Oh. My. Goodness. and, Han is from Star Wars. Hans is a Scandinavian name. Lol, Han was my reaction LOL. Like what? Huh? Han? The kids name are: Ramari Hass an [last name] Haeden Ra hl an [last name] Actually, Han could be a nickname for either of them. If you work on the theory that any rearrangement of letters can generate a nickname. Our son is Caleb. My Dad started calling him Cabe right off the bat. Then Dad had the stroke when Caleb was 5 weeks old and you couldn't have pried that nickname away from me. Grandpa R gave him that nickname and if he was gonna kick the bucket then by God my son was keeping the nickname until he could tell me otherwise. Thankfully Dad's still here and going strong.

why is the wife still the wife? why is she willing to put up with this? Because some people are ****ing crazy and/or have such low self esteem they don't say enough is enough. I've got a friend I mentioned a few times on here who was my partner in crime for years. These days I rarely talk to him and neither do his brothers but I still get updates even from him every now and then. He had a kid out of wedlock and his wife is not only still with him but she babysits the kid and posts pictures on social media acting like it's her kid. I could go into more details but I'll give you the cliff notes version - this guys story would put to shame any Maury Povich or Jerry Springer episode. He gets away with it because his wife, baby mama, etc. put up with it while he still pulls other women because he's attractive. Aside from his physical looks he has nothing going for him. It pains me to say that about someone I've known most of my life and grew up with but it's the truth. Unless it's getting laid he puts forth no effort and he doesn't have to when people put up with his crap.

Carl, its a mystery to me why parents give their children names that basically relegate them to the ghetto for the rest of their lives. It's been proven that those with "unique" names basically are the last ones hired. Back in the Stone Age of paper applications, those were filed in the trash the minute the candidate walked out the door. There's a guy at my bank branch who has, instead of his full name, an initial and a last name. You can bet its something ghetto sounding and hard to pronounce. Yet, he is an absolute treasure as an employee so thank god someone gave him a chance. Your family may not have been "white enough" for your wife's family but you will be the one to break the pattern and its damn hard to do. My hat is off to you. Btw, as its been pointed out, these are NOT African names. No one in Africa names their children like that.

LOL, when I was in Americorps there was a kid all the other kids called Dorkus. One day I pulled her aside and said "You don't have to let them call you that. You can tell them to stop." She says "It's ok if they call me Dorkus." I kept on for a little while until I heard one of the teachers call her that. Turns out her name was Dorcas, which originated from the greek and apparently means Gazelle. It's even a biblical name, apparently?

I've since learned that, but at the time had never heard of it. I thought the kids were being mean to her because she was a little quirky. Pointing out my own ignorance, not making fun of the name!

It's a pretty common name is some parts of the world. I've never heard of it. And even if I had, I would never name my child something that was bound to get them made fun of It's the name of a minor character in "Faking It" by Jennifer Cruise. Kids will figure out a way to make fun of just about every name out there, if they really want to. I get what you're saying and DH and I made sure we though the names and initials of our kids sounded good to our ears. And then people started congratulating us on using 2 names of actors involved in Star Trek.
