By the title of the movie, I gather it's one of those "isolated cabin in the woods - something's bound to go wrong" type of movies .
Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame - that's something you'll be able to talk about for years - how your cabin was used as a location for a movie.

It's not that isolated; more like "small town". But you'll have to rent it to find out! I purposefully asked that we remain anonymous in the credits so no 15 minutes of fame for us.

I missed this original discussion that you were now the proud owners of a movie set! Congrats! I would have intentionally remained anonymous also. I'll have to wait until it's on Netflix.

They shot the movie mid Nov through mid December. And despite the CA drought, it looks like they got a least a couple of little snowstorms. There's some wonderful shots of the mountain and surrounding National Forest. They even got a beautiful sunset from the middle of town; a scene we've never seen despite visiting for 20 years. It is kind of funny seeing your stuff in a movie and how they rearranged things. They took out our dining table and moved a desk from upstairs to the dining table spot. But other than putting up some gauzy curtains and changing some of the art on the walls they just used our stuff. Oh, except for the coffee table; that and the axe scene would have been concerning. DH says I need to write to the producer and compliment her that they did a good job cleaning up the blood from our new floors.

Bonnie -I hope it was not a slasher movie! Well there is an axe...which is why I'm glad they didn't use our coffee table.
But I would categorize it as psychological thriller.

That's so cool Bonny!
I have a friend in my neighborhood whose house is used every year for the next installment of what was initially a very successful made-for-TV movie. They have just filmed Season 5 (I just checked).
My friend absolutely HATES doing it, but the money is WAY too good to refuse. When the production leaves, everything is repainted, refloored, etc. My friends have a tiny 1BR "lodge" in their (large) garden so now that the kids are gone, they move into that.
Two of their 3 kids got / are getting degrees in photography and film-making. One of my friends' conditions was that they employ the boys. I don't know if they were paid or not, but the experience was great for contacts / their resumés! The money paid / pays for 2 of her kids' educations in the US.
We aren't close so I don't see her often but I see her a few times a year. I'm going to see her this week, in fact.
She told me she got very angry on 2 occasions: once, on the last day of filming, the crew had a pool party w/o having ever asked for permission to use the pool. She came home and saw them all in the pool, drunk, and lost it. Another time, she had bought a new set of sheets for their bed, still in their original packaging, and had left them in the closet, waiting for filming to be over so she could put them on the bed. The filmmakers went through her closets (they were NOT allowed to do that, per the contract), found the sheets, opened the package and used them for the shoot.
She refused them the following year, but this year they were there again, so I guess she got over it lol.
Interestingly enough, her house was NOT used for the original TV film. The people whose house was used for that flat-out refused to do any more films, so they went scouting around for another similar-looking house, and knocked on my friends' door. So my friend's house has been used for 4 seasons out of 5.
I think it's probably more difficult when it's your "real house"; they live there year-round except for a few weeks during the summer.

Since this is a Money board, can I ask how much the house rental fee was ? I'm too lazy to look it up but I think all together we grossed about $3k. We charged the normal monthly rent + they had to pay utilities and about $400 in "damages". With that many people in the house we had some extra wear and tear on the paint and deck. I was going to do the work this summer anyway but they paid for paint et cetera.
We knew this was a little Indie production and were doubtful it would make any real money. But the town had been threatened with a huge fire in the summer and it really affected tourism and the town's economy. Summer is when people make their money. We thought the production could be a little shot in the arm for the town's economy. And it was; the local restaurants did really well with catering and feeding the film crew, a local inn filled up and our Property Manager rented an additional six cabins.
We asked for and got a film credit at the end for our cabin. We hope we get a little additional business out of it.

Cool, thanks for the info! I thought it would be more, but sounds like it was beneficial to all parties
