Women in Red was designed to help women who were in debt or wanted to learn more about how to manage finances get together and learn from each other. The "red" means "debt".
From there, the threads "Women in Red Racers" was formed, these women "race" their debt and help each other though encouragement during the good and bad times to pay off all debt and enter "financial freedom". As a group, we've paid off more than $10M dollars in debt I believe.
Other threads have popped up to help women figure out how to budget, find the best bargins (e.g., the Grocery Store Thread and Controlled Spending threads.) Other topics do arise that pertain to women such as the Pregnancy thread.
While most of the posters are women, we do welcome men to join us and in fact, I know the South region has 2 men as part of the group right now.
As a whole, the Women in Red place is a place to get advice that is more encouraging but also offers tough love. It isn't as demeaning as the YM site can get. I've posted in both places and the YM posters are more harsh and critical.
