Saw this- and the guy called 911 asking for a supervisor- the main problem is that this started out as a seatbelt violation!
The man was not even driving! I don't blame the man for calling 911 not trusting the police- having your ass yanked out of a car, having glass shattered on children is an appropriate response for not wearing a seatbelt?! Hope both of these assholes are fired and sued!
And let me clarify one point on stop and identify- the defense idiot posters are throwing out- there is no freaking law requiring citizens to carry papers. "My name is Bob Jones" satisfies the law.
Time to reign in these POS cops that think they are above the law. Although I would not recommend the statement without a camera- they work for us. They have no power other than what we give them. In this case time to fire a couple of knuckleheads

The police should have just given the driver the seat belt ticket and been done with it.

Yes he was the passenger. He is not required to have ID or papers . Do you walk you dog and carry ID ? I don't. Ridiculous.

So refusing to get out of a car is ok to do to the cops? So next time I just refuse their request, they didn't know him, they don't know me. They could have turned around and walked away and he shot them, its dangerous being a cop. I imagine they have adrenalin running at high all the time as they don't know what they are walking in to. I don't know where you draw the line. Was it ok to break out the window?? Maybe not, but was it ok for him to refuse their instructions, maybe not right either.
I don't know how you do this in a manner that makes both in the right. Soon we are going to persecute cops till we won't have any. It is only dangerous being a cop when you are abusing your power. And it is not required by law that you have to get out of your car. In fact there are many educational videos that explain why you shouldn't. I hope they pay through the nose.

They have now figured out why he wouldn't get out of the car. There was a warrant out for him and he didn't want them to check on him.
Oh yeah, poor innocent fellow. Where does it say (in the article linked) there was a warrant out?? It said he'd gotten a ticket, which is hugely different. And regardless, they went too far.

Oh yeah, poor innocent fellow. Who is 'they' ? The same people reporting on the orbital blowout fracture in Ferguson?
And how is it relevant to what happened? Sounds like the same old stale attack the victim bullshit.
But to explain what you read- this is what actually happened:
www.cbsnews.com/news/attorney-warrant-issued-for-jamal-jones-indiana-man-tased-during-traffic-stop/
HAMMOND, Ind. - A warrant was issued Thursday for the arrest of a man who filed a federal lawsuit earlier this week accusing Hammond, Ind. police officers of excessive force during a traffic stop in which officers broke a car window and deployed a stun gun on him, his lawyer says.
Dana Kurtz, who represents Jamal Jones, issued a statement Thursday saying the warrant "is clearly retaliation" against her client.
Kurtz says the warrant was issued for a misdemeanor marijuana charge seven years ago and that Jones "was unaware of the warrant but will comply with the law."
Well at least we all know who to look out for when it comes to supporting the government jailing citizens.

It gets better people. The female driver had been stopped for speeding a few years ago down I-65 by Indiana state police. She had three children in the back seat with her. She was also transporting cocaine from Chicago to Kentucky. She served a term for transportation and child endangerment. Oh and her reason for transporting the drugs? She was trying to get her boyfriend out of jail and claimed she was working with the police to bust the Chicago drug source, and deliver the drugs to score points for her boyfriend and the police. Evidently at trial that argument got her no where.
Yes, I admit, this has nothing to do with the stop, but I bet if Bills was the cop and after spending 11 minutes trying to get them to cooperate with their requests, even he might take the shortcut and break the window.

And for crying out loud, if we do not want police enforcing "petty laws" like seatbelt violations, do not pass the laws. And tell the Feds to strike the seatbelt law too. That way stupid people do not get stopped.
Never did hear whether her mother actually died in the hospital. That was the original statement she made for the reason they were in a hurry and no seat belts. Her mother was dyng and she had to get to the hospital....

So link that please- and even if she was a crazy nut how does this matter when it comes to a passenger that did nothing other than leave off a seatbelt?
I get it- attack the victim.
Doesn't both you at all that in the last two weeks one cop shattered glass onto children over a SEATBELT VIOLATION, and another cop shot a man reaching for a wallet for a SEATBELT VIOLATION!?!?
Do we not have enough of a police state for you?
Funny- anti-government Republicans would have been on this like white on rice but since it was a black guy........They hate the government until it shoots 'thugs'.

It doesn't work anyway- plenty of cases of family members stopped on the way to the hospital.
And second- the driver is not the issue- it is a passenger- a citizen- that only has to provide one answer- my name is X- and good enough case over.

Funny- anti-government Republicans would have been on this like white on rice but since it was a black guy........They hate the government until it shoots 'thugs'. If this is addressed to me, please go and re-read my two posts. And all the glass over the children? He was to busy taping the incident to be worried. It is all safety glass that will not harm you. Other than that, go back and read my posts. I said get rid of the petty laws, and it goes for the federal law too. I also stated the women's arrest did not make this stop and procedure ok.
Northwest Indiana has lost two policeman to shootings this year, so I am not surprised to see police being a little on the skittish side of things. We have had other incidents with white drivers being stopped and tasered after traffic stops. Absolutly no lawyer headlines crying police brutality, but then again the motorists were arrested for physical attacks of the police officers, dragging policeman with their cars etc...... but only after the initial stop.
Another thing We are next door to Chicago and Jesse Jackson. He has not been around to protest anything. All he has to do is drive 35 miles southeast of his headquarters. Evidently Jesse does not see any problem here, and he has stuck his nose is smaller events than this one. We have not had any big demonstrations in the streets. Oh, the NAACP has demanded the officers be put on desk duty, but I am not sure that has even happened.

If ordered from the car, and it is a lawful command, the person is supposed to get out of the car. This was stated by state authorities the next day or so from Indianapolis authorities.
He knew he has an outstanding warrant out on him.

A dying person does not make that claim. The hospital does. It was the driver who made that claim to the police when she was stopped. I said I never knew whether she died or not. As far as her previous jail time, this goes to police making a stop and what may or may not happen. They never know what they are walking into. She has been proven to be a liar in her trial, so I am not sure we should swallow her claims whole
