So, if your DD buys a house in a neighborhood and then finds out later that the big daddy on the street (six houses down ) is a retired ( ? - can they ever really retire ), well-mannered, middle-aged member of a 1% motorcycle club (the real deal), do you: 1. Make her sell her house ? 2. Be glad that he's "watching" the neighborhood for everyone ? 3. Be glad that he and his buddies only party until 11:00 p.m. on weekend nights ? 4. Still let his nice 18 y.o. son help shovel your drive in the winter ? And I'm not making this up !

Well, presuming you mean Local 81 vs. some of the other 1% outfits, I really doubt she's going to have a problem unless SHE is causing problems. I have a good buddy the rides with Local 81 on occasion and I have met several of them - they all seem to fall into the well-mannered, middle-aged category (of course they has to be exceptions).
However, if it were my daughter, I'd encourage her to move on if that's feasible. Yes, they will watch the neighborhood on their own behalf but they will "watch" everything else as well. As far as potential crime against neighbors goes, that's not likely given it would be too close to home (the clubhouse) If this crowd parties until 11 pm every weeknight that's an added bummer.
Just my 2 cents

I wonder about her moving on, too. No, it's not Local 81 ( had to google that one - thank goodness for google ). It's a smaller, regional outfit, but 1%, none-the-less. They're in wikepedia and I looked at the outer menu of their club's website. He's just got a couple or three friends that ride their Harley's in, park in his drive, and they evidently shoot the shit over a few beers on the weekends. No real badass stuff. He's got a bad back and doesn't ride much anymore. He's like a retired machinist or something. The whole area is full of professional, blue collor, UAW types and Viet Nam vet type families. He has been known to buy up houses that have fallen vacant or been repo'd and rent them out himself for a few years, in order to keep the riffraff out ( his determination of riffraff, anyway), and then sell them back to the homebuying public at a profit. His kid is as gentle an 18-y.o. h.s. graduate as I've ever met. His big ambition is to own his own lawn and snowblowing business. He offered to help DD with her snowblowing and shoveling issues, and then came inside and we recommended he get some cheap business cards. He was delighted and wrote down the name of a few websites DD found for him on her laptop. So, I don't know. She did tell big daddy that she had to bring in a roommate to help pay her mortgage, ( which she's found - so far that's working out ), and he caught right on. He knows she doesn't make too much money teaching. So far, her house has gone up $ 10k to $ 12K in the last 6 months since she bought it, is a beautiful ranch with a great yard and 2 car garage, and would rent for at least $ 1250 per month if she moved out. She doesn't want to sell right now. The clubhouse is not nearby ( I don't know where it is ) and isn't part of the picture.

I used to hang out with some Pagans, so I personally wouldn't be bothered by someone from a motorcycle gang moving into the neighborhood. If daughter is bothered then it's her choice to move.

No, she's not really bothered by it. Only her old mom ! Even then, I just thought I would ask what others' experiences with this might be. I thought it might help me gain some perspective. He has been nothing but helpful and polite ( plus evidently, via the son, the big daddy thinks she's hot !), and she likes the neighborhood. I think where DD and I used to live when I was single, we had another one percent set of parents on the next street over, although I don't remember the name on the vests of their visitors, and they used to party more, but were still fine with us when we would walk by their house with our golden retriever. The house eventually went into foreclosure. All of the Harleys were black with silver trim and either regular or chopper style - no other color themes or builds were used. There are two big 1% clubs around the metro area. The club that the big daddy belongs to is one of the smaller ones that's clashed with the big ones in the past, but is still 1% by its own colors/patches/website.

I don't even understand your post What is a 1% motorcycle gang? Why is someone that rides a Harley a bad neighborhood influence? He has a Harley and doesn't have a job. He's a multi-millionaire?

Well, if you would google 1% motorcycle gangs, you would understand more, I believe. It's not the Harley at all. Just look it up and all will be plain.

Naw, I'd maybe start being concerned if she starts riding them. Otherwise I am sure she will be fine!

I am feeling better about it. I think you're right, she should be fine. Any trouble, and we'll just turn it into a rental. It's her house, but she's going to have to learn the rental business anyway, or sell some houses when we croak off.

If drinking beer in the driveway of your house makes you a dangerous person, me and my friends ought to be locked up yesterday.
Sometimes it is good to have a "big daddy" watching over you and your neighborhood. I have spent some time with some Banditos and lived to tell the tale.
Being from South Dakota, I have watched the motorcycle gangs come and go every August through the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Treat their members with respect, don't hang around after dark and you should be fine. Any motorcycle gang incidents I have heard of were between the gang members themselves.
People are so afraid of other people dressed in leather and riding motorcycles, when it seems the teenagers that can't tell the difference between video games and reality are the people who are actually causing death and destruction.
What a world we live in.

That's why I'm asking for others' perspectives, and I do appreciate the the stories. As I said, she's as happy as a clam, and thinks he's fine as a neighbor. One percenters can drink beer in their driveways and ride unicorns with black and silver horns, as far as I'm concerned. I was and am concerned about the neighbor idea, but I'm gathering that he just lives in the neighborhood, and wherever the clubhouse is would be where any club-related extracurricular activities, so to speak, would take place.
