So we can all continue about our business, oblivious to the fact that the next time a female athlete (who matters, and there aren't many) comes up on DV charges, it will probably involve an intimate partner.
Yeah, we're really prepared to deal with that.
We're not going to deal with violence involving a male partner well.
We're not going to deal with violence involving a female partner well.
We're not going to deal with "they're equally fit" or "arrest 'em both" situations well.
Wouldn't it be a good idea for women's professional sports to start coming up with DV policies now? They've only got a short window in which to come up with their own policies tailored to situations which are likely to ensnare female athletes. If they delay, they may be forced to adopt the same rules and underlying assumptions that male professional sports leagues use. Rules designed for male athletes that assume certain weight and earnings differentials between partners may not work very well in these situations.
