Being cursed - you know how I am always bitching that I don't like MA and hated living there - well, turns out MA doesn't like me either - we are being audited by the state
On things that you want to say to other people - anytime I see older kids in a stroller, I REALLY want to tell their parents that walking doesn't hurt and they should let their kids try it.
So...my DS2 had a surgery last week and not suppose to be doing too much walking. We are hoping to go to a Gem and Mineral Show this weekend and if we do, we should really use a stroller for him. He is 4 and hasn't used one since he was 18 mo. Needless to say that if I saw a 4 yr old in a stroller, I would be rolling my eyes all the way back - interesting how life kicks me off my high horse sometimes.
Just something I was pondering this morning....

I've had to eat crow quite a few times as a parent. You're asking for it when you start a sentence with "When I become a parent I'll NEVER. . . "

Yeah, this will probably be the last day of posting here for me since I invited disaster with my judgment this morning.
DH and I were reading the news and one of the headlines was about people killed in the flooding of the latest storm. I made the offhand, snarky comment that most of the time people die in flooding during these storms, it's not the storm but their own dumb decisions like driving into the flooded wash.
As soon as those horrible words left my mouth I realized I'm bound to die in a flood when the storm gets here tomorrow.

my 6 year old would still be in a stroller if we would let her.
We used strollers for longer than usual because the kids would bolt in different directions.

I always bring a stroller for my almost 4 year old. He has bum legs and is very clumsy and gets tired easy. Carrying a 45 pound kid the one mile walk from one end of the zoo to the other because his knees hurt is not my idea of a good time.

No, we don't walk away. But when we're holding on to something precious, we run.

I saw the coolest stroller/wagon at the Zoo a couple of months ago. Cool enough that I looked at it went "I'd have stuck with that one for the kids!" But in retrospect, I had pretty lousy strollers. They were big, bulky and heavy. So once I realized both kids were walking well, I stopped using them. I think DH took a bit longer to come to the same conclusion. I dumped them on my neighbors, who were really happy about them at the time. Don't know if they still are though.

That's ok. I knew my children would never disrupt church. My DS never did anything like that, but my DD. She is always looking for an escape path. Sunday, she was playing nicely at my feet at the start of the sermon. A minute later I looked down and she was gone. I look up and she running down the center aisle. She had crawled under my pew and then ran to the aisle and started running! Sigh. Karma is a bitch.

I've had to eat crow quite a few times as a parent. You're asking for it when you start a sentence with "When I become a parent I'll NEVER. . . " What's worse is when you have two kids that are abnormal, and you get a third that behaves like a "typical" child. Oh, how foolish and deluded I was, even as a parent who has been through it a couple of times. I've also been taken off my high horse about finances a little bit. I prefer to call it "being humbled." I still judge though. I had one parent tell me that they could fulfill their volunteer commitments because of their own doing. It got a little heated for a moment. I was shocked I kept my mouth shut. I did almost vent about here, though.

I had a double stroller so we went from that to a wagon once DD couldn't fit in the back anymore. If I had known about these I would have invested in one:

I want one of those! That would be perfect for the state fair instead of the giant ass stroller MIL bought us. I HATE that stroller but if we hadn't taken it we would have had to hear about how she wasted $5 on it for the rest of our lives.
What's that product called?
I'm getting another stroller for Thing 2, MIL can just have a conniption. I am done with that damn Graco Metro.

I have a really nice umbrella stroller. It's several grades up from the little cheapies with the tiny wheels and the low handles, but still is small and lightweight. Even when he's not using it, it doubles as a walker/purse carrier/snack and water bottle holder for me. LOL

When my parents were looking for a church shortly after I was born, they chose the church where a toddler ran up the center isle and started climbing the pastor. He picked her up and just kept talking. Put her down a little later and she ran back to her parents/grandparents. Funny enough this was the church in town with the largest congregation, so not a tiny church thing.

My kids were evicted from the stroller once they could walk. For one, I needed it for the next kid and two - I am way too cheap to buy a second stroller.

That's why they make kiddie leashes! We tried that with Gwen at the State fair. It was like watching an alligator in a death roll. We drew a crowd.

We bought a backpack for our kids at REI. So much nicer to deal with in crowds. Plus then I can enjoy myself and not worry if we are constantly hitting folks on the ankles with our strollers because I'm not paying close enough attention to when people in front of me stop suddenly.
We never had a stroller system. We just have a dumb $20 Walmart stroller.

My 5 year old still likes the stroller. Makes me crazy, but not a hill I am dying on. As long as they are small I do not see no problem. If their fat is hanging from the sides of the stroller - I don't care if they are 1 y/old - walk!

We used strollers for longer than usual because the kids would bolt in different directions. You never heard of leashes? If you leash the kids to the front of the grocery cart, they can help pull it through the store. Really good exercise for them and they get too tired to cry and throw tantrums. Then, in the frozen section, you can pretend you are running the Iditerod. I cannot have been the only one...

Some of them have a little canopy that goes over it to give kids shade.

As soon as those horrible words left my mouth I realized I'm bound to die in a flood when the storm gets here tomorrow. In 2007 there was a big flood in SE Minnesota where I live. I was working the weekend shift back then and woke up on Sunday morning at 5am to find 2 feet of water in my basement (we live on a hill, but got 17 inches of rain and the power went out so the septic was backing up). Anyhow, needless to say, I called into work that morning. Good thing because the road 2 miles from my house, the road going down the hill, was completely washed out and there was a 40 foot drop. This would have been impossible to see in the dark driving down the hill. A man and his wife died when they drove off into it. He was giving his wife a ride to work because she was afraid to go herself in the storms. Later a college age kid delivering Sunday papers to the rural houses also went in. He survived and managed to climb out and call 911, but the lines were so overwhelmed with calls that it was several hours before the road was officially blocked off. Until then, there were just people out there standing in the rain with their cars. This is the road, but doesn't show it the best. It really dropped off!

I only have a single stroller. We have one with a bassinet and one a jogging one (although I've never jogged in my life).

I had to leash up DS#2 after losing him in a shopping mall. I made sure we both had pants with belt loops on and I outfitted a 8 foot piece of rope with two snap hooks, one on each end. It looked a little redneck homemade, but it didn't look as bad as the full harness model.
The important part was I never lost the little bugger again.
