Ahh- the danger of media consolidation.
Was watching Bill Maher the other night- talking about how Murdoch wants to buy out Time-Warner- which owns HBO- and he said the minute that happens Real Time will be replaced by Steve Doocy eats paste.
Not enough FOX and the rest of these 'news' stations have already polluted the electorate, they need to make it worse? The new politburo is here. As said by Lewis- Fascism will come to America draped in the flag and carrying the cross- not to mention guns. There is an enemy here- but it isn't the 'thugs', the 'illegals', or whatever else these people want to blame for their shitty life- it is the people that worship wealth.

Laughed my ass off at what he suggested would replace him (not at him being replaced though).

Michael Medved just called Palin "not fully rational on impeachment" and implied her efforts are only to publicize her new tv channel, Bimbo TV. OK, I made that last part up.

What is her channel called? How does one get an entire television channel, anyway?

It's apparently called the "Sarah Palin Channel" and carries a $10.00 monthly subscription. I guess if people will watch Bill Maher, they'll watch Sarah Palin. Maybe throw Jerry Springer in there and make it a three-for-one lowest common denominator deal.

If that doesn't indicate sarcasm, you realize you've just forfeited your right to chide Paul about tuning into Rush Limbaugh?

But $10 a month to listen the ranting of a half-wit?

Virgil- let's put it this way: Palin's channel is worth approximately $9.95/month less than she is charging. edit: and yes, Maher is worth precisely the same.

She doesn't strike me as the brightest individual, but I don't understand the left's obsession with her.
If you don't like her channel, don't watch it. If you don't like what she has to say, tune in to a different station.
Run a search. In the past 12 months we've had six threads devoted to Ms. Palin, zero to Mr. Maher. Since the creation of the board: 30 threads on Ms. Palin, 3 on Maher--and one of those is about Maher calling Palin names.
And before you argue "but Palin is a politician and Maher is just a talking head", I'll also point out that at least 40 Rush Limbaugh threads have been created to criticize his views/comments since 2011 on our board.
So why the lopsided response? Why does the left gripe tenfold as much about a political nobody like Sarah Palin as the right does about a political nobody like Bill Maher? Is it so hard to just tune her out without making "bimbo" jokes and posting SNL parodies?
The left owns Ms. Palin as far as I'm concerned. Your resentment for her is 95% of the reason people will pay $10 a month to hear what she has to say.

personally, i think she is adorable. is that reason enough for my obsession, or would you prefer something more concrete?
edit: paying $10 because the left hates her is way more stupid than anything i have to say about Palin.
i am thinking her little enterprise will be a flop. but it is not because i am hoping it is. it is because i have watched her attempt several failed ventures in the past and i suspect this will be another one. she is not nearly as determined as Glenn Beck. her failures are part of her charm.
ftr: i have never called her a bimbo, and i have never intentionally insulted her. i really think she is awesome. but then again, i like Rob Ford and Orly Taitz for similar reasons. they are guileless. they have no clue how they appear to others. adorable.

Something more rational would be nice. Bush bashing I can understand given Pres. Bush's significant impact on US politics during his tenure. Mocking Sarah Palin is more like Hezbollah launching rockets into Israeli cities. They may think they're teaching the Israeli military a lesson, but they're also 95% of why the Israeli military exists in the first place.

So Maher costs maybe 10 cents a month out of that? I think he's worth that much- but I liked politically incorrect way back when- my interest changes depending on the guests.

Scariest thing about Palin is that the far-right apparently thinks she is intelligent, rational, serious-minded, and competent. Were that not the case, I'd bet no one on the left would bother with her. And for the record, she is none of those.

i think she is probably reasonably intelligent. but i think she is very intellectually lazy. Bush apparently has an IQ of 135. that places him "gifted" i believe. but he is quite lazy, as well. there are people a lot "dumber" than either that do way more with their minds. and that makes them far more serious minded, rational, and competent. it really comes down to how much you follow your gut -vs- grind things out mentally. these are "gut" people, from what i can tell. this is precisely why i have zero faith in "common sense". i will take reason in a cold second.

i think Maher is quite witty, but also quite offputting. contrast with Jon Stewart, who i find quite witty and not nearly so offputting. then again, Maher is an unabashed liberal, with an axe to grind. Stewart doesn't even pretend to have one.

I wouldn't expect any threads about the guy except maybe when some people get offended by him like Trump and Palin did and then all of a sudden it is newsworthy- especially when Trump wanted to sue him over the orangutan thing. Virgil: i am sorry, but i can't offer you anything more rational. i have a fascination with individuals i consider aberrant. psychologically, i presume it is to give me a sense of security, but i have not really had the impulse analyzed. knowing how weird and crazy and funny people can get makes me way more comfortable with how weird and crazy and funny i am. so, my obsession with Palin borders more on amusement. i have the same fascination with my cat. he is completely weird and funny. my obsession with Bush, on the other hand, is diabolical. i loathe him as i have never loathed another living person. i am sure many share the feelings for Obama. not healthy, but you can only endure so much of some people before you come to loathe them. i understand. and for the record, i obsess over people like R. Stevie Moore (musician), as well. i trip out on people that do amazing things. lest you think it is 100% negative, all of this obsessing, it isn't. in fact, i spend a lot more time thinking about Moore than Bush.

It is possible that you are right. It is also possible that your fascination with her creates a halo effect. If she were truly intelligent I'd think we would have more evidence available to demonstrate that. But then, since I have a tendency to almost immediately dismiss anything from her I may have missed it.
It does bring to mind another thought I once had about someone else. "The person who does not think is no better than the person who cannot think."

LOL! that was almost Twain-ian in the deftness and breadth of the criticism. well done.

you know, i have to grant you that one. this also goes to the legal expression: "ignorance of the law does not forgive the violator" i will one up your aphorism, though. i think the person who does not think when they CAN is far worse.

He's a political talking head. Ms. Palin is a political talking head. Neither of them holds any kind of political office. They're professional (and I use the term loosely) ideologues with US media presence. They serve precisely the same role on opposite sides of the political spectrum, even if Mr. Maher's format is more comedic. The difference is that the conservatives here don't seem to have any trouble tuning out Mr. Maher. Or at least we're far less inclined to complain about something he's said. And the problem isn't that conservatives are paying too little attention to Mr. Maher, but that progressives are paying too much attention to Ms. Palin. DJ's justification is that he finds Ms. Palin adorable, which I suppose means "a spectacle of naivety". What's everyone else's excuse? Why are we discussing Ms. Palin's channel in the middle of a thread about impeaching Pres. Obama?
