Older woman, religious, nice, good customer of mine comes to the store and standing by my cash register and we are talking about things...when other younger woman comes and she is also my good customer. There is nobody else in the store but 3 of us. Younger woman all of a sudden comes to me and says she knows great joke and she started to tell and I was like NOOOOOOO...that was the oldest, dirtiest, sexually explicit stupid joke and I looked down while she was all in that older woman's face laughing her ass off and trying to make that woman laugh. I couldn't look up. Older woman left and I looked up and asked the crazy one 'are you out of your friggin mind? don't you see what kind of person in front of you?' and she said 'what are you my mother? you are not even my friend...this was a JOKE!' and I said 'so, would you tell it to a child?' and she went 'what if you have crazy people coming to your store? treat me as a crazy person! but do not lecture me...'
We are kind of in a good relations - I give her food when she is short on money, she is bit artsy and off but was I supposed to say nothing?

Why are you assuming that all older women don't appreciate a dirty joke?
My grandmother loved 'em!

I think your elderly, religious customer will survive the shock. After all, she did pretty well getting to the age she is, right?
And unless you have a crystal ball, how were you supposed to know, or stop, someone from telling such a joke? It's a free country, even for people who don't care about other people's feelings.

It is not your place to lecture your customers on their behavior. There will always be boorish people. If younger woman can not realize on her own that her joke fell flat because it was not an appropriate audience, there is nothing you can (or should do) to help.
You are not her mother and you do not need to educate her in etiquette.

And your younger customer is supposed to know that she's religious? Granted, it was not the best idea to tell a dirty joke like this unless you know your audience, but THAT should have been the faux pas. NOT that she told it to an older woman.

I've been an unwilling audience of things like that before and I found the best defense is absolute silence. Maybe 'the look', but no comment.
I've also noticed that some artsy people are lacking in common sense by not choosing their audience well.

I had lost a customer once when one moron took a banana and asked her (older woman as well) if she thinks this size dick would make him a desirable man. He had stuttered terribly and she was suffering for longer time that it would take a regular person to end his rampage...that was kind of funny though...I wasn't there but I saw her flying out of the store saying 'it is horror, Loonya, it is horror!'

Tell us the joke and I'll let you know if it was that bad or not. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You are not responsible for what your customers say and do around your other customers. If you are upset that the joke teller got upset with how you handled telling her that you found it offensive then that's just something you have to live with and maybe learn from by working on your delivery. Or think twice before reprimanding somebody and whether you should even be doing that if you want their business. If they suck as a customer and want free food all the time then keep doing it. Next time they come into your store (if there is a next time) you could apologize to the religious older lady and if you care about the joke teller's feelings you could apologize in coming off so strong but that you prefer she not offend your customers with such jokes. LMAO at banana boy and the lady screaming "It is horror, TLoony. It is horror"!!!!

I was wondering just where banana boy was holding his fruit to create such horror.

But to be honest I told him to never come anymore. He returned and behaved badly again and I said - OUT! It had been about 3 years I had not seen that jerk. And sorry, joke is not possible to translate.
