Our gas stations aren't like that. I can usually park right by the door and be in and out in a minute or two. Half the time I just hand my debit card to DS and send him in. Wawa is a wonderland of gas, relatively good food, and clean rest rooms. And crowded, lol. And don't forget that here in NJ they pump the gas for you too!

archie - no, not unless it's subdivided, as stated. IMHO, then it kind of sucks as a recipe organization tool. Impossible to search. Impossible? Or just takes a few extra seconds? :-p

How well it works depends on terms in the pin description. But I do agree that pinterest would be better if you could order your pins, rather than having them just chronological.

I stop at the convenience store to buy milk and bread all the time. It's about $1 more there and on the way home from work and soccer games. Well worth the money instead of driving out of my way to the grocery store on the other end of town. That makes sense. My grocery store is right next to a cluster of 3 gas stations, and that is the intersection I go through to get pretty much anywhere. Actually, 1 of the gas stations is owned by and run by the grocery store, but it isn't on the corner, so not as convenient. There's also a Walmart across from my grocery store, but I rarely go there. The dollar store is also pretty close to my house, but the opposite direction from where I head 99% of the time. And, I've gotten kind of picky with my milk and bread choices in my old age, but that's another thread...maybe I'll check out the grocery store's gas station to see if they carry my bread. I can live without the organic milk as long as its the store's brand.

Like quinoa or whatever and it should find that. I think it's probably harder if you are sharing a pinterest board - I vaguely remember everything I pinned and use it more for inspiration than as a true online cookbook so to speak.

Only available in certain markets. Try Safeway, they also have a delivery service. Prices are reasonable. Obviously it's a little more difficult to comparison shop and you don't get to pick the produce piece you want, but I've found it to definitely be acceptable and worth it. I even ordered ice cream and it came in a box with dry ice! That was impressive. Oh, we don't have safeways. I searched the websites of the grocery stores in my area and it does not appear any do pick up or delivery orders. Peapod is not in my area. I used to do CSA drop-offs, but that wasn't the same as "groceries" as it was only a small box of locally grown foods. There is one company that delivers groceries, but they are all organic and really expensive. Plus, it's not home delivery, but a pick-up night at a location during a 3 hour window of time. Their mission is saving time and eating healthy- not saving money and I want to save time and money. I don't mind paying a reasonable delivery or pick-up fee, but I don't want to pay a premium for the groceries too. Another option is Amazon Pantry. I haven't tried it, since I already get groceries delivered I don't see the advantage. But it is only for non-perishable type food, cereal, peanut butter, shampoo, etc. The only advantage I see over regular amazon orders or subscribe & save is that the orders aren't bulk, but then I don't think you get the savings you get with the bulk orders. And then you still have to shop for all perishables, which is most of what I buy anyway. IDK, I'm curious if this program will really take off, but maybe it would be worth it for you.

With as much milk as we go through, we use almost no bread. I can normally get one loaf and one double package of those whole wheat rounds and we're good for the month. Younger son is really anti-bread and older son makes wraps all the time for lunch, so I get a lot of tortillas.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, this is close to my budget. It's really not a budget so to speak, it's more like an allocation of where the money goes. The discretionary funding is really a catch all. It probably includes diapers and stuff for my kid, my hobbies, clothing, etc. His might include flights to see his kids, medical copays for them, etc. I don't really want too much criticism, lol, but I just thought I'd put it out there. At the end of the year I take some of the extra and put it in college funds, other taxable accounts, etc. poofed

This is a very interesting thread in that it has taught me that I suck at being a European (even though my passport says I am one). I have never in my life gone to the grocery store daily - nor has my mother as far back as I can remember. maybe that means I am genetically challenged. Once a week is my absolut maximum (even when the kids lived at home and ate like locust) and if I can get away with it I go every other week. I just need to buy enouugh fresh fruit to last me that long

You start making a couple sandwiches, the bread starts to go down very quickly-- and the cheese, cold cuts, condiments.

She used to, anyway, now she has realized what a pita it is for me. Just last Saturday, she wanted me to run and buy her sauerkraut, of all things! ETA: I feel like I should add, to better illustrate-- when I was growing up, my mom would regularly shop at 4 different local grocery stores, plus make a weekly trip to the bakery. Certain stores had better meat/bread/deals. Yes, she was a SAHM for the most part.

Total 14350 Honestly I don't see anything out of line. Most of these costs would be similar for someone making $70K. You just have a large discretionary fund and a big house & as a result higher costs associated with the house. As long as you are saving, then why not. A far cry from our sample budget showing how easy it is to be broke on 400K, while spending outrageous amounts of money in every category.

When we lived in Europe (Bonn) 1x per week all that I could handle. Although about mid week DH would stop into a local market on his walk home from work and pick up a liter of milk.

But at best I could halve the cost, but part of the house is a good commute, good schools, etc. So it's worth more than meets the eye in some regards. My commute is ~6 miles and takes <15 minutes. That's pretty much unheard of in Seattle.

ditto. I intend to sign up for Prime when I buy my next place in order to bulk purchase cleaning stuff (I had no idea this was an option until pretty recently either!) and would totally order non-perishables in bulk too. canned goods, pastas, that sort of thing. and I'm one of those single people that wanders WF a few times a week when I head over to pick up lunch from the hot/soup bar. until I started not replacing my stockpiles after listing my house this spring, I would bulk shop meats and non-perishables on sale/with coupons, freezing the meats. I'd then hit up the grocery store as often as needed to fill in whatever was missing for what I wanted to cook that night for dinner. but then again, the closest grocery store is in walking distance to my house. if I were as busy as some of y'all, I'd be going once a week tops. FWIW, what I remember from my days as a cashier back in HS - Tuesday nights and first thing Saturday morning were always the easiest times to get in and out of the store. hopefully that helps some of you I had no idea! I already have prime. I popped on to see about our cleaning supplies, one had a discount for auto-order. Do you know how that works? no idea, sorry just seeing this now. was offline for the day after I posted what you quoted. hopefully someone's answered you by now.

Auto order? Do you mean Subscribe and Save? yes I put somethings into my cart - then I got this "pantry box" message with a shipping charge - does that mean that the prime free shipping is not applicable? I didn't see that the prices were so great. Pantry is a program where you fill a box and it costs 5.99 to ship. Prime doesn't apply and it takes 4-6 days to arrive (but I think you have to be prime to be eligible for pantry). I honestly don't understand who might use that program. Seems costly and slow.

I guess Pantry is NOT Subscribe and Save. I use Subscribe and save. Every month I get a shipment near the first with that months supplies. It ships Prime.
Ive never looked at Pantry? Maybe it's only certain locations? Like Fresh?

I could never think of anything I needed shipped to me on a monthly basis. I thought about it back in the diaper days, but Target ones were so much cheaper.

Where my sister lives there is one grocery type store within a decent driving distance. No competition. The prices on some items (like comet, soft scrub, etc) are stupid high and half the time they don't have what she wants in stock. Something like this might be good for her. Of course, she usually gives me a shopping list before I go to visit and she gets it "imported" for free...

I don't get the same things every month. Well, i get dog food, raw cashews every month, the rest changes. You can do every 1-6 months. And you can always skip an order month, or move one up if needed.

Maybe it's only certain locations? Like Fresh? No - I got put into it with only cleaning supplies. maybe I'll check into subscribe and save more as that did come with a discount, and another good use for amazon prime - but I didn't see that all my items had that option. Subscribe & Save tends to be more for bulk items. Search for toilet paper & you will see some examples. Most 48 packs are eligible for subscribe & save. Most 12 packs & lower are either prime or pantry (but never both). It seems that pantry items are generally cheaper, but since they are all different brands & I am not am expert on TP, I can't really say for sure. I think the idea is that pantry is cheaper since you ship a whole bunch of items together & pay for shipping. So cleaning supplies you may have to get bulk. Like I get the automatic shower cleaner subscribe & save - it comes as a 6 pack. But, I can get it delivered every 6 months & have room for storage, so no big deal.

Ok, because I am avoiding work I did an analysis of a single item. Scrubbing bubbles automatic shower cleaner: - One via Pantry - $3.90 (takes 5% of your box, so consider 5% of shipping adds $0.30 if you fill your box) - One via Prime - $11.95 - Two via Prime - $16.72 ($8.36 each) - Six via subscribe & save - $32.46 with 20% discount ($5.41 each)
HOWEVER, I had to check my previous order because $32.46 made me go - on September 13th I got the same item via subscribe & save for $16.73 ($2.79 each) - on March 10th I also got this item for $16.73
I have noticed prices jump around a lot with subscribe & save, so you do need to check you order every month a day or two before it finalizes so you don't get screwed. Getting the 6 for $16.73 is a good deal, getting the same order for $32.46 isn't so mucha a good deal. I have skipped items occassionally due to the price jumps & then usually they drop back down later. I am guessing it is due to supply, they up the price
And one last comparison: - Walmart has the two pack for $6.97 ($3.48 each)
So the only pricing that actually beat walmart was the subscribe & save available last month & 7 months ago, which isn't even currently available.

Yes, you do have to monitor for price jumps. I will skip if there is one and generally they go back down again.
For or me though it's also convenience. While most of the stuff I buy I can't get locally, the dog food is because I live half an hour from a store that carries my brand, and the kids generally tell me they are out the day they have to feed them a pond ta da, no food. Since 5 bags started coming the first week of the month, I don't think there has been one 'emergency' .

I don't know if you or anyone else here has looked at Staples or the other large office supply box stores sites but i almost always get my paper goods and cleaning supplies from Staples. I use Staples member rewards and get free shipping and turn in our empty ink cartritages every month. I then use those rewards to "pay" for my toilet paper type stuff. They almost always have a break room coupon for a small percent too on their site. Plus I normally try and look to see what is on sale. I know everyone on YM hates coupons, but whats not to love about $40 worth of household goods shipped to my house for free every month?

But how many cartridges=$40 worth of "free" a month? I have plus member rewards, which is rewards members who spend over $500 a year there, which is 20 ink carts a month. regular rewards membership is 10 a month. There are other things that also generate rewards but that is the simplest. Plus and premier members also get free shipping. ETA there is also the requirement that you spend $35 every six months on printer ink to be allowed to get the ink carts recycleing rewards. That is rarely a problem for us!
