelated. Had to be an almost new record for amont of time spent solving a major serial killer. Hammond police uncovered a mass murderer. Called to a motel for a victim in the room. Turns out she was strangled, they had info on a person of interest from either the motel, or the room itself (no one is saying too much) was issued an arrest warrant, drove to Gary, arrested him took him back to Hammond, and was a fountain of info for them. Killed the girl in the room, and said he had dumped some other women in abandoned homes around Gary. Total of seven women in three abandoned houses plus the motel room. Now the rumors are he is giving more info on possibly more victims. Singing like a bird, without any police brutality........very strange and quite a surprise to the various police departments now involved. Had a conviction from Texas for sex crimes.
Anyway, I imagine Hammond and Gary will be on the national news with MSNBC, CNN, FOX, etc, tonight. Only posted this because no one has as of now. Lots of news to come, and some of it not very pretty.

PART OF THE ARTICLE.....
GARY, Ind. — Police investigating the slayings of seven northwestern Indiana women whose bodies were found over the weekend said Monday they believe it is the work of a serial killer, and that the suspect has indicated there could be more victims going back 20 years.
The Lake County prosecutor's office on Monday charged 43-year-old Darren Vann of nearby Gary, Indiana, in the strangulation death of 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy. Her body was found Friday night at a Motel 6 in Hammond.
Officials in nearby Gary were expected to charge Vann later this week in the deaths of six more women, whose bodies were found Saturday and Sunday. Hammond Police Chief John Doughty said at a news conference that Vann confessed to Hardy's slaying and gave police information that led to the other bodies in Gary, including three on the same block.
Vann was a convicted sex offender in Texas, where he pleaded guilty to raping a woman in 2009 and was released from prison in July 2013.

Texas is now checking missing persons reports for the period he stayed in Texas. There is a possibility he has murders going back twenty years.

"Raked over the coals for being bad when dealing with blacks"
What does that mean? Or better explain how it doesn't mean what I think it might mean. Am I missing something here?

No, you are not missing anything. This is the department that was on the news last week for being racist in traffic stops, stopping blacks for violations outlined by the state and federal government laws they are sworn to uphold. And now, in two days, they solved a serial killer case involving seven dead women. Now I know this wasn't rocket science since the guy is freely giving them information, but sometimes you are unlucky on video cameras, and sometimes you get lucky on phone numbers. That is how they tracked him down, but gee whiz, solve seven murders and recover the bodies in two days. Not a bad day for the police, and some closure for families.
And local news is still saying there might be more missing women discovered.

Value Buy-do the police believe the murders occured all around the same time or over a period of time. I hesrd the bodies were found in abandoned houses assuming no one would find the bodies until much later.

How are the two related? Has anyone suggested racist cops are incapable of solving crimes?
And oh yes- more victims. We don't hear about them so much but this guy is another monster. Might be a lot more.

Value Buy-do the police believe the murders occured all around the same time or over a period of time. I hesrd the bodies were found in abandoned houses assuming no one would find the bodies until much later. Tenn, as of now four are still not identified. Police believe the first victim was early this year, and only one, maybe two victims had missing persons reports filed on them. This guy did attack his girlfriend (locally) a year or so ago, but did not get jail time for it.
I do remember a body was found in a garage one or two months ago they were trying to identify, badly decomposed, but never saw an article whether she was identified, or now was listed as one of his victims
Unfortunately, it looks like the women were either prostitutes, or escorts, and Chicago news reports say he preyed on these types. It is reported he chose abandoned homes for disposal sites, as he felt they would not be discovered. No one is saying why he left the last victim in the motel bath tub, rather than dispose of the body at this time. WMAQ NBC affiliate reported he went across the street to an elderly neighbor woman, a few weeks ago, and asked to borrow a shovel and hammer, as he had raccoons in his house. He returned it a week later. Another neighbor said he seemed nice, was quiet, and lived with a brother, and he said "I thought I knew him, but obviously, I didn't. NBC said he was listed as a sex offender in Indiana as well as Texas, so agencies should have had him in the system.
I am wondering as easily he is talking to the authorities, he wanted to get this over with. News agencies are saying there might be victims up to twenty years ago.

How sad for the women no one was looking for most of them. Thanks for the info.

How sad for the women no one was looking for most of them. Thanks for the info. Based on some family or friends now coming forward, some knew they were missing. I am assuming based on the families knowing what they were doing, they thought maybe they had moved to another city, or did not want police checking into their past. Just an opinion on my part......but we know this is a common occurrence in this type of circumstance.

The girl had arranged for someone to text her, and he received the texts and responded suspiciously while still in the hotel room with her body. So her friends got the weird texts and then went to the hotel room before he could dispose of her. Its a shame that her precautions weren't enough to save her, but at least they prevented future victims.
