I'm assuming there are other stores nearby and you just prefer this one? Either way, I feel your pain.
We had Dominicks, a very large Chicago-based chain, shutdown recently. I lived within 1 mile of 2 different Dominicks and another 1 was about 3 miles away and on my way home from work. We had a nearby Jewel and Walmart, but I recently had sworn off Walmart and was alternating between Jewel/Dominicks.
The problem was that when the 2 Dominicks closed, all the people flooded to the Jewel and the lines were UNBEARABLE.

How far away is another store? I know you have small children so shopping is probably a hassle at times as it is without adding extra driving time. (I'm not saying your kids are a hassle; just that taking them may be extra work for you.)
I live in a fairly small town but I have 4 large chain grocery stores within a 5 mile radius. I'd be upset too if the one and only store I liked closed. Hope they resolve this soon.

We have other chains around, but this one has excellent selections and the best prices.
And it's not just one store that's on strike, it's the entire chain, through all of New England.

Well, just maybe the other surrounding stores will step up their customer service and offer sales and discounts to get the business from the store that's on strike. If they're smart they'll try to entice the "lost" shoppers. Hope it all works out soon!

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop & Shop will jack up their prices in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!! (I feel much ill will toward S&S so I'm not surprised at all) Shaw's I'm not sure about as they are just crawling out of a hole they dug themselves into, with acquisitions and having to sell off stores, and I only know of 3 stores in my area at the moment. Too far away for me to care. Market Basket is going to screw themselves completely because the cousins are polar opposites and will drive it into the ground because the lawyers will get all their money as they they keep spending it on taking each other to court. Stupid people. Some of Market Basket prices were already raised for their "4%" savings promotion. 2 of my sisters-in-law went off on a tangent about that when it started.

I'm surprised by really how few grocery stores are in my area. Publix and some bad breaks (a plane filled with executives that crashed) killed Bruno's and its cheaper offspring Food World. Winn Dixie is not far, but it's one of only a very few and too expensive to shop at unless it's a choice of it or a convenience store.
There is basically a choice among Walmart, Target, and Publix. I haven't stepped in Target since their breach so I would cry if Publix closed down. Where would I get meat and vegetables?
Fortunately, I think there's no danger at the present.

We usually shop at Kroger, but we can also shop at Target ( cash only with the breach ), Meijer, Walmart, a fancy supermarket called Holidays, some grocery store with a name like SavMor ( can't quite remember ), Aldi, and now, Busch's is coming in. I guess we're doing okay on grocery stores.

I was wondering if anyone had posted about this here yet. Whole thing is such a mess... I went by the Danvers Basket yesterday and I have NEVER seen that parking lot so empty employees were out at the lights with signs and so many cars were honking in support of them. It's amazing how the customers/public has (from what I've seen) gotten behind these employees... the whole thing is a shame I hope they can resolve it (we usually shop at the Basket too)

I can't think about it right now. I seriously can't even figure out where I am going to do my weekly shopping. At another grocery store. Yet another helpful suggestion. My alternatives are Shaws, Hannofords and Walmart supercenter. Their prices are much higher and their selection is different - so what I am used to getting in MB, I don't know if I can find it in another store or if I can afford it

I give DH a list a couple times a week to get stuff from the MB near his office (none convenient to me). Now I'LL have to do ALL of the grocery shopping.

whoisjohngaltLena!! MB is for sale!!!! Big story on the 11 o'clock news tonight. OMG - this is TERRIBLE!!! But yeah, i am not surprised. I am probably going to hell for saying this, but the only people who suffered from all this fiasco were customers and people who got fired for all that boycott. They weren't going to bring the old CEO back. MB could have been sold and no one would have known the difference. They probably would have just raised certain prices over time and may be not stock certain items and that would have been that

Lena, I wouldn't buy any "fresh" groceries at WalMart - I find their quality below standard on produce, meat and dairy. Also check expiry labels on packaged/canned goods - they're not famous for rotating old/expired stock off their shelves.
I go there for non-edible products (printer paper, ink, a few casual clothing items such as sweatshirts and T's etc - and I've even bought brand-name electronics there -- but when you walk in the door (not doors) - no barrier in between - they often have food items (including prepared foods/veggies/fruits/meats) - right by the door.
In most groceries, you pass through 2 sets of doors - then those perishable items are located at the back or side perimeters of the store - away from the doors.
Even pricing laundry detergents, cleaning products etc at WM, I haven't found any significant saving on price to make it worth my time to fight the lineups at the tills - since most are usually closed, and the rest are lined up with people pushing full carts of stuff.
If that's your only option in your area, you do what you have to do - but that would be a last resort for me, as far as any grocery shopping is concerned.

I am just impressed that some people just shop at ONE grocery store. I need to visit three to get exactly what I want ... four if I am being particularly picky ... a local, independent grocery store, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods. (The last store is a chain grocery store.) If I have to, I can get by with just the local grocery store and Trader Joes ... and Amazon.

I remember when my favorite Path-Mark closed down in my area I went to ACME and was rolling my shopping cart crying because everything in that store was wrong! Hope you going to find a replacement soon. I am happy as a clam with my new GIANT!

I think the dynamics facing Market Basket are unfortunate. I also think it speaks volumes that the rank and file are striking because the CEO was fired. Yes, there will be pain in the short term. It's happened many times before in American history for change to take affect. However, I cannot fathom shopping at only one grocery store. I did growing up. Every Friday, my dad and I went to Safeway. Granted, I don't have kids, so there isn't the time factor per se. But, I shop at numerous stores for food -- Costco, Giant, Safeway, Shoppers, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Moms at some point. Two of these aren't near my house. No matter.
Good luck Lena.

When we lived in MD, I did pretty much all my shopping in Wegman. I still only buy chicken in Wegman
I do go to TJ, Whole Foods and Russian store about once every two months, but Market Basket really has everything I would need on a weekly basis, variety and price.
Someone posted on FB that their weekly shopping just cost them $70 more by going to a different store, so I wonder how long can people sustain this.
