finance.yahoo.com/news/this-new--10-000-degree-has-everyone-talking-194103390.html$10K for a degree. Competency Based. Targeted to working adults. Fantastic! "It partners with more than 50 companies to recruit students directly from their pool of existing employees. So far, their corporate partners include McDonald’s and Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as non-profit organizations and private hospital systems." I wish this had been around when I was working & trying to finish my degree. Looks like there might be some upside to having a McJob after all

Home school for adults. Maybe good for MCD workers and other low paid workers to get something cheap, but they might not end up with great education or jobs. The fast food worker who thinks they can support a family on that then figures out they can't might be willing to study. If the employer selects the students they can pick those that are the best of the bunch, promote them and want to promote them more but they don't have the education. This way the employer can motivate them and support the efforts.
My first boss told me I was too smart to work minimum wage and should go to college. He told me I was getting $1.25 an hour and he started at 10K because he went to college. Women told me they were getting $3 an hour working in the factory. Someone needs to tell these $8 people others are making $15 and bosses making more than $30 an hour now. If 4 years of home schooling can get them from $8 to $15 it will pay for it's self in no time. If the education doesn't teach enough they can go to a real college later and be ready to learn.
I went to community college then later a school that only offered 2 years but you needed the first two to get in. Many of the students worked for companies who reimbursed tuition. A company would have someone they wanted to promote but they needed a degree so sent them to our college. All classes were nights and weekends and most students were over 30 working full time.

A business works with a private non-profit institution to develop a training program for their employees. The non-profit charges the business' employees to take the training. Once the employee demonstrates they have learned the required material, the non-profit will give them a piece of paper with the words "Bachelor's of Arts" on it. Hmmmmm.
