Help!
I had a friend order a pair of shoes on Ebay in size 9, and they shipped the size 7. What do I do?
I'm fairly concerned as this was the last pair of size 9's he had and I saw it get off the listing 30 secs to a minute after my friend ordered. I really want the shoes in a size 9 as no one has them anymore.
What should I do or have my friend do? I'm hoping this is just a Mercury retrograde issue and someone who wanted a size 7 has my size 9 shoes. The order details on the form she printed sadly do not reflect the size selected.

Have her contact the seller and get it straighten out?

Contact the seller. I've had it happen a few times. Usually they sent my item to the wrong customer. They typically will give you a refund and ask you to mail it to the proper person. They are typically apologetic and try to fix the situation. However, I have had people pull the bait and switch before and mail me a generic or lower quality item than what was in the listing. Those people you end up having to report to eBay.

Apparently they are a pristine pair of Orthofeet 715's in size 7. I'm worried because they don't make them anymore and my friend just called and is busy as well.
Thanks.
I really could use these so, I'm hoping it can be resolved with me getting the size 9s.

Apparently contact the seller flipped her to Ebay so she opened a case a little stronger worded than I would have done.
I've been told there's a wait until July 1st to resolve this and then an escalation point after that.
I'm just hoping he screwed up by accident and sent 7B instead of 9B. Please send your prayers and mojo. Optimist really needs these shoes. My feet keep going out. and my old pair is really past its prime.

It's better to work through the Ebay system, anyway. If you have to return them, you expect the seller to not only refund what you paid but what it cost you to return.
Once you get it straightened out, you simply close the dispute.

UPDATE.
Ack, there's been a miscommunication between me and my friend and I thought the wrong size received was a 7B. It was a 7D!
The dropdown didn't specify width so I apparently made the wrong assumption and thought it would be medium. My friend just called and said if you scrolled down past the page that displays when you order it says Wide, i.e. D so I might be SOL as this person doesn't do returns.
I hope since I haven't even touched the shoes perhaps I could just be out the cost of shipping them back and he can add them back into the listing. Optimist sad. I so wish I had gone to see the shoes originally. Had I realized they were a wide I just would have done the return and say don't ship the 9 I didn't realize they were D's not B's.
Shoe finding saga continues and now I'm probably out all the money as well.

You ordered size 9 and were shipped size 7. Why are you not getting your money back?

The seller explicitly doesn't do returns per the listing. I am getting $25 back and am out the shipping of $12.47. I also have two pairs of shoes to donate somewhere that I'll have to hold onto at least until September as they are black leather and black microfiber.
Picked them up yesterday and convinced my friend to leave the resolution as is. She feels bad about the money the seller is out, but odds are my finances are much worse than his, so I picked them up and need to find a place to store them for a couple months.
The only interesting thing I found out from UPS customer service is that an unused shipping label only costs the person who bought it a label fee of .50 to $2 versus that plus the actual shipping cost which was likely between 6.80 and 9.90ish.

when it's their mistake I would have demanded a full refund. what money is the seller out? and why would you feel bad for them, they screwed up? seriously - the seller should have refunded your purchase price, any shipping you paid, and also the shipping for sending them back. also, why would you have to hold onto them until september to donate - people wear black shoes all year round, especially if they're non-slip?

I think if I'm reading it right she thought she ordered a 9M and he only sells wides. So even if he shipped her the 9 she ordered it would still be a wide width not medium like she needs.
With my Ebay sales I know in this case Ebay would have bopped me over the head and told me to make the customer happy. So I would have given the choice of shipping the correct size 9's or refunding the money. I know you may still feel it would have been wrong for you but the refund is actually less costly for him since it doesn't require him to ship a second pair of shoes.
And "no refund" is if you find you don't like them just because you can't do a return. This isn't a return it is a "fix the seller's mistake".

The seller screwed up the first time. Unfortunately I misunderstood my friend over the phone the first time as well, so I thought we got shipped a 7B not a 7D.
Since I asked her to order for me since I wasn't set up yet, it is partially my fault I didn't make sure everything was right. Unfortunately, she was in this must be fixed right now mode and I do have my PT job and other things to deal with so I didn't go there in person and confirm. Because of that, after discussing it she and I decided to ask to get the 9 and return shipping for the 7.
Unfortunately, it didn't seem to compute to her that if the listing didn't list widths at the top of the order page and the only sizes listed were 7 and 9, that I wouldn't be getting a 9M(B) like I expected and wanted but a 9D(wide). So I'm pissed at her about that, but since she did me a favor to order it at all, I'm letting that go. I wish I hadn't let her cajole me into acting prematurely as had I stopped it after the 7D received perhaps I could have got all my money back, shipped the 7D back and be done with it.
I've had at least 3 or 4 pairs of this particular shoe which is now discontinued which is why I was OK ordering with a no return policy. I just missed that they were really wides not mediums and remain a bit pissed that that error wasn't caught by my friend and I in time. I keep wondering what logic tells you if there are 7 and 9's for sale with no width listed that you would get a 9B and a 7D from.

I have to do this through her so I'm done with the fighting even though I know no one in the area will take the shoes now. They will be considered fall or winter shoes and I have to wait until Sept/Oct to donate them.
He did put the width of the shoes in the bottom of the listing which neither my friend or I noticed. I think its really bad selling especially since I've seen people put the width in the description or a dropdown on width that only shows D is available. Technically he did disclose it in the fine print, but as someone who had never bought from Ebay until now, it seems damn deceptive to me. You had to scroll down another page or two to see that the width was wide. I don't like when obvious things are in the "fine print" expecially since reading several other Ebay Orthofeet listings that seem to be able to do it right.
Yet at the end of the day, this was done through her Ebay account and she wants to protect her rep more than get me maximum $$ plus losing the shipping cost is what was proposed. Yes I wish I got it all back, but I understand its fair on some level. Ebay has a quick time window on resolutions and yesterday is when that window expired. (When a complaint is opened.)

All I really wanted was a size 9M, but he didn't have them to sell. I think he sells odd lots and the 9Ds were being sold and the 7Ds at that time were not.
So in the end I'm out $$, still need a pair of 9M shoes that support my feet and the slow painful search I guess goes on through Shoebuy, Zappos, etc. I was so happy when I thought I was going to get 9M's I was thinking of giving my friend a few bucks as a thank-you. And now, I'd appreciate it if she gave me some of the shipping $$ back as IMO she should have caught the error and advised me to not ask for the 9s. She knew they were 7wide. She thought I knew, but I thought they were not.
Vent over. This makes me sad. I was so happy when I thought I was going to get a 9M in the shoe that got discontinued without notice to me, when it was too late to find them in my size.

Your friend doesn't have to worry about her reputation. Unless Ebay has changed recently, only buyers can leave negative feedback. Sellers can't.
I don't think it would be very ethical of Optimist to sell these shoes on Ebay.

The seller only takes PayPal. I was not fully set up and didn't want to use my primarily call out only cellphone to set up my Paypal account in time. If I used the cellphone method, it gives PayPal the right to hassle, i.e. contact me through an avenue which is usually off and not used. It potentially would make things very difficult in the future for me and I didn't want to go there as I need to start selling my stuff for $$ so I'd be using PayPal frequently in the near future.
Some things don't set up quickly. PayPal and things like IRA withdrawal accounts typically take several business days. There was one pair of 9s left and I didn't think they'd survive until 2PM when I'd be working, so I asked my friend if she was set up on Paypal and Ebay. She was. I wasn't and still have to find my slip of paper to formally finish my account set up AND set up an Ebay account.

why would you use your phone to set up paypal and not your laptop?

Odds are he'll write them off as donations.
If I were Carl though I guess I'd do it. My name may or may not be mentioned anywhere and right now I have no Ebay presence. But he's sells often and if I were him I'd notice if both shoes showed up for sale on Ebay.

SingleMom, go set up a PayPal or IRA account now. You will notice how they confirm bank access is by withdrawals.
If you want to do it same day with PayPal, the only method they allow is sending the amount of a micro-deposit to your cellphone and you confirming it. When you read their copious documentation as to what you agree to, you find that any phone number you ever give them or reach them by is considered to be fair game for them to contact you. No opt out on that.
Since it was Sat or Sunday I did this on, it probably wouldn't have worked anyway. Otherwise its around a 3 business day process where they put in a couple micro-deposits and then withdraw them. You are supposed to confirm those micro deposits online to activate your account. As a warning, I didn't complete the process, and closed the window. Apparently PayPal sees me as confirmed and did the micro-deposit. That screen must do an auto-send before it dies. I've yet to confirm anything yet since I've been busy with my friends calls, etc.

I misread. I thought you paid for shoes that were not the right size and were stuck with them. So you got money back except for shipping? Right? And got to keep the shoes?

Yes. The bad thing is neither of them are the right size and we did have a shipping label for the 7s. Both my friend and I would have been happier to send the 7 back, but I think the seller just wanted to cut his out of pocket.
If anyone has an idea of how to make wide shoes fit like mediums, I'd love to know it. If it were winter I'd just try really thick socks, but its blistering hot now, and I already have bad feet stability issues with sneakers that need to be replaced. I really don't want to add to them.

I still don't have a smartphone. But to have email only contact you have to do the several business day registration process and keep your contact with Ebay to email/internet only if you don't want them using your phone numbers.

Not necessarily recommending it in this situation since I'm sure there are 57 reasons why it wouldn't work, but PSA - if anyone needs a phone number that's quick yet easy to screen/block calls on or even ditch, get a Google Phone Number. It's free and works well. You can forward the calls to your regular land or cell phone line or not.
And it's a lot better than giving annoying people and businesses your husband's cell phone number instead of your own. Um, not that I'd ever do such a thing. No, honey, I have no idea why the State Revenue Department has your number as the main contact for our business...
