With disturbing before and after photos of drug users’ faces, a new anti-drug campaign may succeed where others have failed, grabbing teens’ attentions by appealing to their vanity. The pairs of mug shots, which graphically display the damage drugs can do to the face, were collected by the sheriff’s office in Multnomah County, Ore. Faces that were normal — even attractive — in initial photos, shot when addicts were first arrested, metamorphose over years, and sometimes just months, into gaunt, pitted, even toothless wrecks. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41787410/ns/health-addictions/Look at some of these mugs. How sad for them.

It really is sad, isn't it? I've seen photos like those before.

I remember the scare tactics shown to us in the 80's and 90's of smokers lungs. I still know people my age that smoke.
These are sad photos but I suspect that this alone won't detract from a person doing heroin and coke.

I have seen some of the meth users in person. They may be 35 or younger but after a couple of years they look 60 with rotten teeth and cannot answer a simple question. It devastates not only them but their whole family. You do not develop an addiction to meth. You use it one time and you are hooked. So sad

I could care less, (you are the one that moves threads), but isn't this one of those threads you send off to another board?? Where is the politics here?? Maybe you meant to post it elsewhere?

A young ventriloquist is touring Essex and, one night, he's doing a show in a small town. With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes.
Suddenly, a blonde woman who apparently may have been drinking just a bit, or smoking some of her favorite weed; in the fourth row stands on her chair and starts shouting, "I've heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype women that way? What does the colour of a person's hair have to do with her worth as a human being? It's men like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community, and from reaching our full potential as people. You and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general...pathetically all in the name of humour!"
The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the blonde yells, "You stay out of this! I'm talking to that little shit on your lap!"

I remember the ads you're talking about, as well, formerexpat. You're right. They didn't seem to have a lasting effect on many; however, if they got to just a few, they were worth it! These pics look, mostly, like meth addicts rather than heroin or cocaine, though.

Quote:(The sad thing about so much anti-drug information is that much has been so hysterical and widely exaggerated that even the truth is no longer believed) unquote. This is true to a point but the pictures do not lie. I have seen first hand at what drugs like METH do to the human body and mind. Even when they are off the drug, the mental and physical parts never fully recover. Every teen should go sit in a meth rehab clinic for a day and just observe the old folks coming in are most likely not over 40 but look 60 and shake like a leaf in the wind.

The street meth today is a lot more potent and mind altering than the meth of yesterday, It is a combination of cocaine, codeine diesel fuel, acetone etc. really burns the mind and body. Most meth addicts cannot even hold a job today. Most cannot get a job because they cannot pass the drug test. A real tragic drug. There have been several house explosions and fires caused by people home cooking meth. Get the acetone to hot and boom.

A lot of people still smoke, but the % has gone down a bunch. 35-40% of the population smoked in the early 80's, now it is around 20%.

I remember a county I lived in for many years. They raised taxes on tobacco quite a bit to help balance the county budget. The after affect was people quit smoking and tax revenues fell so no help to the budget but the up side was many smokers quit. I never smoked cigarettes but smoked a pipe for years. I finally broke the habit. The end result was all the colds and flu I got in winter disappeared with the pipe and I felt much better all around. Not to mention my clothes and body did not stink of stale tobacco.

tough times: I do not know the answer for sure about your issues with the migraines but I do know that most pipe tobacco is of a different specie of tobacco than cigars and cigarettes. It mostly is of the burley specie. Does that have anything to do with it I am not sure.
