I don't wonder why you criticize near as much as I wonder why you never seem to have any desire to say something good, or bring an article showing policemen as the human beings they are, OldCoyote. Here's one for you to ponder: John A. Vescio went to bed a hero last Tuesday. Frightening surveillance footage captured in White Plains, New York, shows a car careening into a gas pump at a Mobil station. Moments later, the pump and two cars around it are engulfed in flames. Police say the incident happened around 11 a.m. last Tuesday, but the footage was released on Friday, according to CBS New York. The driver who crashed his car was an elderly man who investigators say was in diabetic shock, The Journal News reported. Fortunately for him, an off-duty state police officer was in the station pumping gas at the time. Vescio, who is a New York State Police senior investigator, managed to run away just as the fire erupted. In the video above, he can be seen quickly returning to the scene to rescue the elderly man. Despite being injured by a gas pump that fell on him as he made his escape, Vescio opened the man's car door and dragged him to safety. He also warned people to stay back from his vehicle, which had live ammunition in the trunk. "It happened so quick," Vescio told The Journal News. "It was hard to think. I pretty much just reacted." Vescio and the driver escaped with minor injuries. HuffPo

I don't wonder at all- they need to be criticized. Read this one the other day:
www.theindychannel.com/news/u-s-world/ohio-police-k-9-handler-issues-apology-after-dog-dies-in-hot-car
A K-9 handler with an Ohio police department apologized Tuesday after his dog died from an apparent heat stroke when it was left inside a cruiser
Harrison left his 2-year-old K-9 partner, Beny, in the cruiser and failed to leave the windows open. The car was turned off.
More than four hours later, Harrison returned to the cruiser and discovered the dog lying lifeless in his rear passenger compartment's kennel.
Meanwhile when a regular citizen does this they are arrested.
wtnh.com/2014/09/04/couple-arrested-for-leaving-dog-in-hot-car/
A husband and wife are now facing charges of cruelty to animals, after they allegedly left their dog locked inside a hot car. This happened Monday, Labor Day, at 12pm, when temperatures were very high. The couple was inside a store at the Stop & Shop Plaza, while the dog was left inside the car. The windows were cracked, but police say it was still hot inside the vehicle. The dog was not hurt.
The police in this country need to have their leash pulled back- no pun intended.

Good morning mmhmm, This off duty officer did nothing that many regular citizens would done.
You are right in the fact that I post mostly negative stuff about police and government.
let me explain part of my "jaded view". Because of the power that police and government employees have, I do hold them to a higher standard.
Honesty and ethics in law enforcement and government, do you really believe we get what we pay for.
Immunity, I understand the need for this, because of this when mistakes are made there is a need for an open and honesty statement of the facts. Not a delay, " this is under investigation"
which is only a delay for memories to fade, lessen the public out cry, to only protect am member of the "brotherhood of blue".
Yes I know police have a dangerous job, They knew that when they took the job. They are well paid. Convenience store clerks, bartenders, taxi drivers deal with same people that the police do.
I know that many believe that the police can do no wrong. when thing are really wrong, It need to be taken care of.
It is the extreme double standard that I complain about.

Next question, Am I the only one here that has a problem with the police raiding the wrong house, shooting the dog.
Did not step up to help the dog when the mistake was made?

I'm not one who believes the police can do no wrong. Police are human beings, just like you, and I. I can do wrong and you can do wrong. We can extrapolate that to realize police can do wrong, too. Just as when you or I do wrong we deserve to pay whatever price is associated with what we chose to do, the same would naturally apply to police. Personally, I've never had a problem with police. All I've had contact with have been nice, they've done their jobs, and I've appreciated them. They are NOT well paid considering the job they do and the risks they take, IMO. I disagree you complain about the double standard alone. You complain every chance you get. You go looking for reasons to complain. You've put a target on law enforcement, IMO.

Great story, eh? I'd read it before. There are wonderful people out there and we need to realize what one does for a living doesn't define one. The media likes to dwell on the negative and the sensational. It's what their audience, apparently, wants. I'll take ten stories like this one, thanks, because I know these are the folks I've met and dealt with. Thanks for posting it!

One must also realize that "news reports" are always slanted at "bad is good" because bad news sells papers... good news doesn't. So you likely ARE more prone to find stories about bad cops than you are about good cops... even though there are loads more good cops than bad ones. A cop doing his job (and doing it well) isn't "newsworthy".
