Someone mentioned this at work and I am going to go to Home Depot and take a look at it.

It's a lot better quality than what was on the market 40 years ago.

I think it would depend on the size of the area and how you use the space. My sister works at a vet clinic and they have a section of it outside their dog run and I didn't realize it was artificial. I may use it in a section of our dog run.

I played collegiate soccer and I HATE it. Ball bounces way too high and the flight path of the ball is so unnatural. I much prefer regular grass, putting slow back spins on the ball, etc.

I thought I might try a section of it in my backyard to try it out. I just don't know if it would look weird having the only green grass in wintertime. But in the back yard nobody sees it.

Our neighbors have a small area in their front yard and from the street looks great. Being in the desert they wanted very low maintenance and water. There are a couple of queen palms that get water but that's it.
I know the quality has improved and this looks natural.

Won't look truly natural until they make it with a few dandelions mixed into it.

IIRC that is how Euell Gibbons died - choked on a piece of AstroTurf!
ETA - I couldn't help myself!

My front garden is terraced because we are on a hill side I dug up the grass because it was just too difficult to mow.......and planted ground cover plants If I were to do it again I would definitely think of using artificial grass..... I could still plant the borders. and the front would look neat and tidy all year round.

We have a house in our town that has it for their whole yard, we walked by it a couple times and it looks surprisingly real I had to kneel down a touch it lol! DS has a severe grass allergy and breaks out in a rash head to toe and if we could afford it it would be pretty awesome! Our whole back yard is pea stone now though so he can play, it was way cheaper

If you mean for personal property--I have no idea. For schools--it's a PITA. Expensive and has to be replaced every ten years.

The naturally looking stuff with good "brown" color mixed in is very expensive. I've thought about it from time to time. I'm starting to come around to the idea of xeriscaping my front yard instead and doing the same with 1/2 my backyard. I will still keep natural grass as a part of the backyard, mostly for the dog.

My parents had an artificial putting green put in there backyard of their vacation home in Palm Springs and loved it. They have since sold that house and bought a different one that had grass and a pool. They felt like it was virtually impossible to keep the grass green with the temps, desert environment and salt water pool. They promptly hired the same people that put in the putting green at the last house to do the same thing to this house.
They seem to really like it and have claimed that if they upgrade houses again they will do the same thing again.
