What kind of blood test hospitals conducting

I was delivered into a hospital on suspicious of a heart attack. After testes ran it was (as usually before) an anxiety attack.
I was told to take pills and take it easy. They said there is nothing wrong with me except my head.

So what I want to know is what kind of blood tests they are running in hospitals that they told me I am fine.
Does anyone knows?

Just want to avoid having blood test again when having my physician's appointment.

Also can I order copy of the test from a hospital?

they check for some kind of enzyme your heart will emit during a heart attack. My mother has had several, and lots of trips for chest pain, and that's what they check for each time.

I don't think your doc would do this test, it's just for an acute chest pain episode.

Is your doctor affiliated with the hospital you had the test at? He can probably go online and get it. Or they send it to him automatically, that's what our little hospital does.

First, glad you are OK, Loony.

Second, yes, you should be able to get a copy of the tests. The hospital should forward them to your doctor (I'm assuming you provided his/her name to the ER folks when you arrived) and your doctor should provide you with a copy. I've gone to the ER before, and normally, my doctor has the info the same or next day.

I hadn't noticed any recent posts from you, Tloonya, so I was wondering about you!  Glad you are ok, but panic attacks are scary, so DO take care of yourself.  They are manageable. 

Yes, get copies of everything from the hospital and go for a follow-up appointment with your primary doctor.

Depends on your symptoms. A diabetic "attack" as you call it would show symptoms that would alert the ER staff and they would test for that. My brother had one of those - his sugar levels were in the 400+ range. He was extremely tired, had lost weight and was very thirsty 24/7, despite being sick with the flu and consuming gallons of fluids. He had not eaten in a few days. He's not normally a sick guy or one who complains.

ETA: Also can depend on family history. If one or both parents were diabetics, or you have siblings who are diabetics, the hospital may be more likely to check - that's also the case with us (dad had diabetes; mom was still alive at the time, and had diabetes, though she was in denial about it.)

as far as I know, they will check blood sugar, but not cholesterol.

really low blood sugar or really high blood sugar can be a medical emergency, cholesterol isn't.

Even if they did a glucose test in the ER, if your doctor suspects diabetes he's going to redo it because they're going to want a fasting test.

  at the bolded part above.   Ok - I'll be nice but wanted to say I hope that you are ok and that yes - you can get your test results.  Some doctor's offices make you come by to pick them up, some have a system where you get a password and can see your entire file and print out any lab work done and some will mail the results to you. 

I agree with MPL about the fasting blood work.  That would be more accurate.  If you suspect diabetes you may need to see an Endocrinologist.

  The purpose of an ER is to RULE OUT the worst case scenarios and work backwards to lesser problems.  For a potential heart attack, they are going to do an ECG, possibly a chest xray and then do blood work.  Usually a panel of blood chemistry that would include your sodium, potassium, blood sugar, etc and your white count, red cell count, etc.  For specialized testing they would do troponin and other blood tests that can indicate a heart attack, etc.  If all those things come back negative , then they determine lesser causes such as GI problems or anxiety, etc.

  But yes, you can get copies of all of your medical records and lab tests.  You just have to go to the hospital and sign for your information.

They most likely ran a Troponin first if they suspected a heart attack.  They probably also ran a metabolic panel along with it to see if you had an electrolyte imbalance or an issue with your blood sugar level.  It's also possible that they ran a blood gas.  Beyond that, it would depend on the symptoms that you presented with.

Troponin wouldn't need to be ordered again- but then I don't see why they would.  The metabolic could be ordered again because it only gave results for you at that point in time and the electrolytes can change quickly.  The glucose would also be repeated if they suspected that your fasting blood sugar was high (since your ER sample was a random one it would have a different result).

Hospitals and doctors only care about making money. They will only run the minimum of tests required by law. It is up to you to make sure they run anything necessary to keep you alive.

I work with doctors and I don't find either of the statements to be true. Our providers order what they think is necessary for each patient. They are not padding the insurance. (Which may or not pay.) And generally don't know what insurance you have when they see you.

Sorry, my opinion on that is a little clouded due to some medical and mental issues my mom has.  Her specific group of doctors (yes, she has a whole collection of them; if she's not receiving some sort of medical treatment for something, needed or not, she's not happy) will do any test, any procedure, any surgery she'll agree to because my dad has really good insurance and it covers everything.
