I hate it as well. I thought the sections with headlines was perfect for scanning and browsing for anything interesting. I tend to ignore pictures.
My mom's computer was using Internet Explorer until it changed recently as well. I switched it to Google Chrome when I couldn't find a stupid back button. Bah-bye!

I just found another site though.
Which one? I trying Google News right now. There is a drop down box beside which edition (country) and I clicked on "headlines." I liked that format better and it has a side bar with other selections you can click on including local news. But that's just a personal preference after checking out all the choices. But I have noticed sometime when I go to it the side bar isn't there (it retains the headlines setting) but I just click headlines again and side bar appears. I haven't made it my home page I just have shortcut on my desktop along with dozens more

Can I chime in on Windows 8? Hate it. I hate it. Oh, I really hate it.
I can't take Windows 8 (Sung to I can't drive 55) I hated Windows 8 so much that I bought a Mac. I was underwhelmed by 8.1. ETA: Today is the first time I saw the new MSN. And no, I don't like it. I think this is the first time I've been back since they dumped us.

I haven't liked it since they changed their email. I have 4 email addresses: 1-Hotmail/2-msn/2-live. Time was I could switch between them on the same site, now I have to either enter 4 different user names and passwords or use their other one that resides up by the little house at the top of the page on the right.
And I totally agree about the videos.....knock 'em off!! I keep my sound off for a reason, just let me read the article in peace, preferably with no ads to sit through.

And I am thinking the reason so many of us hate it is that we are readers not watchers. You're probably right about that. I read while I watch TV. So maybe I should get a book when I click on MSN. But I don't have to much of an attention span for TV so videos online for the news won't hold my attention. I just found another site though. Noname What site?
i HATE it too and I will never wait for a video to load - tkaes forever w/my ISP.
NOTE: I am a reader, watching tv, in between cooking steps, waiting for stuff to load...........Good thing my library is VERY good.

See my post #33. I just have Google News as my source right now. So far Ok with it. Oh should add that I did try Yahoo news but sticking with Google News right now. ETA: The is a round "button" that you can click on also to personalize your page if that helps any.

I for one hate it. I thought that the old format had information laid out in a clear, concise manner that my brain could easily process. Now, it's mainly pictures, pictures, pictures. ("Gee maw, lookit the purdy colors. DA-HURRR!!") And am I part of a dying breed that would still rather read a news article than watch a stupid video about it? Does everything have to be in stupid video format nowadays? *waves cane. keels over*Anyways, msn is now like the USA Today of websites, designed for the lowest common denominator. Enter The Dumbening. I agree with you, the new format is terrible...its just another reformat so that iphone/ipad dipshits can scan through the pages easier. Little do they know, though, that they are getting sub standard information compared to what it used to be.

When my wife and I went on the web, we chose MSN and kept it basically because of our web address. Didn't want to go thru the hassle of a new web address after all those years. Even before they switched to their new improved site, they warned us. Asked us to check out their site and look around for a month before they put it in place. I checked it, and in the corner it asked for a response on our thoughts about it. I responded. Hated it. They basically just copied so many other gossip site web pages, and I told them they were idiots. I did use their money/business site to maintain a web collection of our stocks and investment portfolio, and keeping a quarterly update of all new investments and dividend re-investments. Told them in the new site we were unable to follow daily flow of stocks, and unless you were a day trader, the site was useless as compared to the old site. I could transfer the old listings over to the new site, but not years of data showing costs of investments, giving me cost basis, etc. Even now, sometimes the mutual funds do not get updated until the next day, giving you an inaccurate account balance, and sometimes showing a daily gain instead of thousands of dollars "lost" due to dow falling 300 points, and account balance does not reflect the loss in mutual funds. Naturally when they moved to their new site, I lost all the data other than the entire holdings that were switched over. Told them they were idiots again I have been spending a week rebuilding my portfolio spreadsheet on the non web connected computer doing all the quarterly numbers thru all the paper reports we have stored.
Never even got a response from them. They are idiots

I tried Yahoo news before I settled on Google news. I like the Yahoo look better, but their ads looked too similar to news stories so I found myself clicking on ads by mistake.

Put me in the 'hate it' camp too, as well as one who likes to read their news, not watch it. I've been using netvibes for news, but I might check out google news too.
One thing I DO like about the new msn page is that you can delete sections you don't want (SPORTS!!) entirely, or move ones you want up the page.

...:::"Can we all majority of people who hates it let them know?":::... tloonya is spot on -- use the feedback button and let them know. If enough people complain, they may revert back. While investigating the demise of autos.msn.com I found threads on M$'s site from others lamenting the loss. A community moderator told respondents to use the feedback button and let M$ know. So please, do it! An angle I hadn't considered, but it brings back memories of the old boards closure: its all about money. It costs money to provide reliability ratings and obtain and organize meaningful data. I guess they just weren't making enough from ads or referrals to keep providing it. So for autos, it looks like they basically sold the domain to motor trend. If readership plummets, they may seriously consider bringing the original back.

I hate it as well. The "Money" section is a complete disaster - prior to the "improvements," you could see the value of a given stock at almost any point in time - gone!
This "new" format is either the product of a committee (akin to seven blind men trying to describe an elephant) or some "senior manager" trying to make a name for themselves.
Either way it stinks and you can take it to the bank there will be NO remedial action taken, nor will they EVER post a tally of the input from users (out of embarrassment most likely).
In summation.....

I have never really paid enough attention to make a good assessment either way. Normally I just zoom by it unless a headline catches my eye.
The overall journalistic quality isn't that great though, I don't think it's gotten any better since the new format came out.
Opinion pieces disguised as news articles, using social media as their primary source, "journalists" trolling the comment sections of their own articles looking for leads. misspellings and grammatical errors, it's all still there.

Yes, use the feedback button and "rate" the site. Send them a link to this thread as well. Like I've said, they won't change a thing but at least you can get it off your chest and then move on to another place.....

Hahahha, I'm not sure we should alert them to our existence -- they might have a problem with our name.
Rest assured there are many threads on their own site about the negative impact of the change. I'm not sure just how much feedback it will take. For MSN, they get an artificial hit every time someone signs out of hotmail. But for the other sites (autos), I'm not going to visit anymore. If half the former viewership migrates elsewhere, who knows what the impact would be.

Maybe I should change my homepage too.
Scrolling through the pictures, half of the "news articles" are dumb celebrity pieces.
Such insightful news stories as "Hair today, gone tomorrow, how did these bald stars look with hair," and "can you guess how much these stars weigh?"
Oh man, I'm just DYING to read that stuff.

This makes me think it is even more about cost avoidance. Like the autos data, I bet that financial data cost more to provide than they were seeing a return from.
I won't begrudge them the ability to run a profitable site. Gossip pieces by "contributors" (not worthy of the title of "journalist") are probably far less expensive than meaningful analysis and thorough research tools.
Sometimes I ponder how profitable it is to provide a low-end product to a bottom feeding audience. Bottom feeders have money to spend too.

I don't care for it. The pictures don't add anything even though they are not necessarily videos. They just take up space and make it look bad. On the bright side, I did remove about five sections so they no longer show, and the one thing that I do use (TV Listings under the Entertainment tab) is vastly improved from what it was before.

I find videos to be painfully slow. I can read the article far more quickly than wait for the video to load and listen to the babbling that precedes finally showing what it is you are interested in seeing.

I'm another who doesn't like videos. If the subject is something that really interests me, I'll do a search on it and find a text version. I wonder if the videos are popular with the sites because they can sell commercials at the beginning and people have pretty much learned to ignore banner ads. I've also noticed when I do check Internet news portals that so much of the "news" is telling me what to buy. Thirteen must-have beauty buys. Movies. Secrets of shopping in Costco. Unforgettable travel destinations. You click on those and they have a VERY specialized audience, the better to "serve" you with more ads.
In general, I don't follow Internet news sites. I read the paper (yeah, I'm up there with Bob Ross waving my cane) and also follow BBC and French and German news podcasts. The French and German are videos but I watch them when I'm working out and they have no commercials and a lot more substance.
BTW, this reminded me to look for "Bundle", the great alternative Web site that was supposed to be the next incarnation of MSNMoney.com. It's gone- if you read between the lines, they sold their data to CapitalOne.

I was a paper reader too plus internet. But they cut our paper to 3 days a week so you can imagine how old the news is by then so stopped service. I do check out sites other than msn/google news though. Heck just read the threads on this board and the annointed ones will tell you all you need to know about the world

MSN is really going to hell in a hand basket.
I'll stick to Google as my homepage. It's plain & simple, and clean-looking without all the added gobbledy-gook.
I can look up any local news online - or anything else in the world for that matter, through the Google homepage - without all the added crapola that MSN has decided is "necessary" for me.

Count me in as one who would prefer to read the news instead of watching a video.
MSN feels cluttered to me.
