America's most dangerous street gang. Last night here in AZ, I was watching the news (local Fox channel no less) with an interview with Sheriff Joe Arpaio, He was asked about the Militarization of Police with all the Free military equipment and weapons, What's wrong with That? Joe said It's free doesn't cost the taxpayers anything. If I could get jets I'd get them. www.myfoxtwincities.com/story/26286672/2014/08/15/war-zone-in-ferguson-officers-equipped-with-military-surplus-gearSheriff Joe's part starts at 3:26 I can see Sheriff Joe bombing south Phoenix right now, Maybe he could that out some more people raising chickens.

Our counties Sheriffs department bought two old military helicopters to use for parts for the one they currently use. They got them both for $ 2,600. To bad an old guy had a stroke or something and drove his car off a retaining wall and wiped them both out last week. ( It wasn't me. ) Not all military surplus is negative. Just depends on which way the spin is going at the time. Look at those nasty 27 cops trying to contain a looting riot, they're wearing "MILITARY SURPLUS GEAR". You never know when an old piece of equipment is going to jump up and kill someone.

Only one group of people I know that profits from an arms race.
But the scary part is the more the police look like the military, the more we look like potential threats.
What's the quote- when all you have is hammers everything looks like a nail?

LOL! They really do look like stormtroopers in that second picture - reminds me of the generic Cobra troopers from the GI Joe TV series.
But I would say they started becoming those stormtrooper types around the same time that peaceful protestors became looting mobs that burned down buildings and threw molotov cocktails...again, though, that's just my best guess

what was just demonstrated in MO is just the opposite. the violence is actually escalated by the brutality of the response.

When these guys: became these guys: We had very few events like this, But was that enough reason for almost every town, city, county, State agency to create their version of a military combat unit?

Well, yeah. Because it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Same argument most gun owners use.
Now if only we could get a better handle on when to USE it....

The pic's been reposted a few times, so I'm not going to quote to answer - you know the question: "When Did These Guys Become These Guys"?
It happened when thugs, gangs, drug manufacturers/dealers, criminals started getting their hands on more powerful weapons, began designing bombs & explosives, and became more aggressive/destructive in their crimes and mass shootings, etc.
You have to fight fire with bigger fire.

You will be happy with this one. The serial killers, Police stated "were under constant surveillance". Which means that the police watched the killers shoot their last victim, Robin Blasnek. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Shooter

You have to fight fire with bigger fire. clearly untrue. however, in the case of drug battles, one has to ask whether this is a proper war to even fight. www.cato.org/publications/commentary/drug-decriminalization-policy-pays

I have to go to work so this will be my last rant this morning. Jose Guerena shooting. this one is personal, I have seen the house, met Mrs.Guerna. The sheriff for days after this happened was stating that the bullets were bouncing off the police shields, shattering the door jams. 15 minutes after the officers entered the residence, they knew that Guerena. had not fired a single round. Honesty and ethics in police, don't you just love it. I'm going to post a web site that gives an in depth analysis of this. It's a little long, those of you that take time to view this I would like to have your comments. I would like to know why everyone from the Judge all the way through the Swat team, especially the detective have not received some type of punishment? Mrs. Guerena and her attorney received $3.6 Million. this was not punishment for those involved. The prosecuting attorney found nothing wrong. $3.6 million says he was wrong. Police investigating police, What could go wrong here? statelymcdanielmanor.wordpress.com/2011/12/30/the-jose-guerena-shooting-update-1-reprised/statelymcdanielmanor.wordpress.com/category/jose-guerena-case/ The second link is for the complete analysis.

Maybe he wouldn't be so popular if the federal government actually did something about the US's effectively nonexistent southern border.

the federal government has done more in the last 10 years than in the previous 20. this seems like a really odd time to voice that complaint, to me. edit: furthermore, i don't reach for the shotgun when i am trying to kill my carpenter bees. this is always a question of how much you are willing to give up to obtain your goals. Joe is clearly willing to give up a lot.

Joe is clearly willing to give up a lot. The amount the government is willing to do needs to be at least proportional to the size of the problem. From Bloomberg: And the rub: In recent weeks, President Obama and congressional Republicans have begun to offer the same simple-sounding solution for dealing with the flood of children crossing the U.S. border alone: Send the kids home. But with tens of thousands of them churning through the system, some just toddlers, the logistics are overwhelming. A decade ago, the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), which cares for minors soon after they are picked up, handled just 6,200 kids a year. By 2013 that figure had ballooned to almost 25,000. Since October, more than 57,000 children have arrived by themselves, most from Central America, and 22,000 more have been detained with their parents. While the majority of those caught are teenagers, the greatest increase has been among children younger than 12.
