I am very greatful to have been born in the US. While I certainly am saddended by where our country is headed, I am so greatful to not have been born in a third world hell hole. While I have never had it in me to fight for our great nation, I fully support hose that have. I have been known to break into tears listening to patriotic music . I personally want to bitch slap any American that burns or disrespects our flag, yet I am happy to live in a country where such disrespect won't get someone shot (but part of me believes if you hate my country you should get the f out). Like flag bikinis? HATE THEM!!!!! The height of tacky. I'm more offended by those than flag burning. Lol...im less offended by them because it isn't intentional. But for an American to burn our flag, it just posses me off

My husband was lucky, lucky to get political asylum from an Eastern European country. After he was granted asylum, he waited 8 years for permanent residency. Meaning he needed to keep updating meds, fingerprints, work papers, etc. It took that long because tey only give so many a year. Each January they give out the quota, then wait another year...
We did do his citizenship based on marriage and so that was only 2 more years... Although he was told they make most wait 5, but he had lots of solid documentation, so he did get it after 10 years total.

I am a flag flying, rhinestone pin wearing, damn proud to be an American and the wife of a disabled Viet Nam vet. I cry at the National Anthem and the song by Lee Greenwod. I love Toby Keith and his Angry American and believe the way to achieve peace is by putting a boot in their ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone want to make something of this? haha, I didn't think so. I love Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue...I tear up everytime I hear it.. I love Toby Keith...but I kinda hate myself for it. I just can't help myself!!

Even though I was in the Navy for nine years, I don't think that makes me more patriotic than anyone else. I chose to enlist after not taking college seriously. It was an awesome experience that I will never regret. Scotland, Puerto Rico and then Hawaii. Great experiences all; good and bad. Made me more mature and forced me out of my shyness. No regrets ever. I try not to take this country for granted. I feel blessed to have been born here. I wish more people felt that way and I do worry about the younger generation that expect everything to just magically appear. I fear for the majority of this country becoming even more apathetic than it is now.

I would say yes. All four of my grandparents escaped persecution and found an open door and a safe haven in the U.S. If not for that, the lives that they, their children and grandchildren were able to realize would not have been. One can only feel gratitude.
This crazy experiment in Democracy has attracted immigrants from every nation and continent on our planet. What is it that's so attractive?
Is it flawed...yes. But I believe that I'd prefer to cast my lot here than in any other place. JMHO.
If that is patriotism...so be it.
