Missed this a couple months ago- but video is out after the $900,000 settlement, which followed a $1,000,000 settlement for similar tactics by this police department:

Only $900,000 for what they put the guy through? He deserves much more than that. What an invasion of privacy and so much more.
The guy's name is Timothy Young of Lordsburg, New Mexico if you want to read further.

That was not a 5.0 earthquake that registered here in NorCal -> it was my jaw hitting the ground. I believe that those two cops should have been given their walking papers for their conduct! Didn't read that happened though!

It blew my mind that this isn't the first time it has happened. The other one apparently wasn't caught on video.

Here is one example, though no trips to have a doctor conduct cavity searches. The cavity search was conducted along the side of the highway in front of passing motorists. Former DPS trooper gets probation, $2,000 fine for illegal body cavity searches

i remember reading two stories.
one was about women who got unwarranted cavity searches. it really DID sound like cops were basically "legally" raping them.
the second was about the guy taking tortilla dough to a friend's house and he got lost on some backroad, i think either in TX or KY, and pulled over by a cop who mistook it for cocaine. he lost all of his food, and spent two days in jail. he didn't even get an apology. the thing that galled me about this story was that it is really easy to tell the difference between coke and flour. all you need to do is rub the "flour" on your lip. the fact that cops are that unskilled at identifying drugs is disturbing, to say the least. if they can't do a better job than this, then they should wait until someone who knows better gets there, or let them go. yes, i mean that.
the US is little better than a fascist state, in some ways.

Way more often than you think, even 20 years ago it was happening more often than you think. Cops get real good at reading people, it's like a job requirement almost. They know when they can push past the usual limit on a back road or side street somewhere, without repercussions. For every one that gets noticed or caught there's probably a hundred go unreported. My wife spent some time volunteering and socializing with cops when we used to live in Illinois 15 years ago. You would not like the discussions that take place while unwinding with a beer off the clock after work. Been there.
