So, I'm supposed to have a procedure tomorrow for lady troubles ( hopefully, quite minor ), and I'm feeling a little grumpy and anticipatory due to them resetting my surgery time FOUR times ! Well, that was fun. It got moved from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. then moved to a different location 7:30 at a different location, then switched out to the main hospital again, at 7:30 a.m. WHEW ! I hope they don't give me a vasectomy by mistake, or a knee replacement or something, at this rate. Gotta get there at 5:30 a.m.
When DH left the house this morning, he thought we had to get there by 9:00 a.m., and by the time he got home late this afternoon, we have to leave home at 4:30 a.m. He's not too enthused, but will always help me. I told him I would drive us in, and that he can sleep in the waiting room.
So, I was grumpy because I had to sit by the phone all day while they got their organization straight. I watched 3 episodes of Dr. Pol ( The Incredible Dr. Pol ) on Nat Geo Wild, and I feel so much better. I just love that show. I like the old-school vet stuff, the love that he and his wife of 46 years show for each other, the bovine expert Dr. Brenda, and the hapless Charles ( their adopted son ). It's great. Even though I don't like my ex, I loved the veterinary lifestyle, and this really brings it back to me. Plus, it's a Michigan practice, and they show absolutely EVERYTHING.
Has anyone seen this show ?

I love that show! And the one that comes on afterwards (usually) about the Yukon vet.

I've seen the show; he seems like a neat guy. But would I be watching any show involving a man putting his hands in a horse's hoo-hoo to pull out a colt just before a doctor was about to work on my ladybits? I dunno. Hits a wee bit too close to home for me.

That way you won't wake up with your tonsils missing.

The last 8 surgeries I've had, I've been handed a Sharpie in the pre-op area and asked to mark the hip that they're supposed to work on.

Haven't seen the show, but to avoid the inadvertent vasectomy , your anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, circulating nurse, surgeon and holding area nurse should all ask you what you are having done. They should look at your ID band and ask your name and DOB. If you have any tendency toward nausea, let them know preop. They should ask, but in case they don't, you mention it. I hate being nauseated. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the tips and well wishes. I'm having a D & C and some samples taken. Blechity-blech-blech-blech-blech. I told them full anesthesia after the Valium didn't work and they had to cancel the procedure when it was supposed to be done in the office last week.

I love that show, too! It's funny- I'm not an animal person and find it hard to relate to people who act as if their furbaby were another kid and/or pay for extreme procedures, but I love the way every case is different and I love his enthusiasm. He's also got great respect for the farmers and understands that a sick/dead animal can hurt their business.
Did you know Dr. Brenda has a pet ox? Somehow that just fits- you wouldn't picture her with a pomeranian. And my favorite was the episode where they guy's dog was acting listless and sleepy and they ran all kinds of tests before determining that the dog had eaten the contents of a styrofoam cup the guy's roommates had used as an ash tray while smoking pot.

Update on procedure . We made it to the hospital at our time of 5:30 a.m. ( blech ). I had a smooth procedure as far as I can tell, and they found a huge polyp which was removed. I am already feeling better. I have almost no pain. Also, I want to know why it took them so long to diagnosis this and remove it. I am not too happy about that part. My previous gyne in the same practice never ordered the hysteroscopy ( looking inside the uterus with an endoscope ) and took care of my and my uterine dysplasia for roughly five years. The pathology isn't done yet, but they think it's all benign. I'm hoping for the best. Tonight is a good night for me. DH is exhausted and is sleeping after dinner. I'm hanging out and then going to watch the next episode of The Roosevelts on PBs.

If you would have gotten a vasectomy, when you were going in for your lady bits, I'd say you either really needed it, or somebody had their head up their @*#. Glad to hear you're doing so well.

Hi Chiver, they gave away my OR times from the first two times that were scheduled when they cancelled those and tried to move it from the main hospital to an outpatient clinic. Outpatient clinic doesn't do the procedures that I had any more at their location, so it was moved back to the main. At that point, they took whatever opening was left, so we had to get there at 5:30 a.m. However, since they're doing surgeries in 30-40 operatories and cases can get behind, being one of the first patients was actually an advantage. You're right, toomuchreality. Luckily, this dr. was quite good and fixed me up with the proper procedures .

Problem is that I was already a basket case because my 9 year old was having her freaking kidney removed that I couldn't remember which side...husband was there and he insisted it was the right side but I didn't trust him!lol. I made them show me her records before I would initial anything...and husband was correct!
