What's this about ordering groceries on Amazon? How do I get in on that and are groceries priced comparatively? Count me among the "over-worked Americans with bills to pay, competing priorities and kids to feed". My prime membership is pretty much going unused.

I intend to sign up for Prime when I buy my next place in order to bulk purchase cleaning stuff (I had no idea this was an option until pretty recently either!) and would totally order non-perishables in bulk too. canned goods, pastas, that sort of thing. and I'm one of those single people that wanders WF a few times a week when I head over to pick up lunch from the hot/soup bar. until I started not replacing my stockpiles after listing my house this spring, I would bulk shop meats and non-perishables on sale/with coupons, freezing the meats. I'd then hit up the grocery store as often as needed to fill in whatever was missing for what I wanted to cook that night for dinner. but then again, the closest grocery store is in walking distance to my house. if I were as busy as some of y'all, I'd be going once a week tops. FWIW, what I remember from my days as a cashier back in HS - Tuesday nights and first thing Saturday morning were always the easiest times to get in and out of the store. hopefully that helps some of you ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Amazon Fresh I think is only in Seattle & LA? right now. It looks awesome. Personally I use Kroger for delivery & love it. Safeway delivers in some areas as well. I had a delivery Saturday. Got up at my normal time, spent 15 minutes on my iPad putting together the order. They brought it at 5 PM & carried it all into my kitchen for me. Freaking awesome & don't have to drag 3 youngs kids around a store on a weekend.

I don't understand--how you can grocery shop once a month or so, but still stop in for bread, fresh fruits and veggies and milk, but that doesn't count as grocery shopping?? You do realize that is what people are getting when they grocery shop more often, right? And you do realize that these trips are much shorter when they are more frequent, right? I think that most of the time savings by going less often is in driving back and forth and checking out less often. Same amount of stuff, overall though.
That said, I would love to learn how to plan better and go less often. Do you freeze a lot? Do you have a standard shopping list that you use?

Try Safeway, they also have a delivery service. Prices are reasonable. Obviously it's a little more difficult to comparison shop and you don't get to pick the produce piece you want, but I've found it to definitely be acceptable and worth it. I even ordered ice cream and it came in a box with dry ice! That was impressive.

You can call it grocery shopping if you want, but if I can get in & out in less than 5 minutes, then is a whole different experience than shopping in a large, crowded grocery store.

That said, I would love to learn how to plan better and go less often. Do you freeze a lot? Do you have a standard shopping list that you use? For me, the biggest thing is a menu plan. I try to do a few staples every week and then 1 or 2 new things. Yes to standard shopping list. I also use pinterest to keep all my recipes on (for the most part) so I can access the ingredients on my phone/work so I don't have to go home and thumb through a cookbook. Once I have my menu plan for the week, I usually grocery shop on the weekends. I do find I need to shop at least 1x a week because we use mostly fresh fruit and veggies and most (especially organic) don't last that long. Another plug for amazon fresh: if you find a recipe on their website (suggested recipes, etc) then you can click on all the items to add to your cart! Literally one click shopping. Pretty brilliant IMO.

And I am able to buy a week's worth of milk in a single store run. Same with fresh fruit and veggies. Why do you need to buy veggies, fruits and milk more often during the week? They last perfectly fine in my fridge for up to 4-5 days.

We do a big shopping once a week. Then a trader joes run every other week. Then we usually stop by Whole Foods to pick up a few things 1 or 2 times a week (I usually do those on my way home from work, did I mention I love going to whole foods?)

My between grocery store trips are just two minute runs into the gas station. They have the cheapest milk, eggs butter and bread anyhow. Sometimes I'll grab bananas at 29 cents a pound when I'm there too, but 90% of the time, it's just for milk.
I'm 15 miles from the grocery (although, I do drive by it on my way to and from work), so if there is something I forgot, most of the times I'll just go without.

As for fresh fruits and vegetables. We get them the couple times a month I go and after they are gone (or spoiled! ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/angry2.png) ) we switch over to frozen. Unless it's summer, then we can run out to the garden and get a lot of stuff whenever we want. I don't typically harvest and store much.

I already have prime. I popped on to see about our cleaning supplies, one had a discount for auto-order. Do you know how that works? If it is subscribe & save, I do that. I love that also. You just pick out stuff you want & you can get it shipped at regular intervals automatically. It probably is only worth it if you do at least 5 things in one month because that is when you get a bigger discount. But, as long as you get it by the deadline you can cancel items, switch the month you want the next order, add items, etc. So if I find I don't need stuff that month or it is only an item or two, I just shift everything to the next month. Like this month I am getting deodorant, batteries, baby formula, toilet paper, hair stuff for DD, and diapers. It is nothing that I need right now & I get a 20% discount for doing it this way. I think it is less if you aren't part of amazon mom, maybe 15%, IDK.

Other times, they go through stuff faster than expected. Plus, I have 2 little boys drinking 2 different kinds of milk. We should be transitioning to 1 kind shortly.

Our gas stations used to be cheaper for milk and eggs, but they haven't been in a long time now. Their bread would get moldy really quick, too, so I don't get any of that stuff at the gas station any more.

We grocery shop once a week, usually Sunday late afternoon or early evening (great excuse to leave family gatherings!) or Monday evening. I have it down to a science; we're in and out in 40 minutes. There is a Fresh Grocer two blocks from my el stop, so I want to pick up something later in the week I just take a slight detour on my walk to the train after work. We are tailgating with friends this Saturday, so we'll end up at Wegmans Friday night once we confirm who is bringing what. I don't mind that shopping since it's for fun and not survival. :-)

www.shoprite.com/srfh_delivery/this is what most people around here use. There are also a bunch of shop online and stop by to pay and pick up your groceries options at this and other grocery stores. The people that use it love it. In my area it is only in the warm part of the year though.

But they are not in any order or anything. So I can never find anything on her board and I usually just end up googling for a recipe instead. Is there a better way to organize it?

I stop at the convenience store to buy milk and bread all the time. It's about $1 more there and on the way home from work and soccer games. Well worth the money instead of driving out of my way to the grocery store on the other end of town.

If you want to get uber-organized you can create specific recipe boards, i.e., soups, pastas, salads, sweets, etc. I have mine divides as recipes, sweets, or cocktails, but I need to reorganize into more specific categories soon.

The dollar store is literally next door to the grocery store. It usually has a long line too. I can't imagine driving there and not just walking in the grocery store and using the self checkout. I guess I could get milk at WaWa when I get gas, but I never get out of the car so it would still probably take longer. I hate trying to get a parking space and going in and getting behind all the people getting their coffee and hoagies. Maybe if the grocery store was farther from me I would be more apt to do it. I will add that since I started my second job I actually grocery shop less not more. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

Wawa is a wonderland of gas, relatively good food, and clean rest rooms. And crowded, lol.

Many times if we are talking about going out to get dinner someone will say they want WaWa hoagies. I have never in my life heard someone want to get dinner from 7-11. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

archie - no, not unless it's subdivided, as stated. IMHO, then it kind of sucks as a recipe organization tool. Impossible to search.

What's this about ordering groceries on Amazon? How do I get in on that and are groceries priced comparatively? Count me among the "over-worked Americans with bills to pay, competing priorities and kids to feed". My prime membership is pretty much going unused. Only available in certain markets. Oh, we don't have safeways. I searched the websites of the grocery stores in my area and it does not appear any do pick up or delivery orders. Peapod is not in my area. I used to do CSA drop-offs, but that wasn't the same as "groceries" as it was only a small box of locally grown foods. There is one company that delivers groceries, but they are all organic and really expensive. Plus, it's not home delivery, but a pick-up night at a location during a 3 hour window of time. Their mission is saving time and eating healthy- not saving money and I want to save time and money. I don't mind paying a reasonable delivery or pick-up fee, but I don't want to pay a premium for the groceries too.
