Don't you like hearing the word "home"?

Despite me being on hold until September they are calling me about another girl. 16, going into grade 12, been in care 3 years with no behavioural issues but she insists on being in town rather than 30 mins out of town with really bad public transit. Her grandmother lives very close to me which should be good. I'm headed on vacation Monday so if this goes through it would be Labour Day weekend. Her worker refers to her as the Princess. I'll be asking more about that

I didn't realize the kids could dictate what area of the city they would live in. Good for them if it gives them more of a feeling of control over their lives. Good luck to you! You've dealt with tougher things than princesses.

They don't exactly get to dictate it, but CAS will try to accommodate them as much as possible. She has been able to do it up until now because she has been able to stay at her grandmother's but her grandmother is going out of town for a month so they must place her now. The grandmother would be approved for kin care but she is not willing to take it on. She has raised her kids and is past that stage is what I have been told. The Princess's worker said she is the best kid she has ever had in care, adding that she is a teen and will give the teen attitude but doesn't have "behaviours", so that is encouraging.

GW and I had a very nice weekend. I am going to see her tomorrow on my way to visit my parents and she will be back in town in a couple of weeks. This is a relief.

Glad you and GW had a good weekend.
Princess actually sounds promising, if you are ready.

shanendoah: dumb question: now that you've moved, if you were to open your home to another foster child (pre-adoption, or not), would you have to get re-certified? Would the state/adoption agency have to come and inspect your new home?

GRG a/k/a goldenrulegirl - Our foster license is still active. Yes, when we moved, our social worker had to come and do another home inspection in order to keep our license active. We did not have to do get re-certified, the new home just had to be inspected - water heater set to proper temp, medications safely locked away, working fire alarms, CO2 detectors, etc. It was a pretty quick and painless process.

Posting this here because I'm excited for friends. They have one son who is about a month younger than my son (so nearly 3-1/2), a foster daughter they received right around the time they were pregnant with their biological son (she's nearly 5), her little brother (nearly 2-1/2), and another foster daughter who is 17 months. On Friday, they adopted the sister/brother set - so exciting! And they should be adopting the youngest foster daughter next month. Their family and friends are so excited - and I seriously can't imagine the chaos and craziness their life is, but it is perfect for them. Anyway, just wanted to share.

Congrats to your friends. The best way to celebrate National Adoption day is by getting to finalize your adoption!
