Driving too fast, how do you react? I was driving ~20mph. I told him he doesn't get to harass me. He told me he'd take me to court. I know he's just a cranky geezer, but it's put a damper on my day.

The best defense is a good offense. Next time you see him roll down your window and a shot a cheery "Great day isn't it Mr. Crankypants" It will drive him nuts.

We're you turning a corner at 20 mph or just driving straight? 10-15 mph would be safer for turning unless it is a wide rounded curb.
If I was driving faster than necessary I'd apologize and be more mindful in the future. If it is well within the boundaries of safety I'd just ignore him.

I'm not claiming to be the best driver in the world, but I wasn't speeding in this particular case.

Chloe I didn't know we lived on the same street. My next door neighbor is the guy always out yelling at everyone to slow down. He also is repeatedly turning people into the cops for speeding. As he gets older he is getting crazier and crazier. For a while he was coming up with all these schemes to get people to slow down. Things like rolling bowling balls into the street and trying to time it so they will hit the bowling balls. The police have visited with him a few times for hosing people down in their cars. We see more one fingered salutes on our street all directed at him but that was fun explaining to my DD when she much younger about why they were doing that to the neighbor. For a while we had a couple a-holes at the end of the street who would slow way down to see if he was outside and then gun it right in front of his house. Again fun when you have little kids playing outside. For right now he is having health issues and isn't outside all the time like he used to be.

Many moons ago, my very young siblings and I were visiting our grandparents. We got bored and decided to climb a neighbor's crab apple trees. The neighbor came out and with a small branch he started hitting us in the legs, yelling at us to get down. We ran back to our grandparents' home and told our father and grandfather. Our father and grandfather read the neighbor the riot act. Our dad renamed the nasty neighbor 'Crabby Appleton, Rotten to the Core'.

I think pretty much any neighborhood has at least one grumpy old man. He probably considers you "that young, reckless whippersnapper" tearing up & down the streets like a speed demon at 20 mph.
I'd just chalk it up to him having a bad day, and he took it out on you (maybe he hadn't had a B/M yet today).
Not really anything he can sue you for - so I wouldn't worry about it - if it hadn't been you, it probably would have been someone else driving up the street that ticked him off.

He wouldn't dare yell at someone to slow down where I live. A lady did just that and the car turned around came back and she was shot dead. ETA: Not on my street - across town though.

I would probably just tell him to go ahead and sue/report me. If he calls the police often enough they will have a BUNCH of words w/him and/or get social services (dementia issues->conservator & placement in a care home)involved.
Is it just you or does he scream at other neighbors? A united group can help w/police and or social services.
Does this neighbor have any adult kids? Maybe a word w/them and a threat to involve social services if they do not or cannot get him under control.

Do you know what car he drives? I suggest taking your foot off the accelerator completely and going that speed when he is behind you.

Just smile and say "OK" when he says he's going to sue you. That's what I do to people at work and it pisses them off even more. There's nothing they can actually sue me over so I am not worried. Then just be nice to him. He's probably having a shitty day and just happened to take it out on you. Just don't engage with the crazies and your life will be more pleasant. Although, it is fun to brainstorm all kinds of responses, even if I never actually say them out loud

You mean you actually stopped and engaged him in conversation? I wouldn't have done that.
*shrugs* not much you can do really. I had some old lady yell at me for driving up a parking lot against the "grain" of the slanted parking slots.
As they say, misery loves company.

What would he sue you for? take her to court for speeding / as a complaint / citizens arrest and all that BS No. The government is responsible for enforcing traffic laws. Individuals cannot take someone else to court for breaking traffic regulations. It's just not the way the law works. Think about it. You hear all the time about the government trying someone for murder. But the surviving spouse, for example, can't sue that defendant for murder. She has to sue civilly for wrongful death.

A tale of turning bad into good.
When I was a kid, we had a grumpy neighbor who would go ballistic about us stepping on his yard.
He hadn't been outside yelling at us in a while so us kids would go step on his lawn and yell we're running on your lawn.
Unknown to us, the man was on his death bed. His care taker came to us after he passed and told us he appreciated us thinking about him. He knew we cared for him.

I am sure Mr. Grumpy cat meant court as a figure of speech / expression - like people often say I'll kill you! In New Jersey on some highways there are electronic signs that read call this number to report aggressive drivers. then the reporting person reports highway location, license plate, make model of vehicle of aggressive driver, and what's the issue.
