-faint-I pay $79/week for afterschool care. $30 is freaking awesome! For one kid? Ouch. Ours is $4/hour, but they won't charge you more than $180/month. Geex, I'm getting screwed! I pay $90 a week for after school care and my daughter is only there about 5 hours a damn week! And I'm supposed to live in a LCOLA!

If it makes you feel better mid my co-worker pays $425/week for infant care. He gets a 10% discount on the three year old. So he'll be writing a check for $700+ on a weekly basis. It's not a cheap area though. I think pricey real estate is part of the high costs.

Our schools have 1/2 day kindergarten and I pay $45/day for the "enrichment" (basically making it a full-day program).
That wouldn't be too bad, but I also have 2 more in full-day preschool which adds another $10K to my tally over the school year.
I guess it could be worse though, there is a private place by my house that is pish-posh and that is where we sent our kids last year (part-time though) and that would run me $20K per year for the pre-schoolers if I did full-day.

Sigh is right! Not sure why I'm bothering to engage, but I'm assuming you mean no preschool bill? Well, preschool is all day. It replaces daycare and (if I were able to get away with no after school care), they are almost identical in cost. $495/month vs. an average of $466. After school care could bump it up as much as $160/month more, but I'm hoping to minimize that as much as possible. It is an incredible school and I'm very lucky to have access to it as a free K-8 charter. Along with having a sibling there, it ups his odds in the lottery next spring if he's a Children's House student this year, so that's part of the reason he's going. He did Tues-Thurs last year and just loved it. Yes not sure why you are engaging, If you homeschool your kids from day one there are no bills.

In order to do that, I'd have to quit my job. Then I'd be on here complaining about Obammycare and not being able to afford vacations, cell phones, or seafood. And I only have a year left of daycare!

Plus, I'll bet the homeschoolers on here will argue with it being free.

If you homeschool your kids there will be no bills at all. Is it against CoC to say that the poster made a very ignorant comment?

I think it's more like trolling or baiting. At the best, sarcasm.

I'm kind of liking the plan....so if I homeschool all of my bills will go away....the poster said it so it must be true. is it only K-12 kids or do I have to homeschool my college kids too?

The biggest expences are (I believe) are the first five years. Most children go to school at five so I am not sure why that poster made that statement anyway.

Since college is the most expensive of all, I'm guessing you can save the most money that way. You'll come out way ahead on the deal!

We'll be paying $113 a week for after school care for DD1 when she starts kindergarten in the fall. I think we'll still get a 10% discount since DD2 is there full time so it'll be $100/wk for them to pick up DD1 from school and keep her there for 2.5-3 hours everyday . I'm hoping by next school year (2015) I'll be able to find something cheaper for after school care but DD1 is so sensitive and adverse to change that I want to keep her at her same daycare for this year since starting kindergarten will be a big enough change as it is.
