We had plans to go camping this weekend. 2 nights down on a small river, for us and the kids it sounded like a blast. Lots of time to play in the river and just chill out. Well, then I caught the weather forecast for this weekend I was like...eeeeehhhh... that sounds hot. Then everyday they would add another degree to it. So now the forecast is for 98 degrees both Saturday and Sunday. And last night I said forget it. Even though our pop-up camper has AC, it is still going to be HOT. Total cost was going to be $50 for the campground for 2 nights, $20 for gas there and back, and maybe 2 fast food meals. Today I called and canceled the reservations, but I still wanted to do something fun with the family, since I'm taking Friday off. So, I thought maybe one of the indoor waterparks down in Branson. $135 for one night at the hotel (with tax and waterpark access), $20 for gas there and back, 4 meals eating out .... then I said lets do one other activity, so we are probably going to go visit one of the caves - $45 for the 4 of us (thank god Jocelyn is still free) and we are only going to do one 1 night away from home. So probably 3 times the cost of our original plan. But AC ... priceless.

Plan B sounds like a lot of fun.
Plan A can be done later.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. I really can't believe that after the gorgeous summer we've had, the hottest weekend of the summer is the weekend we made plans to go camping! Oh well, I'm showing flexibility.

No, we don't walk away. But when we're holding on to something precious, we run.

You'll have fun either way. Just make sure the waterpark is a REAL waterpark. We stayed at a hotel that billed itself as having a waterpark and no, it most decidedly was NOT a water park. 2 tube slides that are mostly closed to the public and 2 pools (1 kiddie and 1 larger) does not equal a water park.

Oh please, please, please don't take this the wrong way but I almost went nuts once on a cave tour when someone brought their two year old. The kid cried the entire time and just wanted to run around. No one could hear a single thing the tour guide said. I am certain you and your DH would take your child out of the cave but just wanted to mention that because it wasn't a fun experience for anyone. The kid would rather have been outside running around and everyone trying to enjoy the cave was unable to do so.

Yeah, kid crying in the cave would not be fun. But my assumption is that because most of the area schools are in session when we plan to go, that it won't be too busy. I could be wrong and because of the heat there may be more people visiting. But most people without school kids come to Branson in the fall and spring.

The kids did pretty good in the cave. It was a ton of steps, so DD just caught a ride on my back the whole way. DS was actually pretty freaked out by it and DH carried him down the first couple sets because DS was so scared. But he came around and did good climbing back up on his own until he hit his head!
The water park was perfect for the kids although I nearly drowned DD. I was getting out of an inner tube with her in my arms and I slipped and we both went under. Fortunately she didn't seem to have inhaled any water. She was a little scared but she recovered quickly. Ds is having a blast.
