ART CASHIN: What could be behind the selloff
Veteran trader Art Cashin said that the market is experiencing a broad selloff, but the cause is not immediately clear.

"Rumor-mongers are out and about so the viewers should be careful," Cashin warned, adding that "it's clearly rather heavy selling ... there's nothing narrow about this selloff."

By noon on Thursday the Dow Jones industrial average (Dow Jones Global Indexes: .DJI) had lost more than 200 points, the S&P 500 (^GSPC) had dropped over 25 and the Nasdaq (^IXIC) had fallen about 75.
As to what is causing markets' slide, Cashin dismissed the idea that the "sell on Rosh Hashana" theory is solely behind it.
"There are also speculations that some people have had to get into a position of liquidating," Cashin said, explaining that he has not been able to determine if this includes multiple parties, but either way "it's very broad selling."
On Thursday afternoon Cashin discussed the markets' current support levels, and what may be in store for the future.

"You've taken out the 50-day moving average rather handily in the S&P, so I would guess somewhere around 1,963 to 1,967. There's a band in there," he said. "If we get late-day selling and they go down through that, tomorrow could be a real problem. This might be setting up into one of those September-October things if that happens."
Last Friday Cashin had warned investors about this week: In his daily market notes he cited research showing Sept. 22 has been tied to market reversals, and he reported (with the acknowledgement it may be crazy) that "several of the astrological types claim their charts show next week is fertile ground for surprises."

The truth of what is really going on at the
Texas-Mexico border is frightening
Texas Border agent goes after a suspect near Falfurrias, Texas. One agent told Examiner at least four suspects with ISIS ties have been captured in the past week.
On Tuesday a congressman admitted at least 10 ISIS rebels have been apprehended trying to cross into Texas from Mexico. Yesterday the Department of Homeland Security denied the claim.
A border patrol agent told the Examiner Wednesday evening that he knew of at least four ISIS insurgents that have been captured this past week. “There could be more,” he said. “All I know is we (the border patrol agents) know what we see and do, even if the Feds don’t want to acknowledge it.” www.examiner.com/article/the-truth-of-what-is-really-going-on-at-the-texas-mexico-border-is-frightening

ISIS reaches Baghdad suburbs, US troops block the way to
BGW Int'l Airport October 10, 2014 2:04 PM MST
In their push to completely wipe out the national government of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, terrorist members of the al-Qaeda allied Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) Islamic Jihadist organization have made their way to the westernmost suburbs of Baghdad, as reported by CBS News on Oct. 10, 2014. CBS is also reporting that between the furthest advance of the ISIS column and the center of the nation's capital sits Baghdad International Airport (BGW) where at least 300 American troops assigned as perimeter security, as reported by the McClatchy News Service on June 30, 2014.
With the outlying suburb of Abu Ghraib teetering on completely falling to ISIS, if the area comes under complete control of the Islamists, the Americans will be within easy range of ISIS artillery. Abu Gharib is a mere 8 miles from the runway perimeter, while the distance from BGW to the US Embassy in Baghdad's Green Zone is roughly 9.5 miles. The Washington Times reported earlier this summer that ISIS captured upwards of 52 American made M198mm howitzer heavy artillery pieces, capable of hitting targets 14-20 miles away.
The captured M198's reportedly cost $500,000 per piece. To add insult to injury, the Islamists have also seized 1,500 up-armored Humvees which cost the American taxpayer $220,000 each.
