www.today.com/news/oops-wannabe-helpful-mom-accidentally-steals-car-2D79540866I can let the key working for another car go - I can understand that part. (well kinda - LOL) but what is confusing is the girls get back - where was the mother to explain / show where she parked the cars? the mother moved the neighbor car - so why did the neighbor have to pay $190 to get it back from the impound? it was the neighbor car that was moved - so I would think it just moved to the other side of the street, or maybe around the corner? and the neighbor couldn't find it? why would they put fliers up looking for the owner, of the neighbor car they didn't have? they should have been looking for their own car, that wasn't moved? why or what happened to the car that the mom was supposed to have moved? no mention other than it was not there when the girls got back?

There are other vehicles that have maybe 5 different keys. I don't have the complete list so I won't go into it. Two are snowmobiles and ATVs.

www.today.com/news/oops-wannabe-helpful-mom-accidentally-steals-car-2D79540866I can let the key working for another car go - I can understand that part. (well kinda - LOL) but what is confusing is the girls get back - where was the mother to explain / show where she parked the cars? She was at her daughter's house, dogsitting.the mother moved the neighbor car - so why did the neighbor have to pay $190 to get it back from the impound? Because police standard procedure is to impound any car reported as stolen, as the article indicates.it was the neighbor car that was moved - so I would think it just moved to the other side of the street, or maybe around the corner? and the neighbor couldn't find it? From the details, we can deduce that the odd-day parking place is a good distance away from the even-day parking place. It's unusual, but so is alternate-day parking.why would they put fliers up looking for the owner, of the neighbor car they didn't have? they should have been looking for their own car, that wasn't moved? They wanted to find the owner of the car they'd stolen, to make sure it got back to her. They wanted to right a wrong.why or what happened to the car that the mom was supposed to have moved? no mention other than it was not there when the girls got back? The story simply states that Deanna (the owner) couldn't find it. This might have been because she was only looking in the place where the mother said she'd parked it (which we've deduced is a good distance away from where it had been), or because it had been towed by city police for violating the parking rules (since it hadn't been moved in a week). Grandma theft auto.

There was a guy at the Chiefs game this past fall that died for getting in the wrong car after the game His car was nearly the same spot just a few rows over. The owner of the car thought the man was trying to steal the car and killed him with his bare hands right there in the parking lot. My sister and I lived in an apartment several years ago and one day while we were watching TV a man unlocked the door to our apartment and walked right in! It was terrifying. Thankfully he was just as shocked to see us as we were to see him. Turns out he lived in the same apartment just a few buildings over. The apartment complex had been using the same set of 8 keys for all of the buildings Fortunately he was a nice guy who went & gave the complex hell for it and the next day we all got new keys. He came back to check on us to make sure no one else had walked in to our place. Just happy that it was a nice person and not some creep!!

I am so glad that it actually worked out for you and sis! this situation could have been far worse! when I move into a new apartment I already bring my door knob lock and dead bolt with me. I install on move in day (well within the first week or two) and I take it out when I move out.

Why not just spend a fews bucks and get the next place you move into re-keyed?

You should have said that you have the original doorknobs & locks stored away - you didn't.
You implied that you take the doorknobs/locks off and take them with you.
But like I said before, why not just get a new place re-keyed. It's a lot easier than removing and replacing hardware.

I'd rather replace hardware than get a lock re-keyed, it takes 10 minutes and you don't have to wait on someone to do it for you.

Finally noticed a scrunchie around the rear view post. Other than that the car was empty and spotless like mine.

Plus most apartments I have lived in will charge MORE that the cost of a purchase of a new dead bolt with matching door lock. also these apartments I have lived in don't change the locks. so every tenant that has lived in these apartments will have a key.

I can understand that truthbound!! funny thing that happened to me was when I would join my coworkers on a business trip and we all had the same make and model and color rental parked next to each other or in the same parking lot. I tell ya - those keyless entry remotes came in real handy!! same thing happens when people come to the campus where I work and go to the training canter. all these same make/model/color rentals.

Probably a good few would have shot someone in their car without asking questions. Can't you keep your murder loving crap in check just once?

That's not surprising at all- depending on who made the door handles there are only like 5 different keys
We have close to 200 vehicles with latches and such that are used in the RV industry and I can get in all of them with one key ring that I think has at best 15 keys on it.

I was at a campground and the neighbor had a Winnebago Sightseer like mine. He locked his keys in his motorhome. We were 100 miles from anywhere going to cost him a fortune so he asked me if he could just try my key to unlock his door. Wouldn't you know it worked! Believe me he was thrilled to death, they brought us dinner over that night. i guess that was a good thing the key worked? Surprising to me!

This is surprising to me because I think there are places where motor homes park for long term parking? then if there are places like that - then people can use there key to get into other peoples motor home?
