Stay safe! I imagine there might be aftershocks, so do what you need to do to be as safe as you can.

Yes, sometimes the aftershocks can be a bad. Stay safe my California friends.

It woke us up over here. We live close to the epicenter.
I was also here during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. I had just pressed the garage door opener and then the house started shaking. I thought I had broken the garage door!

I slept through the whole thing. Maybe we didn't even feel it here, I don't know. My son didn't feel it either.

It woke me up when my bed did "weird things". So I tried to find online information which was not yet available, posted here and went back to sleep. I am 70 or so miles from the epicenter and only woke up again a little while again. I'll repeat my sentiment from earlier today: I hope that all our posters are ok.

Didn't feel a thing down here, or slept through it if we did.

I slept through it. (I am used to cats jumping on my bed all night long ... so 3:30am bed shaking isn't really enough to wake me)

Called my folks, they said that they all woke up; but fell asleep again after.
I guess it didn't hit them as hard as Loma Prieta, I remember that one shook tons of stuff off of shelves in the house. I guess this one was probably minimized by the additions they keep adding to the home. It's 3 stories, and at first it was taller than it was wide and long. Now it's been multiplied in a couple directions and they keep locking it all together specifically with earthquakes in mind.

Didn't feel it down here. DH mentioned it when we woke up but I don't think he felt it (I think he saw it on the news).
I remember Loma Preita. Our house shook and we were about ~120 miles from the epicenter.

I was in the '89 one. I was at Girl Scouts. My dad often went to baseball games, and I was so glad he wasn't there or on the bridge.

And this is why I have earthquake insurance! Felt worse than Loma Prieta ... course it's closer and on the right fault line.
Which winery lost the barrels -- Kunde or Domain Carneros?

Makes sense. I was just thinking about old vintages they may have been holding onto that are destroyed forever. I hope this doesn't put too many businesses under. These wineries, liquor stores, and any shop with lots of glass bottles or breakables are going to be hurting.
One pic I saw had lots of bottles of olive oil on the floor.
I'd be tempted to use a very tight woven cloth filter if it was a rare and highly regarded wine and the bottle broke in a not so bad way.

I didn't feel anything in Sacramento, but with nearly 200 lbs of dogs sleeping on the bed every night, I rarely wake up anymore. I was kind of disappointed, as I still have never felt an earthquake after nearly 20 years of living in California. Then I realized the size, damage, and injuries involved, and decided it was probably better I slept right through it or I would have peed myself. This was no small earthquake!
I read this morning that the damages are estimated to be nearly $1 Billion between Napa, Vallejo, and surrounding areas. I hope this doesn't make wine prices skyrocket too much, and hopefully all the businesses get back on their feet quickly. Napa wine country is one of my favorite places in the world!

These events are great reminders to be prepared.
The government says 3 days. I think they are high.
I've seen a windstorm with rain take power out to a huge (and affluent) suburban area for 11 days!!!
I think most people would be well served to think about how to live a month without anything "needed" from outside (fuel, food, water, entertainment). It doesn't have to be expensive or involve a bunker. Just have
1. more batteries/flashlights than you think you'll need 2. a "well stocked" pantry - no cost, you'll eat all the food in there 3. a wind up weather radio/flashlight (news, entertainment and light!) $20 4. a good supply of medicine (if you are prescriptions) and basic first aid stuff - no cost, you should have this anyway 5. maybe a good water filter (like a good backpacker/camper one) - $100 or so 6. If you want to "go crazy" get a good inverter generator and convert it to propane and store enough propane to run it a couple of hours per day to keep your freezers frozen and charge your flightlights, phones, kindles (could go 1500 on this optional line item, but it's handy for camping, tailgating, etc too) Were you listening while DH and I had lunch today?
In addition people should know where their water and gas shut-off valves are.
