how can you not eat any protein at lunch and not be gnawing on your arm by 3 pm?
I just get busy and don't think about it. I do snack on baby carrots, or have a banana, and I have 1.5 oz. of nuts (yes, I weigh them!) at midmorning. I've just gotten used to snacking on fruits and vegetables. Right now, after getting back from the gym, I'm having kimchee and Diet Coke. (I know- I have a cast-iron stomach.)

I typically have meat for lunch and dinner. I've tried just having a salad for lunch and I am starving an hour later. I at least need chicken or steak in my salad
Breakfast is usually just a protein shake

making sure nobody eats while being covered with visible dirt, etc. are attributed to DH?
No that's the girl child. The fart conversation is a tie between the two of them.

I'm a meat and potatoes girl. If I diet, I'd rather go Atkins- give up carbs vs meat. Yeah Atkins wants protein, not necessarily meat. I will keep eating that meat until my breath smells like nail polish remover (ketones). No, not really, still eating some carbs.

We try to keep it pretty low on the animal based protein side, maybe 1 egg and 3-4 oz. of meat or poultry or 5-6 oz. of seafood per day. We have beef 2-3 times a month and have recently tried bison which is really good. If I had to choose between beef and lamb/goat, we would have a population explosion in the bovine world 'cause sheep and goats are a whole lot tastier in my opinion. I could easily give up beef, but you would need to pry the last chunk of cheese out of my cold dead hands.

Some days I wish I could be one of those people who has half a bowl of special K at 6am, and is stuffed until noon. Then its baby carrots and hummus and I'm good until my dinner shake.
I eat salads and vegetables and all, but yes I do love to have meat in there too. I like breakfast meats. I do typically manage to keep it to one meat per breakfast. I like scramblers with vegetables and a bit of bacon or sausage. I like burgers and wings. I like steak, and pork. Some nights I just have eggs and toast for dinner, and that works.

I have to have protein. It definitely doesn't have to be meat. Peanut butter and other nuts are among my favorite proteins. But carbs do make me hungry before the next meal.
But protein doesn't have to be A LOT of protein. I told DH today that I am going to get an entire package of chicken breasts and do what I used to do before we married. I defrosted them all, cooked them all, cubed them all, and then divided them all to freeze them all in 4 ounce packages. Salad plus a fruit (he likes mandarin oranges, and I like pears) plus salad dressing was an awesome meal. We ate that every day back then. They lasted forever because of my seal-a-meal.
I'm like Ava . . . I want to lose some weight. I signed up for the walking part of the rec center ($10 for a year). I'm starting this weekend, and the healthier diet is right there with it.

When I was single, I would eat meat once a month. Now, I eat meat every day for at least two meals a day due to my meat-loving husband.
I don't love it or hate it. I like bacon though. I could eat that for every meal!!

Yeah... bacon... hubs cooked and ate one pound of bacon in one sitting a few weeks ago. Usually he'll cook the pound and use it for sandwiches and what not, but he started snacking on it until there were only three pieces left so he "might as well finish it". Skinny f*cker.

You may have my whole life-time allotment of cheese. I'm one of the few people I know of that can take or leave cheese, preferably leave.

Interesting. So I'm not alone in feeling like salad alone is "rabbit food" and you'll be hungry again in a couple of hours. Though you can substitute in other protien to give the impression of fullness. I don't eat meat, but I also don't eat salad for lunch. Unless it has meat or a bunch of cheese or something on it, I don't see how anyone could be full from that. Today for lunch I had corn tortillas with black beans, avocados, corn/jalapeno salsa, and spinach.

Eggs, tree nuts, and soy are not options for us due to life-threatening allergies.
The kids will eat fish, but really just haddock.
We will be experimenting with shellfish soon at the direction of YDS' allergist who says he is not allergic to it.
Otherwise, we eat meat at least 2 meals per day. Both kids are active teenage boys -- it is ALL about protein to them. Sure, we eat lots of fruits, veggies, and healthier carbs and dairy (yogurt, cheese, skim milk), but the meat is their primary focus. Our diet is heavily based on less fatty cuts of beef (sirloin, top loin, filets, ground sirloin) and BSCB, so I do try and keep it as healthy as I can.
But, when most non-meat proteins are prohibited, it is hard to feed growing boys without resorting to meat.

Being allergic to wheat is cool now. Have you not heard? Not eating meat and bread is the current fad.

We rarely buy meat to eat at home, eat it often when we eat out, but to us, a meal without meat is just that, a meal without meat. When we cook meat for home, it's 99% of the time a 8oz hangar steak from Whole Foods that we split in half to eat as a special occasion, maybe once a month. We were raised Asian culturally. In mine, the saying is that if you don't have rice at a meal, it's not a meal, and fish isn't fish unless it comes with it's bones.
