Oh yea, also, " Never sit in a car alone with a boy too long. He might try to kiss you. " Well, yeah, that is the idea, Mom . I didn't argue with her about that one, since it would have started WW III, but I didn't tell her if I was sitting in a car with a boy for too long, either. Yes, she was kind of conservative.

Oooh, you did not want to be asked, " Do I have to spank you ?! " at my house by either parent. If they told you to cut something out, you'd better cut it out. or that was the next question. Also, the last question before the big spanking....

Mom had a couple of funny ones. One time, she called me at the dorm to tell me not to eat any lettuce that wasn't well-washed ( now, how would I know that while living in the dorm ) because sometimes the people in the fields would pee on it because they had no sanitary facilities. ( I'm not making this up ). I asked her why she called me long distance to tell me that ? That made her mad. She also cautioned me to pin a $ 10 or $ 20 bill in my brassiere if I was going anywhere, since " you never know when you'll need it. " I didn't do that, either. She also had a thing about having to wear a slip or petticoat all of the time. I was usually pretty obedient, but when I wasn't, I caught hell for that one. She was actually a good mother, just with some very strong viewpoints. My aunt told e the same story! She said where did I think the puckers went potty? Well, actually, I never thought of it but wouldn't they be peeing in front of everyone if they led on the lettuce?

"Don't worry about what you major in in college, you won't use your degree anyway, you're just going to college to find a husband." LOL! I know an actuary who selected Rensellaer and got an Engineering degree. Her mother didn't brag about that, but about her daughter making the cheerleading squad. When they first got there her mother's eyes lit up when she realized it was mostly male. Potential husbands! My mother's older sister told me she went to Penn State and majored in Engineering just so she could land a guy - she was also a SAHM her whole life. Different generation, I guess. If I had a daughter (I only have a son) I would have lectured her about having a good enough education she would never have to be financially dependent on a guy...and she was in college to get that education, not an MRS degee...

Dad said: • "you're not going to college to get your MRS", • "when that dollar bill kisses you back, THEN you're a richer man than I am" to his wealthier friends with less kids , • oh and "own dirt" (he was an orphan but died owning an SF apartment bldg)
