Preparing for Christmas I came on one of my favorite pictures ever. My boys are 5 1/2 years and 18 months old here and they obviously had very different ideas on whether a visit with Santa was a good idea. And from the look on Santa's face - he had yet a third opinion.

Milee, LOVED the photo!
This is a bit off-topic, but you know about NORAD tracks Santa, right? Your kids are probably too big now, but it used to be a great help in getting them to finally go to bed since Santa couldn't come until they did LOL.

Look at those booties on your son!
Such a great picture, I'm not brave enough to try it with my two .

\ He wouldn't wear shoes. Those Robeez type bootie things were the only thing he'd keep on his feet without pulling off, so even though they were dorky as heck and probably hotter than Hades, that's about all he wore. Little booger.

I just LOVE pictures of kids screaming on Santa's lap. Really I do. Think they are funny.
I know I have pictures of all of my kids at some point screaming on Santa's lap.

I just LOVE pictures of kids screaming on Santa's lap. Really I do. Think they are funny. Honestly if I knew the little guy would get so freaked out, I wouldn't have put him on Santa's lap. The little guy was such a mellow, happy, friendly kid that nothing ever phased him. Even standing in line to see Santa, he was bright and cheerful. It wasn't until the second he hit Santa's knee that he broke out in hysterics. Caught me totally off guard. Partly because normally the older kid could be such a booger, I was keeping an eye on him without worrying much about the little booger. Ooops.
From the look on Santa's face, I'm guessing my guy wasn't the first screamer he had to deal with.

You're absolutely going to have to pull this one out at their wedding rehearsal dinners.

Such a classic. Maybe I should reconsider having Babybird visit Santa this year.
A couple months ago DH, SIL and I (in a stunning lapse of communal judgment) took our 3 kids to Virginia City, a 4.5 hour drive away. With just older DN, it would have been a great trip. But with the younger two, it was an unmitigated disaster. We left early Saturday morning and by Sunday afternoon when we were leaving, I was honestly not sure we'd make it home alive.
Anyway, the ONE thing that older DN asked to do there was get one of those "Old Western" photos taken. So even though Babybird and Babyniece were rotating tantrums like pro tag team wrestlers, we tried to accommodate DN.
Babybird wasn't interested but Babyniece INSISTED on being in the photo. Only problem? She was freaking hysterical. Wouldn't settle down, wouldn't stop crying, wouldn't get into her costume, etc.
One of the sets was a jail and we joked that we should wait until Babybird inevitably started crying again, and put both of the little girls in it. I kind of wish we'd done it (I think we might have if we weren't so fried at that point) because it would be the perfect visual accompaniment of this story. Oh well.
(The eventual photo with just SIL and DN was actually really cute.)

Cute, cute, cute!
Do you get photos of your pets with Santa? (I've thought about it, but have never done it.)

I'd heard legends that professional Santa Clauses can make $60k a season. But given what they have to deal with, I wonder whether that is ample compensation.

milee, you start preparing for Christmas in October? What does that entail? There's a guy around here who does a full on winter wonderland in his humongous backyard. He really goes all out. I can't even describe the complexity of the sets and scenes he builds. It's really amazing to see. They start preparing in June!

milee, you start preparing for Christmas in October? No. I'm nowhere near that organized. I was pulling out pictures to send to my sister and we were laughing about the memory of that fateful, traumatic Christmas long ago...
I enjoy Christmas, but every year it seems to get more and more complicated and a little less enjoyable simply because it's so hectic. I kind of wish we could go back to when the Christmas season was much shorter - the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas eve. Now, it seems to start gearing up in October. The younger sons' teacher asked if I'd volunteer to set up a Gingerbread house decorating project and I'm already spending hours on that silly thing. And it's not even Halloween! Sheesh.

Just in case you hadn't thought of it, graham crackers are much less hassle (and less expensive) than trying to do ginger bread if it's for a lot of kids. Cute picture
