MISSOURI LAWMAKERS PASS BILL TO ARM TEACHERS, LOWERS CARRY AGE FROM 21 TO 1917 May 2014On the last day of Missouri's legislative session, lawmakers passed SB656, which allows teachers to carry guns on campus. The bill also lowers the age to legally concealed carry from 21 to 19 and allows for "limited open carry" in the state as well. According to Guns.com, SB656 passed by a vote of 111 to 28. It allows "school districts to cross-train faculty to become 'School Protection Officers.'" State Representative Kevin Elmer (R-Nixa) said: "These are some important changes to our gun laws here in Missouri and will strengthen and expand the rights of law-abiding, responsible Missourians." He said the bill "[opens] the door for more responsible young adults to obtain their [concealed carry] permits." SB656 now awaits Governor Jay Nixon's (D) signature. WEBPAGE LINK - Breitbart.com

Surely they will be lowering the drinking age as well no?
At least they filibustered the other unconstitutional 'nullification' bill that was in the works- sends a really bad message.

The drinking age should be lowered... if you can volunteer to die for your country... you should be able to have a beer before you leave.

That's what I always thought- if you can sign up for the military you should be able to buy a beer. While it is true that people become 'adults' at different ages we need to just pick one age and go with it- it used to be 18 to buy beer in some states- I know because I used to have to go to the store over the state line and buy beer in my younger days
On the law- I have zero problem with arming some teachers in this case- because they have to be POST certified. I think it is probably not a bad idea and I think maybe they should be paid extra for their trouble. Even armed security is not up to POST standards.
What I would have a problem with is just any teacher with a permit be allowed to carry at school.

The last I heard the governor (Jay Nixon) is leaning toward signing it into law. If it has good utilization, it should help reduce targeting by nutcases looking for a slaughter pen. Of course they'll always have the Ft. Wood military base as a fall back target.

Heard enough about soft targets and 'gun free zones' from the NRA. It is pure bullshit- nutcases do not operate that way.

For me to accept the "pure bullshit" statement, some clarification is necessary. As in why is it "pure bullshit". (Said while walking through southern Missouri with twin 6 guns on my belt in open carry and wearing my "The NRA is winning" jacket.)

Because it is bullshit. Read up on actual incidents for starters- in fact start with Columbine- the oldest one I can remember.
Was it a 'gun free zone'?
Almost all of the ones I can remember the nutballs had a connection to the place- and I am not even going to bother with this- the NRA is making these ridiculous claims to push an agenda- guns everywhere. Their claim- they should back it up. They can't.
They just love scaring the crap out of people- because you need a gun now and you need to be able to take it anywhere because there is a bad guy behind every bush waiting to kill you. They can suck it. Wonder how many dead children there are due to them scaring some idiots with zero experience into getting a gun for home defense? Yep- just go down to the store and arm up. Seems I read about one of those kids every week. Gun safety my ass. You should burn that jacket- better yet use it for target practice.

Burn it ? Never ! I love that jacket. I love and cling to my guns ! No religion though, I lack the faith I guess. The NRA's claim to crime prevention is not by scaring, but by training and education. Don't be a victim while waiting for someone else to protect you. You can protect yourself ! Every state in the union now has some form of weapons carry. Who would of thought this 30 years ago! Soon every state will have some form of SYG. Self reliance, it's the American way!
