My sister and brother-in-law have a drop-dead gorgeous, ultra-modern lake house which they built a few years ago. We have a $ 20 limit for Christmas presents (per couple, not per person ! ), so it's hard to find a nice present for them. I found this trivet set in a magazine at the doctor's office, and (gulp- I confess) tore out the little picture. I then looked it up online. I think it looks pretty nice, and would go with their furnishings. They LOVE to entertain. What do you all think ? www.cb2.com/3-piece-metal-trivet-set/s208528

Not bad. But I like the green trio dish listed further below. It will pick up the green of the outdoors and is still just under your budget.

Not my style, but I like the idea of trivets as a simple, inexpensive gift.

If they're style is ultra-modern, then yes.

Thanks for the opinions. They are ultra-modern, yes. I'll look at those green dishes, as well. I haven't ordered anything yet.

I like the green trio dish, too, but sis will tell me she doesn't want another serving dish if I get them for her. She has some of our mother's, which are stainless Danish modern.

I think the trivet set would be a fine gift! (Isn't it annoying to shop for people who have EVERYTHING?)

Personally, I think that trivet set is a great idea! It's really eye catching and different.

Next time you are tempted to tear something out, take a picture of it with your smart phone. Even the dumb flip phones have cameras. I felt brilliant when I came up with this at my billionth prenatal appointment when I was pregnant.

FWIW, my favorite choice for some people is food gifts. The other plus with food gifts is the recipient has less pressure on them. They don't need to use a food gift for example, every time someone comes over.
In the end, whether it is a good gift or not depends on whether they will like and use them. I've been living trivet free for at least 6 years.

I really like the trivet set, Nazgul. I use trivets in the kitchen and sometimes set plants on them elsewhere in the house. The ones you've found are quite attractive.

I felt brilliant when I came up with this at my billionth prenatal appointment when I was pregnant. I've started doing this when I have a wine I like at someone else's house. In the past, after enjoying said yummy wine all evening, the next morning I would never remember what the wine was for some reason...

Those trivets are SHINY! If they like ultra-modern, then go for it.
Personally... They'd end up at a white-elephant gift exchange faster than you can say 'Boo' if I got them. In our family, adults usually exchange pictures (we all like pictures) or food gifts.

I prefer food or beverage gifts so when they disappear you think they enjoyed them. I have gotten boxes of chocolates and re-gifted them but the giver never would know trivets they might expect to see again. My taste doesn't match other people so I like disposable gifts like a bottle of wine or pounds of coffee or smoked salmon or something. Even if they hate it they can toss it without regret or serve it to guest who might enjoy it.

It wouldn't go with my décor, but I love the shape and that you hang it on the wall until you need a trivet. I think that's awesome.

I ordered the trivet set. I'm glad that I did. So far, I have one Christmas present and my father's 90th birthday gift ( a money clip which he requested ) ordered and /or delivered.
