The sweat glands are one of the first harbingers of coming puberty. They get more active and the result is often body odor. Toms of Maine makes some very good natural products you could try. Just use a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. Kids are very active and need to perspire; plus, they don't need to be exposed to the chemicals in antiperspirants in childhood.

GD1 needs it. She's 8. GS2 needed it at 13.

I'd go with when they need it.
My son was pretty young. Also, things like "kids shampoo" no longer cut it for him and I had to bump him up to the adult stuff.
No matter what, there is often a time when teen boys just stink. They can take a shower, come out smelling good, and stink ten minutes later. It's the hormones, but it does get better after a while, and some are worse than others.

Kids do go through a smelly period, even if they are using it. But, yes, the time to use it is when the time comes to use it.

Huh?
mmhmm's right - the onset of puberty is likely why he has body odor. And kids are reaching puberty at a younger age now.

I'd rather him start wearing deodorant before he gets BO. I picked up some unscented "Toms of Maine" and asked ds to get in the habit of putting it on after his morning shower. I hope ds never becomes smelly. Good luck with that.
He is on his way to becoming a teenage boy.

I hope ds never becomes smelly. I have two sons, one never really did smell too bad and the other, well we call him Stinky.
