What a beautiful little creature! It looks like it has blue eyes! I'm so glad it's found a loving home.

The eyes look human with eye makeup on them.

Tiny little thing.

Just sitting here and heard a big thump on the window. Went out to see if one of the crazy baby birds hit it and there he was stuck in the crack between the house and deck. Picked him up and looked him over. Nothing looked broken so just cupped him in my hands, said a little bird prayer and in a few minutes he flew into the lilac bush. He sat there a few more minutes and now he's gone. He pooped on me twice.

Last night the huge duck family came past and I counted 24 babies. Fed them 2 bags of bread and it was hysterical, like little piranhas running on water.

Not so good fauna but dang! Bridge closed for 2nd night over swarms of mayflies, crashes WRIGHTSVILLE, Pa. — Authorities say a Pennsylvania bridge has been closed for a second straight night because of swarms of mayflies so thick that they caused accidents. Wrightsville fire officials say the Route 462 bridge over the Susquehanna (suhs-kwuh-HAN'-uh) River between Columbia and Wrightsville was closed Sunday night. Chief Chad Livelsberger says a vehicle slowing because of the insects caused a crash, though he doesn't believe anyone was seriously hurt. The bridge was also closed Saturday night after three motorcycle crashes attributed to the flies. Bridge closed for 2nd night over swarms of mayflies, crashes

Was just driving through town. TOWN! And almost didn't stop in time to not hit a bear. I stopped but he crossed and was hit by traffic going the other way. Stunned and rolled but up in like a minute and headed on through them the other side of to town

No. Not at all. Out in the country some times. He was so obviously running scared.

The hummingbirds are still here.
I think they were gone on the first day of fall last year.
They are drinking from mostly tobacco flowers and petunias.
They would not touch these when the bee balm was blooming but seem happy with them now.

The latest I ever saw a hummingbird dining at one of my plants was October 31. I am thinking a late nesting and hatching and that one was a straggler.

Not sure why they haven't left here yet. There is still food here and the weather mild but I thought the shorter days was what got them moving.

For several years in the early 1990s, I spent Christmas with my former boss in the San Francisco area. She owned a condo and I stayed there. She had some flower pots hanging on her balcony railing. Humming birds would visit the flowers on the balcony. Now San Francisco is a bit warmer than where you are in the winter, but the hummingbirds there stay year-round. I checked it out and the hummingbirds in your area maybe the Anna's hummingbird species (all along the west coast). Our hummingbirds are the ruby-throated species and can be found in central and eastern U.S. and Canada.

I have been told that only the females and young are still here and the males have already left. Anna's have been seen around here passing through by some but are not common. I'm glad they are still here.

I don't know how their numbers fared around North America this summer and early fall, but I have been seeing more than the usual number of monarch butterflies. I just saw five of them in my small front yard flower bed dining on the zinnias, Mexican sunflower, and the tropical milkweed. And I am still seeing monarch caterpillars too. .
Also getting plenty of tropical milkweed seeds for next spring. Good crop this year.

I was at the Botanical Gardens not too long ago, and there were ducks at the water gardens. I fed them the remains of my sandwich, after which they came up and checked my pockets and purse for more. Absolutely fearless.
