I saw this in a news article for Flag Day to say the pledge at 6:00 p.m. CST.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

The courts have said 'under God' does not violate the Establishment Clause.

I didn't realize the Pledge of Allegiance was in the US Constitution.

I didn't realize the Pledge of Allegiance was in the US Constitution. it isn't. it was written by a socialist priest, Bellamy, around the turn of the 20th century. all the more reason to question it.

The courts have said 'under God' does not violate the Establishment Clause. Yes. It's really "Constitutionally correct". That's one of those rulings where the SCOTUS ignored the actual Constitution and instead ruled on their religious or personal bias. (It's FAR from the only instance of that... unfortunately) The First Amendment clearly states: " Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." CONGRESS putting "under God" in our pledge, violates it very clearly in three ways that are incontrovertible. One: Congress did it, They were the body that altered the pledge in 1954. The phrase "under God" was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance June 14, 1954, by a Joint Resolution of Congress amending §4 of the Flag Code enacted in 1942.
Two: It specifies (by naming God, the Christian one, by name, note the capital "G") a specific establishment of religion (Christianity). Three: Requiring it's use prohibits the free exercise of non Christians.

I didn't realize the Pledge of Allegiance was in the US Constitution. I was referring to what is legitimately allowed by the Constitution... not that it was PART OF the Constitution. The entire pledge (prior to and excluding Congress adding "under God") is perfectly legitimate and within the scope of Congress to enact. Adding "under God" isn't allowed according to the First Amendment.

I said the "under God" version, but saying the version without "under God" doesn't make a person any less patriotic. Whatever people are comfortable with is fine by me.

Whatever. We did it.
We are to cover our hearts with our hand or our hat when the flag is presented.

Silly me, we flew our flag (of course), but we didn't recite the Pledge. I did sing "It's a Grand Ol' flag" ... does that count?

If you don't want to pledge allegiance to this flag (representing this country), move to a country/flag that you can pledge allegiance to.
If you promise not to come back, I'll buy a one-way plane ticket for you.

i will pledge my allegiance to no man or nation. any country that REQUIRES it is not worth living in. this country doesn't REQUIRE it. and i sure as hell am not going to give it, even at gunpoint.
If you promise not to come back, I'll buy a one-way plane ticket for you. my family predates this nation by 125 years. if you don't like me here, YOU go. but i ain't paying for your ticket, if you are wondering.

All of us are part of this country.
I still love to throw out the fact that the Muslims, Jews, and Christians all worship the same God

Strange ......... I have a very strong line of American Indian in my ancestry. I think that pre-dates your family by a few years. And yes, I have an ancestor that came over with the Mayflower group.
I wouldn't dream of asking you for anything except respect.

So you believe the number 2012 behind the little boy has nothing to do with when the picture was taken. And the picture was taken yesterday. Seriously?

I don't care when it was taken, or by whom! Did they send that photo out on Flag Day or not? They were probably in a rush to get a DREAM Kid incorporated in the picture...they are your future, ya know! Obama: ‘Our Future Rests’ On The Success Of DREAM KidsPresident Obama reminded Democratic donors that “our future rests” on the success of people brought to the United States illegally as children, who would qualify for citizenship if Congress had passed the DREAM Act. www.nationalreview.com/corner/380193/obama-our-future-rests-success-dream-kids-joel-gehrke

I'll show respect when a flag is presented, but the pledge of allegiance has always bothered me. And, for the record, there are several "Christian" branches that also won't say the pledge, even if it has the word g-o-d in it.

So a photo of a young person playing with a GI Joe doll would be an insult to veterans?

So a photo of a young person playing with a GI Joe doll would be an insult to veterans? A patriotic bunting is to Flag Day as a GI Joe doll is to Veteran's Day. GI Joe being more recognizable than Xavier Alvarez, of course.
