Wow- could not have seen this coming. The only non-idiot is the girl.
news.yahoo.com/instructor-accidentally-shot-girl-9-dies-184354750.html
WTF is wrong with some of these gun nuts?
A 9-year-old girl accidentally killed an Arizona shooting instructor as he was showing her how to use an automatic Uzi.....
I could just stop there.
Vacca was standing next to the girl at the Last Stop outdoor shooting range in White Hills when she pulled the trigger and the recoil sent the gun over her head, investigators said
Last stop all right. This is Idiocracy level stupid.

I read that earlier, EVT. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor! What fool would give a 9-year-old girl an Uzi? Sheesh!

As Forest Gump said: "Stupid is as stupid does"
Sorry the guy died... but... he was an idiot for putting ANY gun in the hands of a 9 year old that likely has never fired a gun before.
The 9 year old girl's parents were idiots for deciding it was a good idea to let her shoot an Uzi.
The owners/operators of the range were idiots for letting the 9 year old onto the range without knowing if she was capable of controlling the gun.
Idiocy all around.

I think the trauma that the nine year old girl must have experienced should be taken into account in this discussion.

I have no doubt she will have trauma from this. I also don't (really) give her any blame in what happened. There were MANY adults around that could have stopped this from happening. None did.
Children don't have the grasp of possibilities that adults do. the girl was surrounded by idiots. They bear 100% of the blame for this one. All of them.

Yep- the only innocent person in this is the girl. Talk about a colossal failure in judgment. An instructor should know better- and parents should too. I didn't even want to post another gun thread but damn.....even LaPierre is probably shaking his head.

I have no problem with owning guns. However, children should NOT be handling guns. I am all for teaching children gun safety. And, I don't have a problem with teaching children to hunt and hunter safety but I think that kids should be at least age 12 or so and they should only be allowed to handle a .22 rifle at the range. Children younger than that should not handle guns at all. I don't even think 12 yr olds should handle guns but there is a large hunting culture here and I don't see a problem with taking kids that age out hunting with responsible adults. We don't let 9 yr olds drive cars. So, why is a 9 yr old handling an UZI?

Yes it should. But on the off-chance there wasn't any I'd be okay with this happening a couple thousand more times. Can't imagine how the world could possibly be worse off if we ended up with far fewer people stupid enough to hand a nine-year-old girl an Uzi....

Maybe this wasn't an accident at all. Maybe the instructor had taken one of her Barbies away and this was her revenge.

Recoil is a bitch. Liberals want to teach 9 and 10 year olds about sex, and contraception- why not have a mandatory gun safety class in every school?

I'm fine with a 10 year old in prone position learning to shoot a semi-auto .22 rifle, but this is catastrophically poor judgment.

There's a video of the incident out there. From the angle and picture quality it looks like one of the parents was taking it with their cell phone. It cuts off just before the instructor is hit. The gun didn't go over her head. The instructor has her fire a couple shots in semi-auto mode, then tells her to keep the trigger pulled and switches the weapon to full auto. The girl is a little slip of a thing. She points the gun at the target and squeezes the trigger, like he told her to. The weapon immediately starts drifting up an to the left. He's standing next to her on the left. It must fire at least ten shots, drifting up and to the left with each shot. The instructor never puts his hand out to push the weapon away, or help her control it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

A few seconds. Let me see if I can find the video again. This link cuts off a little earlier than the one I found yesterday, but you can see her lose control of the weapon, and the path it's starting to take. wtvr.com/2014/08/26/gun-instructor-killed-by-girl/

Like you said earlier, Shaun - she's just a slip of a young girl - and it was beyond foolish to put a weapon of that caliber, with that much force behind it, in her hands.
I've also watched videos - which fortunately cut before the actual fatal shot hitting the instructor, but she should never have been allowed to have that weapon in her hands in the first place.
I used to target-shoot with DH, and some of his hand-guns had a kick to them which doesn't even compare to that of an UZI - at 9 yrs old, I have to wonder how much previous firearm safety & practice-shooting she'd done - to make him think she could handle this type of weapon.

I can't believe this shooting range had a big sign outside advertising to come in and shoot an UZI. Was the instructor certified? Who would let a 9 yo shoot a weapon like that. Anxious to see the NRA response. No charges against the girl, but there should be charges against the range.

What went through his head first I am sure is how this incident affects his agenda. If he had a thought about it at all it was what trouble this causes him. Doubt he gives a shit at all about the people involved.

I didn't get to try out the pistols or other rifles and shotguns until later. Had a BB gun in third grade though- the classic Daisy spring version- and still managed to shoot out a neighbors window with it.

I look at it like this- I'm for the legalization of marijuana, too. Even for recreational use- on Constitutional grounds. I have no issues with booze. I like driving cars. But we certainly wouldn't argue for giving any of those things to a 9 year old, either. Because they aren't things a 9 year old can handle.

This 7-year-old seemed to handle the car okay and do what many adults do-like abandoning the car when the police were after him. Just don't drive on the highways. Going to the local store for mom would be okay.

Police found this diorama in the 9-year-old's bedroom. I am envisioning a whole new era of Barbie Porn! However, If that is Ken, if the toilet seat is up and he was peeing, then wouldn't he have been shot in the back? And if he was doing the other and was seated, wouldn't the toilet seat be down? So, I think this picture shows reasonable doubt!
